  1. If it is it's a turd sandwich with Marinara and provolone cheese.
  2. Babe Ruth used to run really fast around the bases in those old newsreels :D
  3. Michael Barrett = Jody Davis I've never been one to blame one player for a loss but if we have to blame someone how about the guy that gave up a HR to the opposing pitcher. I didn't see the game, was it really an 0-2 count?
  4. Or perhaps they are planning on having Rusch go 5 then bringing in Williams for 3. Teams do that sort of thing early in the season a lot more than they would later on.
  5. Cates was not acquired in any trade. He was simply signed as a minor-league free agent. Is there a reason why they'd let Frese go and sign Cates? They seem like more or less the same guy. The grass is greener on the other side? So...you're saying we shouldn't count on Cates taking up a roster spot for very long if you're comparing him to Frese. Cates was a fan favorite here at Delmarva. He's scrappy and he hustles. He likens himself to Eckstein. I could see him having a long minor league career though I'd guess he'd be more valuable to an organization that values winning minor league games over developing talent.
  6. If Wood was healthy, why wouldn't the Yankees want him in their rotation? If Wood was healthy and effective, why would the Cubs trade him? Why would Wood accept a trade to a team that wanted to make him a reliever?
  7. My suggestions: Slappy McRagarm Franco American which combines his French name and his noodle arm. Robes is so much shorter and to the point though. On the subject of Obscure French Revolution figures I'll take Necker. Hats off to anyone that's not a teacher that can identify him w/o googling him.

  9. I assume that the players in bold are going to be the starters. The fifth starter in the rotation is probably Cherry, but I'm not sure about that one. That leaves the starting pitching weaker than in recent years, but the bullpen should be strong with some older, experienced arms in there. I'm really surprised that Rojas is going to be there at SS. How did Gary Cates make this roster? And when did we get him? Lewis seems to have fallen out of favor pretty quickly. Cates must have come from the O's as either part of the Patterson trade or as compensation for that reliever that retired soon after being traded in the Sosa deal. Cates has spent parts of the last 4 seasons at Low A Delmarva due to some injuries. Thus he's too old for Daytona but not experienced enough for AAA where he could supplant Augie as the utility Inf roster filler guy. It was either that or release him which would be no great loss but the Cubs probably like his versatility. Interesting note: Cates beat out Brian Roberts at 2nd base for the Delamrva 10 year anniversay team (which included Michael Barrett and Havier Vasquez).
  10. Is Aaardsma still on the 40 man roster? I thought they took him off after the season ended.
  11. Perhaps this means that Hairston will be moved next. With Pagan making the team they don't need Hairston as a backup CF, with Perez and Bynum on the team they don't need him as a back up 2nd baseman. Bynum is more versatile and therefore a better bench option than Hairston. Could Hairston net a low level but decent prospect?
  12. I can, I suppose, accept Perez starting at SS for an ineffective Cedeno. Someone please tell me that Perez won't bat 2nd.
  13. I'm wondering how much protection Bonds will get from the MLBPA on this one. If remember correctly I think that Bonds has opted out of a lot of MLBPA agreements to promote his own self-interests; independent merchandising deals and so forth. well, my guess is they will defend him to the hilt because if they don't, it will erode some of their power and it could open the door for other players to be disciplined or suspended or whatever. But what can the players assoc. really do? This issue can't help but divide union members some of whom will support Bonds on principle while others will gladly let him burn. Here's the best case scenario for everyone involved: Bonds gets banned for 5 years with a chance to be reinstated. This makes Selig look like a responsible disciplinarian for the the politicians. The Players union can formally protest and then shrug their shoulders as if to say "Sorry Barry, we did what we could." This Helps Bonds because he gets a way out that gains him sympathy from his remaining fans and he doesn't have to crawl away and hide. Bonds can then bemoan his fate for as long as he likes. Just like Pete Rose he can play the "I didn't do anything wrong card" for years thus creating a cottage industry around himself.
  14. No, no, no. Angel Pagan = Ty Cobb. No, Barry Bonds = Ty Cobb Angel Pagan= Dwaine Bacon with a glove
  15. Did the Cubs get Cates too? I would think that they'd promote Cates to AA. There isn't really much reason to keep him in A ball if he has any future as a utility player.
  16. I believe he's an NBA assistant now. He was a head coach in the CBA at one time, but I don't believe the CBA exists anymore. I think the NBA's developmental league replaced it. As a Cuse fan, I'm sure Smart is your favorite player ever. :D Isn't the demise of the CBA on Isaiah Thomas' resume?
  17. =D> Kerry Wood for simulated Cy Young- his 5th
  18. Is this from the Baltimore Sun? A friend of mine told me this morning that the O's aren't happy with Patterson and might try to move him. If true I'm not sure how much of this is a PR move by the O's to generate some buzz/ give them a home grown rising star- or at least the hope of one.
  19. speaking of uniforms, does Mexico have to give their uniforms back to the University of Miami noiw that they've been eliminated?
  20. Is Bud on steroids too?
  21. If a team picks him up on waivers do they need to add him to their 40 man roster? If so I'd bet that Leicester clears waivers.
  22. I can. Baseball in general is loathe to players who are outspoken. I like Walker, but I'm not a fan of his mouth a lot of the time, particularly his recent comments about being given the 2b job. However, while I wouldn't get rid of him or hold it against him because of it, I don't think MLB works the same way. But how many times have we seen a talented player with baggage get chance after chance. There's always a team out there that thinks they will be the one's to get the most out of a player.
  23. Matos isn't that bad. If he did supplant Murton, at least Matos batting 2nd would be better than Perez in that slot. The real question is why doesn't anyone in MLB believe that Walker can play 2nd base? I cannot accept his big mouth as a legit reason why no one wants him.
  24. i'm not knocking him. He figured out how not to have contact lens problems. It's a shame that more major leaguers did not follow the lead of this brave pioneer Vance Law just wore plain old glasses. Now that's a man.
  25. Why would the O's want Walker as a DH? They already have Lopez and Millar.
