I hope he's using it as motivation to get better instead of blowing it off as racism. There is a lot of racism in there, but he also needs to work on mechanical and strategic components of the position to get him to where he wants to be. I know this, believe Fields does as well.

This constant effort by the media to discredit Fields is getting out of hand, it's got to be in part, if not entirely, race related. Asking Stroud and Smith-Njigba, if Fields is just a running back, WTF? Did any potential draftees get asked these sorts of questions about Josh Allen after his first season? I'm certain Fields is letting it roll off his back, to a certain extent he has to but, I have to imagine he's infuriated with this he's just a running back BS. That horsefeathering Poles better make some moves to give Fields a chance.

I've this hopefully, irrational, fear that despite the resources Poles is going to find a way to horsefeathers this up. He'll horsefeathers it up and the McCaskey' will be unable to recognize that Poles blew it. Moreover, they'll give him a few more seasons to screw things up. If the Bears don't win 7-9 games next season, including at least a spilt with GB along with marked improvement in all phases Poles should be fired.

And it's especially crazy, because a week ago they were calling EVERYTHING in the Illinois-Iowa game Or the earlier game vs. Northwestern, Wildcats shot an absurd number of free throws in that game, 40 to the Illini' 10. I'm not saying the Illini didn't commit any fouls but come on, that one-sided, against a team playing a fairly physical brand of defensive basketball?

Last season Big Ten officiating basically allowed a pounding of Kofi and by extension the whole of the Illini, it's no coincidence they were the walking wounded come tournament time. This year, like Kofi, the officiating is permitting some of the same treatment of Edey and probably the rest of the Boilermakers. What I do not understand is why the officiating swallows their whistles for these big guys?

Wow... what a complete garbage take. They literally have the 21st most difficult schedule. They are the KenPom #1 rated offense in the country and the #20 rated defense. They have wins against #12 Gonzaga and #14 Marquette. Edey is consistent with his low post game. He is almost automatic if he's not double teamed. I wouldn't dare say he's an NBA talent, but he's a dominant NCAA baller. He's a matchup nightmare for 95% of college teams. The other 5% are only able to limit the damage. If you're judging Smith off of just the IU game, your lazy. If you're judging him on his full resume, you're just flat out wrong. He's been great all year long and had a poor game. No need to blow things out of proportion here. Give IU and Woodson a lot of credit. They had a great game plan and executed it well. That in no way discredits Purdue and their accomplishments. They did not play their best game in a hostile Assembly Hall. These things happen in college basketball. I think they’re incredibly mediocre and very beatable, but in a year where there’s no good teams and everyone is on the spectrum of suck maybe they sneak through but I am not a fan of what I saw yesterday (granted haven’t watched them much). Edey appears to be way too slow for the NBA, even for a big, can he shoot the three? Appears to have good form on FT's but, don't think I've ever seen him shot a three. Slowness is Dickinson' problem as well, but he can hit a three and appears to have better post-up game. A good portion of Edey success is him being so much taller than everyone.

Guess there's now speculation the Commanders may not franchise Payne, regardless of his status. I wonder if Poles is going to target him at all, as many here have written and, I agree, Poles is going not only looking for quality but, value as well. May not sit well with the fans however, if he's able to identify, for example, DL's who are about to break out. It'll not only pay dividends on the field but, allow for financial flexibility should the Bears get to the point where they're one big money player away from being Super Bowl contenders.

Saw a piece written in a negative Bears light about soon to be FA's being tagged by their prospective franchises. Payne is most likely one of those players who'll be tagged, no matter what that dumbass wrote, Payne wasn't the end all be all for the Bears. Given the Bears needs it still should not be too difficult to improve their pass rush via free agency. Not all of the young players are going to be tagged and any one of them will be vast improvement over what the Bears had last season. I'd like to see if Poles and company will be able to identify free agents who are about to bust out and become high impact players.

On Hoge and Jahns an "expert" guest said he is smaller than Kyler (acknowledged Kyler is heavier/built thicker) Kyler's combine numbers we 5' 10"/207 Shorter than Kyler? Yikes...so Young would be the shortest QB in the NFL. I think you can be successful as a sub-6 foot QB and guys like Kyler, Russ Wilson and Brees have proven that, but at some point height becomes an issue. This is a lot of the reason why I don't get some in the media insistence that Young is a better prospect than Fields. Really? Because physically Fields >>> Young and it's not even that close, so, I guess the base of their argument is Young is better at the mental portion of the game. Which is questionable given Young has never played a down in the NFL.

I think it's more favorable that Stroud declared. While I don't think it changes much, I do see the potential of 3 QB's going with the first 3 picks, leaving Anderson sitting there at #4. While I don't know enough about any of these QB's to know that any of them are top of the draft worthy, there are a lot of teams interested in a QB this offseason. Some can afford to move draft capital more easily than spending on their limited cap space for Jimmy G. or Carr. We only really need Houston to want to move up to the first pick and Indy to want to move to the second pick. Raiders or Atlanta could want to move up to 3rd after they miss out on the first two QB's. A guy can dream. Probably going to end up much ado about nothing, the Bears will end up keeping the #1 pick taking Will Anderson. Wouldn't be too bad ending up with the best player in the draft.

