  1. Last year Little League added a pitch count rule to replace the old max innings per week rule. In that same spirit, this year's new rule is that if a player throws even 1 pitch he cannot play catcher during that game. The catcher can however pitch in a game even after having caught the first 5 innings. What do you think of this rule?
  2. I wonder if the O's want Patterson and the Cubs have been showcasing him at 2nd. I wouldn't mind seeing Patterson at AAA playing 2nd. He can learn to be an OF somewhere else. I think Cintron has shown enough to convince Lou and Hendry to put him on the 25 man ahead of Cedeno. If they are trying Fukudome in CF as a backup then I see the bench being Blanco, Ward, Murton, Fontenot and Cintron. If Pie gets hurt then they call up Fuld as an emergency backup.
  3. I think they are going to show some sort of highlight thing called "This is the Year" or something like that. Pie looked very Pierre esque on that play. It looked like he was afraid of running into the wall.
  4. I agree but it's good to see him at 2nd. If he could handle it defensively he really provides the same thing that Roberts does without the price tag.
  5. Small sample but Patterson and Fontenot looked passable at 2nd and SS. I didn't hear the interview with Theript, did they ask him who he thought should replace him at SS? I realize that its ST but Soriano has to pay more attention and not wander off the base. Wood and Wuertz looked good.
  6. If the Cubs go with a 3 man pen I could see how that would be a problem.
  7. You could just about say the same thing about 2nd baseman from that era too.
  8. So they'll get the first groundball out even sooner? I didn't say I believed it. Just trying to figure out what they're thinking. Here's another one. Soriano is less likely to ground into a DP because he hits more fly balls. The bright side of this is at least they won't ask the number 2 hitter to sac bunt.
  9. I'm going to try to rationalize this move. Theriot doesn't take a alot of pitches but that's ok because what he does do is swing at strikes. With Soriano batting behind him pitchers are not going to fool around with Theriot.
  10. That's why I emphasized that he wouldn't be a threat to take Pie's job. He could play maybe once a week against a tough lefty. No! the guy that backs up Pie needs to be awesome defensively as well as being able to hit because guys like that are a dime a dozen. Besides, the Cubs have a long and storied tradition of never running a guy out to CF that wasn't all that great defensively.
  11. But 3rd is still a corner position. His offense at 3rd would have to be pretty good to justify the lack of defense. If his offense improves that much than he'd be a legit corner OF.
  12. And not that I see that as problematic, but can't guys who have been reassigned to the minor league camp still appear in the "A" games? Doesn't it just mean that they've officially been eliminated from any shot at the final 25-man roster? Yeah, now that I think about it you're right. Still, if McGehee showed at least passable defense behind the plate he could be a useful bench player if Murton gets traded.
  13. Koyie Hill's still around. True but that means that McGehee is the 4th catcher or the 2nd if there's a ss game.
  14. No, its still early and it is spring training...but for a guy that really needed to have a good showing to earn a spot on the team, he has been dissappointing. Conversely, Cintron is doing a good job of convincing people he doesn't stink. I'm a little surprised that Closser was cut. Does that mean they feel comfortable enough with McGehee behind the plate when they have SS games?
  15. They might also want to get Derosa some OF work too. Have to think Pie's injury bought Fuld a few more days.
  16. :?: That's a Cubs tie in with Scott McClain who was nicknamed "Die Hard" as he single handedly proved that ST is not a good way to judge talent.
  17. 1st Clu Heyward- Major League (played for the Yankees) 2nd Joey Lawrence's character from Blossom SS- Jimmy from Bull Durham 3rd- Mclain from Diehard DH- Tom Selleck from that movie where he goes to Japan RF- obvious choice from the Natural CF- Willie Hayes LF- the kid from left field C- John Candy Brewster's Millions edit: I forgot Billy Dee Williams from that movie he did about the all balck team that travelled the south somebody and the something all stars. Also: What about Chuck Connors? His character on the Rifleman- or Branded! could play 2nd base.
  18. I'll take the pitcher that Ks all 27 batters
  19. If the season started today the Cubs probably just go without a CF backup. in the case of an emergency, Fukudome could CF or they put whichever of Patterson/ Cedeno out there. Thus Ward Blanco Murton plus 2 from the MI group Patterson/Cedeno/Cintron/Fontenot and I'll even throw McGehee in there if they want someone that's versatile. At this point I'd guess Cintron due to experience and Cedeno due to his "ability" to play 2 positions of need: RH CF and SS.
  20. He's exactly like Die Hard and should follow his example and take his game to Japan where he'd make more money and fare a lot better.
  21. In our defense, the last Illinois RB to have a decent NFL career was Howard Griffith; before that it was Red Grange.
  22. Lieber looked good. I didn't realize the injury last year was not arm/ shoulder related.Maybe he'll surprise us with an ERA in the 4s. I liked seeing Casey Mcgahee behind the plate even if it was in a ss game. He could be a useful RH bat and would allow the Cubs to PH for Blanco. I wish Kroeger was playing CF in the WGN game. Anyone know how he is in CF?
  23. You had me at Takatsu blows. Then you lost me.
  24. In other news Lindsay Lohan is getting serious about her rehab.
