  1. awesome Simpson's reference. Wiggum "Says here you're from New York. I heard a guy got murdered in New York" Steve Sax "Lot's of people get murdered in New York" Wiggum "You don't know when to shut up, do you Sax?"
  2. He could be a contributor this year if the Cubs decide to trade Wuertz for value before the deadline.
  3. I remember during a (all star?) game then President Ronald Reagan came into the booth and he asked whoever the broadcaster was if his name was pronounced "Joo leo" or "hoo leo". Then Reagan told that story of how he was broadcasting a game and had to make up what happened for 3 innings- a story that he told a lot back then.
  4. Thanks, I was drawing a blank on Infante. He's not someone the Tigers should miss.
  5. I wouldn't be so sure. What did the Cubs get for Jones that the Tigers would regret not having? If the Neifi perez trade didn't sour them on deals with the Cubs then nothing will. The Cubs got rid of the obligation to pay Jones for being not good at baseball. The Tigers probably regret not having the money they have paid Jacque and will continue to pay him. Didn't the Cubs geta comparably bad contract in return?
  6. That's awesome! Lou, a little bit of Dusy, a Little bit of Ned, and a whole bunch of over-managing. Cub fever, catch it! Maybe we should start calling him Lou Dustyost or Dusty Pinielyost.
  7. I wouldn't be so sure. What did the Cubs get for Jones that the Tigers would regret not having? If the Neifi perez trade didn't sour them on deals with the Cubs then nothing will.
  8. Strange how Hendry and Piniella's fascination with lineup balance at the expense of starting the better player doesn't apply to Pie.
  9. If the choices are Reed Johnson and Cedeno I'll take Cedeno.
  10. no link but here's the highlights -said he would get along fine with Selig -said he gets along well with Stern in private, what the fans know is not the whole story -doesn't need to make a lot of changes -baseball is doing fine without him Erin Andrews was glowing white hot. Too bad she kept asking NBA questions.
  11. I am so tired of all the 100 years crap. I'm even more tired of idiot sports commentators saying how "Cub fans don't really want to win a WS because they'd rather be fatalist pity seekers." Now of that goes away with a WS appearance that doesn't end with a win. I would also say that no other sports teams really compare to the Cubs. When Illinois lost the NC to the 1st round of the next year's NBA draft I could take some comfort in how great the season was. When the Bears lost the superbowl they were the underdog. It was disappointing but not totally unexpected. Given the randomness of playoff baseball, I'll never feel good about the Cubs merely making the playoffs. That isn't enough anymore and it hasn't been since 1989.

  13. Murton for Wilkerson? He was DFA ed yesterday so it would make sense- by which I mean that Hendry might see that trade as a win.
  14. DeRosa did bat 2nd last year, 51 ABs. And his numbers there were excellent. As far as I can tell, Lou isn't as high on speed at number 2 as he is on old school notions of 'pesky'. Lou wants a guy that makes contact, excels at hit-and-run type of ball placement, and/or generally puts the ball in play even on outs. This is the reason Theriot has had so many looks at number 2. The way Ronnie has handled the bat, it would not surprise me to see him get that slot if he keeps it up. The only puzzling thing is why Lou hasn't put Fukudome there. He is as pesky as they come and fits the Piniella mold of a number 2. [edit - it would also give Lou his coveted left-right-left-right when he inevitably PHs Ward for the pitcher.] So why hasn't he put Derosa in the #2 spot then? Maybe he was worried about protecting Fukudome.
  15. You can keep saying it as long as you want just so long as you don't expect anyone to agree. It really doesn't matter as neither will be traded to a division rival.
  16. You gave it a 16 out of 25 but you were impressed? That's a 64%. I'm hoping to make it up there next year.
  17. My realtor's name is Neda Cox. I swear I'm not making that up. There's also a Shanita Dix at our school.
  18. Piniella hasn't- as far as I can tell- ever considered Derosa as an option to bat 2nd. I'm guessing he wants more speed in that spot. It's an interesting idea but we'll never see it. Though I prefer the lineup above I could live with Fukudome Soriano Lee Ramirez Soto Pie Derosa Cedeno Pitcher
  19. I like Derosa better as a second baseman than a light hitting corner OF.
  20. Dinged up and day to day. Hand injury. Thanks.
  21. The D-Backs have always given the Cubs fits- even when they weren't good. As far as the rest of them goes they are tough on the Cubs at home due to the travel and time differences.
  22. What happened to Vitters? I haven't seen him listed in the box scores.
  23. Why give him away for nothing when he might be useful someday? Soriano seems like a guy that may get hurt again. Theriot and Cedeno could both stop hitting. In that scenario the Cubs would probably start both Murton and Derosa. Does that seem all that unlikely?
  24. Toronto pays Thomas. Oakland pays him whatever he signed for (probably near the minimum) The move makes sense even if they are rebuilding because it gives them an .800 ops guy for free.
  25. If they were going to bat him 5th, this probably is the most likely: Theriot Fukudome Lee Ramirez Soriano Soto Pie Derosa P If it means dropping Theriot back to 8th I'll take Soriano Fukudome Lee Ramirez Soto Pie Derosa Cedeno/ Theriot P