There's 0 chance I'm buying that the Colts love Will Levis today enough to be willing to know they are ready to move up for #1 him. The season just ended last week. They didn't even know they would have a chance to trade to #1 until middle of Sunday afternoon. And they haven't even legally spoken to Levis yet. It's possible they are in love with the size and the arm strength, but there's no way they can decide to make a franchise altering trade for him a week after the season based on his college tape. Nor can they be ready to make that decision before they even interview or workout the guy. He could be a bumbling idiot in interviews and put up a single digit Wonderlic. It's way too early for anyone to be enamored with anyone. It is early you're probably correct, just something I read, nevertheless, I do believe the Raiders will try to deal with Bears and Cardinals. With the Cardinals being the more realistic possibility, if this happens, that sets up nicely for the Bears dealing with the Colts.

Read the Colts are enamored with Will Levis given this think they'd go something like Pittman, 2023 1st, 2023 2nd, 2024 1st to the Bears for the number 1 pick? Pittman fits the Poles model for a WR and, I believe there's a good chance a QB needy team is going to try and make deal for Cardinals' pick at 3. Leaving Poles with the opportunity to draft Will Anderson at 4 of course, this falls through if Stroud decides to stay at OSU. Was thinking if Stroud declares some permutation of Levis, Young and Stroud goes 1-3, leaving Anderson or Carter for the Bears.

Saw today, according to PFF, the Bears had the 14th rated OL in the NFL?! Didn't see the break downs but, a large part of that rating must have been run blocking. No way does Justin get sacked as often with even an average pass blocking line granted, some of the sacks were on him holding on to the ball too long. However, on obvious passing downs how often was Justin given time? In those cases, the rush was on him almost with the snap of the ball.

Media in general, and particularly in sports media, nuanced reporting is difficult to do well. It's a bottom line type of reasoning that doesn't take into account context. Having said that, he really needs to improve his short and midrange passing accuracy if he has any chance at success. Maybe that is a function of all the stuff you mentioned and he will show he can do it. But he has to get better. Without question he needs to improve on those aspects of the passing game, I'm certain if you asked him that's the first thing he'd mention.

I wonder if we'd hear more in the media about the lack of support around Justin Fields if he wasn't black. Preseason - Poles gave Justin Fields no help, being set up for failure, season is played, despite an incompetent offensive line, he improves on his numbers from last season, post season - he's terrible, not the answer, Bears should trade him. Is it because, out of necessity and, to keep him from sustaining a career ending injury, Fields used his running ability? I think Getsy knows that type of offense is not sustainable, and it'll go away once the Bears have an OL capable of pass blocking for more than a nano-second. Why isn't this ever mentioned?

I'd really like to see him play one more season, I want the Bears to beat the Packers with Rodgers still at helm. My dream scenario - fixed up Bears pound them on national TV with the biggest Packer lover having a permanent Rodgers boner Collingsworth announcing. Not only do the Bears pound them but, Justin Fields lights them via the passing game and someone on the revamped Bears D-line Payne, Will Anderson, Jalen Carter, etc. ends Rodgers' season. Won't remove 30+ years of frustration but, it'll come close, if only not having to hear Collingsworth do a Rodgers game again. When it comes to Rodgers, I'm definitely of the kick him when he's down, rub salt in his wound's ilk, he's very much earned it.

TCU is only rushing 3 most of the time but, yeah, I honestly believe there's more than one division 1 team with better OL's than this current Bears' line.

No built-in excuses this time Poles, no cap limitations, no lack of draft capital, nothing, I do not believe it unreasonable to expect a dramatically improved roster and team next season. Absolutely no reason at all they shouldn't win at least 8 games next season, it's not a pipe dream or unrealistic. If Poles can't put together a competent NFL team next season, he should be fired, plain and simple. I'd like to think the McCasky' are of the same mindset, well, they should be but, they're probably not. With that said, it appears to me one can address the OL, DL and perhaps, RB in FA then, DL/E and WR on day 1 of the draft. Ideally, I'd like to see Poles swing a deal to trade down and still be in a position to draft Will Anderson. Guessing that would be with a QB needy team, would have been perfect if Indianapolis was at #3. Don't see the Cardinals being a team in need of a QB, I believe they'll draft Anderson.

He had exactly two games where he exceeded 200 yards passing. He had some times where he looked good, but he had plenty of times where he looked slow to process and seems to have the yips on short passes. Nobody's seriously going to consider ditching him, but I think some doubt is reasonable Some doubt is reasonable, I agree, I've more doubt in Poles. Putting together a better roster for next season shouldn't be that difficult, Poles should be able to accomplish that, I'm not certain he's capable.

Justin Fields showed drastic improvement as a passer this season, done with arguably the worst supporting cast in football. People who are writing him off as just a running QB are overlooking this point. Did he light up the scoreboard with 350+ yards passing and multiple TD's? No. I wonder if that could be possible with this supporting cast? Sure, he's missed some reads but, when you've got a turn style at center and WR's with hands of stone (Brown, Pettis, Jones Jr.) what can reasonably be expected? I'm willing to give him another season provided, of course, Poles assembles an NFL caliber roster around him. This talk of drafting Young or Stroud maybe even Levis doesn't make sense.
