  1. Why are you talking about lobs and high-points? I didn't say horsefeathers about lobbing or throwing the ball high. Just releasing the ball high. Think sidearm pitcher vs. an over the top delivery. You can throw fastballs for every arm angle. Just like you can throw a football accurately and with velocity from any arm angle. He went with the 3/4 delivery when it should have been over the top. my point about not lobbing or high-pointing the throw is about the play design, I didn't say you were making that argument. He's got one throw he can make to Kmet safely, and he likely threw it from an arm slot that felt the most comfortable to him. He didnt side arm it as you suggest in your baseball analogy, the release point is at the top of his helmet - farther up then 3/4. But theres also the issue of the play call. Getsy has to understand the players he has. He has to understand that his o-lineman are terrible pass blockers up the middle and either wiff or become statues far too often. He also has to understand that Justin Fields inst Peyton Manning and isnt going to stand as tall as he possibly can in the pocket while throwing directly over the top of 6'-5" guys. Why call a play that requires JF to do something he just doesn't seem to be geared up or built to do? You to assume, on every passing attempt, if not outright sacked, the DL is going to get penetration, given this you've got to design a play that'll afford Fields some passing lanes.
  2. Eh. It's fine. Mooney catches the ball cleanly it's a TD. It didn't require him to break any tackles to score. No reason to limit yourself to inside the end zone when you just have to break the plane. The further in the endzone you are, the smaller it gets. it was forth down, and they dont completely limit themselves since they still had Monty out of the backfield. Fields never would have had the time to get to Monty, but that's your pitch/catch/and run to the end zone route, not your designed first read You can't blame Fields for this one, it's all Mooney, he had two hands on the ball and still couldn't catch it cleanly, should have been a TD period.
  3. His free agency was indicative of he wanting to wait a year mostly. Maybe grade him on intent of Ogunjobi, but since it actually didn't go through I'll give him a break. Again tankity tank. Not sure what the issue with the draft is. Lacking a scenario like spending a top 20 pick on a guard or something... It was fine. Grade the outcome in 2 years, but the design/approach was fine from a rebuilding perspective. (I'm on the side that they shouldn't have forced any position in the draft for Fields-that's what FA was for, but I think in this context we're trying to establish general team building philosophy, not "how he supported Fields). What was your issue with the draft? DB-DB-KR-value OL is a disastrous draft from a long-term standpoint. I don't want value OL, I want OL in the top two rounds. I don't want a gadget player when we don't have WR1-3 in place. And I definitely don't want our first two picks to be defense. Even your first draft, you're establishing which positions you think are high-priority and which ones you can try to get cheap with. I hate his choices. I to very much disliked the defense, defense nonsense in this year's draft, next year he's got no excuse to keep from trying to load up on offense, be it in the draft or FA. Meaning I'm willing to give him another shot in 2023. However, if that horsefeathers goes DL with a quite probable top 5 pick without first addressing C and the OL in FA - I'm done with him.
  4. Occasionally, he has plays without pressure. Not as often as he should, but sometimes. And on those plays, he frequently looks bad. Pretty sure the EPA/play stats disagree with your assessment of how he does when he has time, but maybe I'm analyzing the data wrong from what I've seen. Cannot recall the post however, was there not some statistics of his rating being over 100.0 when given a clean pocket or no pressure? How can that be frequently bad?
  5. Maybe seeing Montgomery takes some time, which, nearly half the time, Fields doesn't have, don't how you can properly evaluate a QB under those conditions. Pressure is a QB's kryptonite no matter who that happens to be, Rodgers, Mahomes et. al. are terrible, fail to see open receivers with lineman constantly in their faces.
  6. how Without question that one was on him, bad throw on what should have been a layup.
  7. At the very least they could end the Smith-Marsette and Pettis experiments and give those snaps to Jones Jr. and Harry. Also, go more play-action on first down, some more of the quick passes and screens they did yesterday, more rollouts etc. Whether they want to admit it or not, the starting point/assumption is the line cannot pass block, they'll be pressure on every passing attempt so, if possible, find something that Fields and, mainly, the receivers can execute. Sounds near impossible, there's got to be something that can be exploited, I think.
  8. Once again, it's impossible to do anything via the pass when half of your OL is a turn style.
  9. Blaming Fields or, Getsy for that matter, most especially on the last attempt and for last night is incorrect. Twice Fields put the ball on the receiver' hands one of them should have been caught, granted, there was a blatant PI on the Pettis attempt nevertheless, it should have caught. What's Fields supposed to do? Catch the ball for the receivers as well? That goof-ball Smith-Marsette dropped an eminently catchable ball as well, it's not about these WR's getting open, it's about their inability to catch the horsefeathering ball. Guess maybe try Harry and Jones Jr in place of Pettis and Smith-Marsette, what's the worse they can do? Drop 10 out 10 catchable passes? That's pretty much what they're getting from Pettis and Smith-Marsette. I also believe Fields is nearing his breaking point with these stone-handed clowns, said something to the extent of he's really getting tired of hearing we're so close, its coming.
  10. Forgot to mention Reiff and Schofield too. Pringle, etc. St. Brown, Pettis, etc Letting Daniels go was horsefeathering stupid. You can't tell me he wouldn't be a better C than Mustipher. Daniels was drafted with the idea of possibly becoming a C I agree, Mustipher at C is the primary reason the line gets blown up so often in pass protection, there's no way Daniels would have been worse.
