  1. This team isn’t desperate for base competence. They’ve already won 3 games with middling talent, and lost 2 they probably should have won. They can compete. What they need is high end talent. Doesn't necessarily have to be across the board either, just think how much difference another receiver who can actually catch the ball and a competent pass blocker at, say C, would have made this season.
  2. He actually used more of them last year. So, I wouldn't necessarily say they won't use them all. I could see more trade downs in this draft to stockpile even more picks. I could be wrong, but I felt like the Bears improved their draft position a bit already after the games this past weekend. I honestly don't see many more wins for the Bears going forward. The only winnable games are Atlanta and Detroit twice and I don't really think they will win any of them. A top 5 is very realistic. In a top 5 position, as much as I hate the thought - going defense first - the Bears are looking at Anderson (Alabama), Carter (Georgia) or Murphy (Clemson) they're all elite, potentially special impactful players and that's OK. Then go WR, OL next along with adding via free agency. The crappy part is we have to endure the tank, while, hopefully, Fields continues to shine.
  3. Id' say Deron Payne >>> Roquan Smith perhaps, that'll be one place the money will be spent.
  4. Roquan presence either way is not going to make a difference this Sunday.
  5. I don't think he's proven that he's not a dependable receiver. He's had 20 targets this year in 8 games. Also, this is a Shanahan offensive scheme. This isn't a very TE friendly scheme, unless you have an elite talent at the position like Kittle. The Niners, Rams, Packers, Jets, post Gonzalez Falcons, old school Broncos, all run/ran the scheme and only one with big TE years are the Niners who happen to have a top 2 TE in the league. If you are spending any real money on a TE, you are playing that TE. Not OVER Kmet, but WITH Kmet. This isn't a 2 TE friendly scheme at all. Hell, the Bears have 5 TEs on the roster, the worst WR talent in the league, and STILL aren't throwing to the TEs very much. Get receivers. The player Fields is, is the kind that wants to throw the ball down the field and make big plays. TEs don't make big plays unless they are named Kittle or Kelce. Even the one in question (Gesicki) is only averaging 11.2 per catch, which is great for a TE. But pales in comparison to a non-possession WR. The Bears could live with improving the WR room and going with Kmet along with a draft choice. I'm thinking TE is way down on the list of 2023 priorities in comparison to WR, OL and DL.
  6. Think you mean Quentin Johnston, depending on how FA goes they may be looking at OL or DL with the first round and WR with the second round. One of Smith-Njigba, Addison from USC or, Boutte from LSU will probably still be on the board in the second.
  7. If Fields has truly turned a corner, it's not unreasonable to expect good performances and big numbers. Believe he'll still face some pressure because the Bears OL is terrible at pass blocking however, it's not going to be of the variety he faced vs. Washington, New England and Dallas. Not the constant on him with the snap of the ball, he'll get some time.
  8. Sign the best OL to hit FA (hopefully the Colts are dumb enough to let Nelson go) Sign Mike Gesicki Use the rest of your cap space on defense Draft a WR with your 1st, add another WR and an OL on day 2 Profit Gesicki and one OL isn't enough for the O in FA. Gesicki is interesting. But I'd see him more as complementary to the O if they wanna get really freaky on O. Really the only question is if it's gonna be worth parting with a high value pick in order to get the best WR you can to support Fields. I lean towards no, and just use FA and draft, but not outrihht eliminating the idea. Believe Dallas TE Schultz is also a 2023 UFA, might be a better addition.
  9. There's a chance one of them will emerge, if so, that leaves the draft to address WR, there's a chance Smith-Njigba' going to fall out of the first round. How great could it be if the Bears are able to go OL with the first round and grab Smith-Njigba with a second? I really don't want to see them only rely on the draft to give Fields weapons. They are basically gonna have to go sign 4 starters at absolute minimum, and that's if they're all really big deals. More likely theyre gonna be signing 6 starter type money deals. If at least 3 of them (WR, C, T) aren't offense Poles will have failed Fields and the O. If he does that he can go splurge on a couple DL too and then do whatever he wants in draft. I'd like to think Poles won't rely solely on the draft, he's got the resources to attack building around Fields with FA and the draft. Puts him in possibly, the best position of any team in the 2023 offseason, don't think there's another team that comes close to resources the Bears will have at their hand. It's pretty bizarre how the Bears went from one extreme, 2022 offseason with very little resources to 2023 most resources in the NFL.
  10. There's a chance one of them will emerge, if so, that leaves the draft to address WR, there's a chance Smith-Njigba' going to fall out of the first round. How great could it be if the Bears are able to go OL with the first round and grab Smith-Njigba with a second?
