  1. Maybe go after a CF (Bradley/Cameron) with those extra starting arms we have, but I agree.. LF - Murton CF - Patterson (Bradley? ) RF - Giles 1B - Lee 2B - Walker SS - Furcal 3B - ARam C - Barrett To me, that lineup looks good enough to compete for the division. Amazing how much of a difference 2 signings would make. I think with Giles and Furcal, we could afford to let Patterson try one more time in CF. The line-up could be: Furcal SS Walker 2b Lee 1b Giles RF Ramirez 3b Patterson CF Murton LF Barrett C I think that line-up could conceivably be a top 3-4 offense. We could afford to let Patterson try again in center field but I would rather not chance it. Go and Get Bradley the Dodgers are in dump mode. Forget Furcal and get Nomar on the cheap. Walker Bradley Lee Giles Ramirez Nomar Barrett Murton man I wish the Cubs where the Yankees and could replace Murton with Dunn, Manny, Floyd, Matsui. This would be just fine with me.
  2. Too bad he won't run the Cubs, as Hendry looks like he's going to stick aroudn at least through this year.
  3. I said Hulk vs. SUPERMAN. Read more carefully. ;) I think Hulk could kick Spidey's ass, because when the Hulk gets huge, I think he'd be strong enough to break through any webs Spiderman could sling. And, at that point I think he could just swat Spiderman away like a fly. I think he'd beat Superman. If Batman can with gadgets and just human strength, the Hulk could easily do it, IMO.
  4. Spiderman was at least chosen (by fate, anwyay) to have superpowers. Batman is just a rich guy who bought all sorts of cool crap. It's like saying anyone can be a superhero if they're rich enough. I kind of like the idea that you don't choose to be a Superhero, it chooses you. I think they'd both fight to the near death, but I give the edge to Spiderman. Now, Hulk vs. Superman, who would win?
  5.  I hated seeing Harris go, but at least he helped us get Murton. That's true. It'd be easy to cry over Harris being exchanged for Nomar . . . but, as it has turned out, Murton has been the "centerpiece" of that deal. Murton was no slouch when we got him, though. I was quite excited about him coming here as well. Although I don't think anything short of my first child being born will top the joy I felt when we traded for Nomar.
  6. Probably. The Rangers see a guy with speed who's still pretty young, and that nasty little "p" word starts running through thier minds (you know, "potential"). But they are being opportunistic with his value being as low as it is. Personally, Corey will not be successful here. Not saying he'll never have any vaule anywhere, but he'll never have any value in a Cubs uniform.
  7. I can't imagine why the Cubs would want Soriano - the exact opposite of the kind of hitter we need. *points to sig*
  8. I have no faith in a man who not only traded for Jose Macias, but re-signed him. He also gave a raise to Alfonseca, and lets Dusty get away with his crap. He overpaid for Maddux, and waits far too long on potential trades, FA signings, etc. This should be Hendry's last shot. Yes, he brought in Lee, Ramirez, etc, but he's made more boneheaded moves than good ones.
  9. See, I always thought Dempster would be best suited for 1B.
  10. i'd demand a bag of baseballs or less. I'd settle for a half-eaten cheese sandwich and a cup of cold coffee.
  11. I very much doubt we'll get any results, period.
  12. And also an early knock on him was that he lacked power. Granted, he isn't going to give Manny Ramirez or Barry Bonds anything to worry about, but I've compared him to Mark Grace before, and I'll stick by that. If we get Mark Grace-like production out of Murton in left, I'll be thrilled.
  13. I really don't care who replaces Dusty at this point. Just so he gets his toothpick-chomping butt as far away from this team as he can, I'm happy.
  14. Interesting. How good is Will Carroll, usually?
  15. I hope the Tribune is watching, and I hope it hurts like hell. I hope Jim Hendry is watching, and I hope he's pissed. I hope Andy MacPhail is on the phone right friggin now to the Tribune asking for cash. And then I hope he and Jim use it wisely. I hope they're exploring every avenue there is to improve the on-field product for next year. I hope Dusty is watching, too. I don't know if he's smart enough to comprehend what he is seeing, but I hope he's watching nonetheless. Knowing this organization, something like this will motivate them. However, they'll probably throw a buttload of money at a few B and C level free agents, expect them to be saviors, and then crucify them when things don't work out. Or, they'll probably think they're "on the right track" and keep the same course of action, which means we'll likely see Macias, Neifi, Dusty, et al here for the foreseeable future. And somehow they'll find a way to blame Sammy. A Cubs World Series win next year would make the Sox win an afterthought, however they won't win. Why? They're the Cubs. Losing is what they do.
  16. The White Sox have to win 2 games yet to win this series. Karma still has some time left to kick in.
  17. Here's hoping that the Rockies give Neifi an offer that he can't refuse. Rotoworld speculates that the Yankees might have interest in him as well. I'll buy his plane ticket.
  18. I really wish we'd tap the Japanese market. Plenty of talent there. But, has Hendry even showed the slightest bit of interest?
  19. Knock on wood.. Don't do it too hard, though. He may land on the DL.
  20. If he keeps throwing them 99 nobody's gonna hit them and he can throw them all night.
  21. FOX is reporting he was having left hamstring soreness.
  22. Would Washington want to give him up, though?
  23. Well said. That's why there is a playoff. If a team is truly #1, they should be able to prove it in the playoffs. If they don't, I guess they're not the best. And, flukes happen. It's a part of life.
  24. I've been pro-15/15 for a while, with one interleague matchup going on at all times. I'd have the previous year's WS participants, and runners-up, play each other early in the season. With the previous season's cellar dwellers facing off at the end. I've backed a 15/15 with an uneven schedule spanning both leagues and eliminating the DH. The players Union would never ever eliminate the DH. That's 14 possible places an aging slugger can go and get one last payday.
  25. NYC would be able to hold another team. Although back when they had three teams, the other 3 major sports where nowhere near as big, so most of the "sports" money went to baseball. Steinbrenner would pop a vein, though, if MLB even thought about putting another team in New York.