  11. Haters is tough. Just the realists. Can't scotch tape an NFL roster. True enough but, once again, given the terrible lack roster management by Pace and the lack of resources just what could Poles have done? I'm not defending Poles but, people are talking as if he had a plethora of resources and moves available, he did not. Now, next season, a little bit different picture.
  12. All the videos clearly illustrate the need for competency at center, if I'm able to notice, it must jump off the film to Poles, Eberflus, Getsy and the OL line coach. I'd say it's a far greater need than DT, is it possible to address in FA? If so, then it'll be fine if the Bears go DT with their top pick, just do not want to see the meathead defense, defense and, on offense throw something at the wall hoping it'll stick approach.
  13. Appears to me the guard and tackle are very aware Mustipher is overmatched and in trying to aid or compensate for him miss their assignments. Also, just WTF is Mustipher doing? Playing tag? Maybe some who knows line play can explain.
  14. Here's another one. Oh man this is beautiful watching Fields go through his progressions and finding the open guy. Amazing what the man can do with just a little bit of protection. With my Post Mitch Traumatic Stress Disorder (PMTSD) it's hard for me to get my hopes up, are we now seeing some things from Justin that we never saw from Mitch? I seem to recall flashes from Mitch as well but, maybe those flashes were of the not missing a wide-open deep throw type.
  15. I hate, hate, hate going for 2 that early in the game because there are so many permutations where it ends up costing you in the end, just like it did yesterday. They kick the extra point and everything else goes as it did, the Vikings only go for 1 and are up 28-23 and a TD in the last 2 minutes wins the game instead of tying it or putting you in a position where you have to go for 2 to win. Statistically it may well be the right call but I just don't like it in that spot at all. I know, when you cut the lead to 5 you're supposed to go for 2, but I honestly think you have to figure more points will be scored when you're at the start of the 3rd quarter against a team that already has 3 TD drives against you. There's having faith in your defense, then there's being realistic. And realistically, there were going to be more points, whether it was 3 or 7, you get the point while you can and chase the 2 only if you absolutely have to at the end. That being said, I don't hate any move where the ultraconservative Eberflus is aggressive. The onsides kick, the 2pt try, F it, this is a bad team in a no-lose situation. Winning is always good, but losing isn't a huge deal since this isn't a playoff team. Damn straight, especially late in the season when facing those teams that are in playoff contention in need of win. If the Bears aren't making the playoffs, next best thing is playing fast and loose, having fun, forcing the other teams to execute or go home.
  16. Going for two, on-side kick, trying repeated shots down the field maybe, finally, the Bears have decided to be balls to walls aggressive. Why not try to make the opponent execute on defense by putting pressure on them? It's sure a horsefeathers quite a bit more fun to watch and, I'm guessing, more fun to play in such a manner.
  17. Heard something on the score about Gordon coming very to a pick six on the Vikings winning TD drive? Anyone watching is that correct? Given all of his, thus far, terrible play that would have been awesome. Also, why does Pettis continue to be targeted? It's probably because there's no one else however, how many catchable balls does this clown have to drop before he convinces the Bears he's useless? Smith-Marsette certain deserves to cut, Pettis should follow him out the door.
  18. It appears Vegas agrees, as the #24 Illini are 4 point home dogs to unranked Minnesota next week (and I agree with this assessment, I think Minnesota is the one legit team in the BTW this season). I'll be curious to see if that changes if DeVito is cleared to play. The backup is hot garbage. I believe it'll change, without a doubt, had DeVito not been hurt, the Illini would have beaten Iowa by 10+ points.
  19. One would think, at the very least, Mustipher' going to the bench. Along with some sort of quick passing game, can't assume the line', regardless of its configuration, is capable of any sustained pass blocking. If they don't attempt some sort of adjustments, I don't have much hope for this coaching staff, Getsy in particular. They can't continue along the current path on offense and have the nerve to call themselves a professional football team.
  20. To me the score, or what the Vikings do on offense, etc. is immaterial, I'm interested in what offensive adjustments are going to made or, at least, attempted. Do not know if Harry is a go, if he is, maybe, the Bears will try to set up Jones on some pick plays with Harry as the picker. They're probably going to be facing quite a bit of 8-man boxes so, if they get the ball quick to Jones or Mooney, on a pick or a screen, that might have big play potential. At this point they've got to assume Mustipher cannot pass block and his assignment is going to be free within 2 or so seconds therefore, no drop backs or any other long developing pass plays.
  21. This seems shocking to me. Wisconsin is bad, and they had a downish season last year (though they recovered really nicely from a slow start) but I didn’t think he was particularly close to the hot seat just yet. The natives were definitely restless but I thought he would get the season before any moves were made. I’m hearing some crazy buyout numbers, who knows what’s true on that front. Heard Chryst is very much anti-NIL, if you want to recruit and play with the big boys you must play the NIL game.
  22. If you're Getsy and Fields you've got to start with the premise of your OL is not going to allow time for any kind of drop backs or "long" developing passing plays. Given this, what can you do? Quick screens, picks plays? Getsy also has to come up with something more than running the ball up the middle in the red zone. The constant deferring to a run in the red zone is not going work most especially for a team that supposedly wants to win as many game as possible. Teams don't win with FG's as their primary way of scoring. Guess we'll see if Getsy is this so called offensive genius.
  23. Given the manner in which things were proceeding the Bears probably would have gone 3 and out. Still, it certainly did look as if they might have ended up around midfield had that horsefeathering numbs nuts fielded the punt. I'm certain he'll back on IR this week, totally useless.
  24. Do they really need certain personnel to run a pick play? competent personnel? How much competency does one need in order to stand in someone's way in order to let another person run by?
