  1. I'm gonna miss the semifinals!! I'm getting married that day!! Aarrrggh!! Maybe I can have a TV in the reception hall!! And that 2nd round is going to be brutal. Each team will have to play 7 games in 3 days? Ouch.
  2. If some of those rosters are just half as good as BA projects, this is going to be one heck of a blast to watch. I also like the fact that later rounds will be played in MLB stadiums. A US. vs. DR showdown in Petco would be awesome... this'll be sweet. Any details on how games will be broadcasted? What stadiums? I would imagine warm-weather or dome stadiums. And probably in bigger markets, so that would eliminate Milwaukee.
  3. Damn right it would. Especially in a short series, if the final 8 is best of 3. Something I'd like to see... that Venezuelan staff against the Puerto Rican offense. Who would win?
  4. I think it would be pool play while they'd be in groups, then the final 8 would probably be single elim. Although I'd love it to be best 2 of 3 when it got to that point. There is no way they'll have the time to do best of 5 or 7 when it gets down to the nitty gritty because it will overlap with the regular season.
  5. I think the final 4 would be Japan, Venezuela, USA, and the Dominican. Although Puerto Rico has a great team too. Probably the best offense in the tournament, but thier starting pitching is lacking. This will be some damn good baseball. Too bad it'll only be once every 4 years.
  6. Wow.... I would love that rotation Dear God. That's almost unfair!
  7. My thoughts exactly. Much ado about jack squat. It's nice for those who will watch, though. If it grows the game, then I suppose it's all right. I think it would be a great showcase of some of the lesser known (but quite good) international players out there. Plus, the Domincan team will be sick!
  8. OK, well that shuts me up. Although insurance covering the monetary losses still wouldn't be able to cover the production lost if a Pujols, Vlad, or Zambrano got hurt.
  9. Then why even have pitchers? Why not just let them hit off of a tee? I wonder if this tournament will be as "star studded" as everyone claims it will be. Would MLB teams let their players participate in this tournament, risking an injury to them that would carry into the regular season?
  10. I'm not really a basketball fan, but it really looks like the Bulls found the right coach for the good, young talent that they're loaded with. They have some bonafide future superstars in there. The team I saw had a lot of heart and determination, and a never-say-die attitude. Quite impressive to be the 4 seed in the East after starting 0-9.
  11. Next year Vance. KC will be able to get another Cub via Rule 5 Draft next year for the pen. Well hell, lets leave Pie and Dopirak unprotected next year. Surely no one will want to take them.
  12. Yeah, he's history.
  13. Yup, because if you don't protect him, that means nobody will take him, right Jim? *sigh* we sure could use him in the pen right now.
  14. Wow. Hopefully heart surgery won't be needed. Get better Eddy. Oops, I didn't see this thread. Mods, please merge/close the Eddy Curry thread I made. Sorry. :( Here is the ESPN article... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2037321
  15. including the playoffs. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2037321 Quite a blow.
  16. He looked very good. Considering he was brought into a game with the Royals already trailing 7-1, it appears they are going to ease him in with mop up duty. I'm pretty sure at this point he's as good as gone. I wouldn't be so sure. There's 157 games to go and he has to stay on the roster for all of them. While he looked good tonight, he may not the next time he's used. Yeah, but they don't give a crap if he pitches effectively for them because their team sucks. Derrick Turnbow sucked as a Rule V pick. Miguel Asencio was bad for the Royals in '02 but they didn't care because they thought he had potential. Johan Santana winning the Cy Young gives even more incentive for crappy teams to hang onto high-ceiling players for their Rule V year. I said it when the draft went down, Sisco would be gone. Thank God we have Rohlicek and Randolph, though. Who let Santana go unprotected?
  17. Hendry has to know that the dipwad he has running this team has no clue what he's doing. He has got to get rid of those guys, because that's the only way Dusty will stop using them.
  18. We will never reach the promised land with Dusty Baker as our manager. Never.
  19. Exactly. Games in April count just as much in the standings as games in August or September. If a team (not just the Cubs, any team) misses a playoff spot by one game, they can maybe look back to a game they had in hand in April and blew because of poor fundimentals or bad managing. Games in the first week of the season are important, too. Any game that counts is important. Guys should be playing thier butts off and hustling just as hard now as they would in the last week of the season with the playoffs on the line. There is no excuse not to. Play hard, or don't play at all.
  20. I think Raw, since he started this thread, is going to have to split the cost of a new server with Tim, because this thread will need one just for it.
  21. Hendry had more of a man crush on Baker than he did Barrett. He went hard after his man and got him. Do you really think he doesn't care for the job Dusty is doing? If he was willing to hire him when everybody knew all of his faults, he obviously didn't consider those faults. If his faults didn't bother him before, why would they now? Because the faults are much more glaring now. I don't know much of his decade in San Fran, but did he ever lose control of the clubhouse there? Did he ever bat players who shouldn't even be on a Major League roster in the 2 hole?
  22. Yeah, I very highly doubt it. I view it this way.... Say you stink at your job. Your co-workers know it, your boss knows it. However, HIS boss thinks you're the greatest thing to ever come along. Would you feel secure in your job? Of course you would. And you could do whatever you want because you know you wouldn't get fired by your boss, because then his boss would fire him. It's the same thing with Hendry. I'm sure he'd like to buy Baker the next plane/train/bus ticket out of town, but the Tribune, who only looks at the 88 and 89 wins and thinks "Improvement!", thinks Baker is doing a fine job, and will keep him there for at least as long as he's under contract. Erik, Where do you get your information from? From the voices in my head. They're quite helpful. Seriously, all the stuff I wrote in this thread was just my own assumptions based on my observations. What else could it possibly be? I'm sure Hendry doesn't care for the job that Dusty is doing, but he still has a job. That reeks of "Tribune interference" to me.

  24. Baker is in a power struggle with Hendry. Hendry could "strongly suggest" that Baker play this player over that one, but unless he actually takes away options like Neifi, Blanco, etc, Baker will keep playing them with regularity. Hendry should know this by now... the crappier the player, the more playing time he'll get. Why does he keep giving Baker these options?
  25. How bad ARE the feelings toward Sammy Sosa in the Cubs clubhouse? Are they anywhere near as bad as reported in the media? If he isn't traded, will there be bad feelings toward him the whole year? Also, who do you think the Cubs will sign or trade for this offseason, in both the outfield and the bullpen?