  11. Unfortunately due to the latter issue, QB scramble is still like a top 5 play in this offense. At the very least it beginning to appear that a dependable WR along with competent pass blocking is what's necessary not a QB. Think we need to see a few more good performances but, it's starting to lean towards the surrounding cast being the problem.
  12. Back-to-back good games for the first time ever? This is how starts one good performance, followed by another and another and on.
  13. All in all, not too bad, Fields didn't get hurt, he played well, they rolled up points and yards vs. a very good defense. Fields has played fairly well in consecutive games against two of the better defenses in the NFL. There's no excuse for Poles not to inject a large amount of offensive talent in the upcoming offseason. He's got all tools at his disposal, draft capital and money; he better not overspend on defense.
  14. Uhmm, how was a hold of Brisker not called?
  15. We've you have WR's who, for the life of them, are unable to catch a 50/50 ball what can you do?
  16. The 2023 WR Free Agent class doesn't look all that strong, WR is either going to be addressed with the draft, trade or most likely both. I like the Ridley idea, could be something Poles may get heat for that'll turn out well. Yeah, it really depends on how he approaches this offseason. He probably planned on making incremental improvements next year to be ready to make big splashes in 2024. But with 135Mil or whatever, he can't really build thru the draft for multiple years like he wants. We only have 1 offseason of extremely conservative moves and Ridley would definitely be a risky move based on his suspension and potential rustiness. Wasn't the past off season one of extremely conservative moves? At the very least, both lines must be addressed in a big way this next offseason. Appears that's possible with the draft and FA.
  17. The name that keeps going thru my head is Calvin Ridley. Obviously more of an offseason move, but I wonder A) what it would take and B) if Poles would even make that dice roll. Ridley is probably the best way to get a really good WR without giving up a super high pick. There's literally 0 in free agency that are as productive as he was a couple years ago. He's due 9Mil for his 5th year option. Falcons were close to dealing him to Philly before his suspension was announced, so he'll be going somewhere. I'd imagine he'd be treated similarly to like a Robert Woods, who coming off a missed year w/ an ACL tear went for like a 5th and 6th or something. I wouldn't expect Ridley would cost much more than that. He's going to be almost 2 years removed by his next game. And he's also going to be 28 so not a spring chicken (he was almost Velus age when drafted). For the Bears, he'd provide a competent WR. He also probably wouldn't cost an immediate contract extension, which is an issue with Mooney likely getting an extension this offseason. He has the incentive to let his play on the field earn his next contract in line with the elite WRs. The Bears would be able to franchise tag him in 2024 and then let him walk at 30, with Mooney's big numbers starting to kick in and hopefully a draft pick performing well. But I wonder if Poles would add a guy that was suspended for a year for gambling. Seems to be a big image guy and IDK if he'd want Ridley on an otherwise pretty young roster. But man, I think the prospect cost and the financial obligation would make him a spectacular value if you can get him on the field. The 2023 WR Free Agent class doesn't look all that strong, WR is either going to be addressed with the draft, trade or most likely both. I like the Ridley idea, could be something Poles may get heat for that'll turn out well.
  18. I like the trade as well, load up on the draft picks, a 4th isn't bad, maybe a tad low, was thinking a 3rd nevertheless, get as much draft capital as possible. With draft capital and a likely top 5 pick I could see Poles trading down to address OL, WR, DE and possibly TE with multiple high picks. Beyond a doubt there's going to be a massive influx of offense talent next offseason.
  19. You mean like Fields was protected when he got speared in the back and sandwiched by the Patriots?
  20. As a side not I did kind of enjoy Pennell' blind side block of the Patriots' C, without question the [expletive] tried to hurt Fields on the Herbert TD. Plus, Mac Jones kicking Brisker in balls, that wasn't an "accident" or "unfortunate". It's nice to see dirty, cheap shot artists get a little taste of their own medicine once in a while.
  21. Certainly, appears this coaching is a complete 180 from the previous in that they're capable of making adjustments, putting players in a position to succeed. Can't help but think what's possible with a fairly large influx of talent in 2023.
  22. Do not care about the score just would like to see consecutive good games from Fields. Last night adjustments were made to the scheme in an effort to put Fields in a position to succeed. Gives hope for what may come when Fields is surrounded by better offensive talent in 2023.
  23. How about this Patriots - Jones and Zappe both suck. Wonder if, come the 2023 Draft, they'll be QB shopping?
  24. Well horsefeathers me dead as the Australians would say, who the hell saw that coming? I know the Bears are bad, and the spread along with the thought this was going to be a blowout was a reflection of this terrible Bears team. After watching, it's not like this Patriots team is good in fact, they're not much better than the Bears.
  25. Fields had another big run there if he did not get tripped up.
