  1. Depends, are you over the age of 30? Do you refuse to take a walk? Can you catch the ball? I can catch it. I have pretty crappy range because I'm fat and have a bad knee. I'll swing at everything thrown if they'd pay me that much and that's what they wanted.
  2. Wait, we have a curse? I think FOX mentioned it once during the Cubs playoff run in 2003.
  3. Neifi Perez isn't on the list?
  4. This thread makes me angry. I'm just hoping the bottom falls out and Hendry and Baker are both canned during the season and the kids get some playing time. Hey Jim, I suck at baseball, too! Can I have a million dollars?
  5. I think the 11pm Sportscenter.
  6. That was Jim Hendry rationalizing giving Neifi about 2.49M more than any other team was going to give him for 2006. I think we should put CuseCubFan's new team motto on the shirt. "Cubs Fever 2006...Catch It!"* *and if you can't catch it, you'll be traded I like this better.... "Cubs Fever. Catch it!* "then get some antibiotics."
  7. per Yahoo http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051108/ap_on_sp_ba_ne/venezuela_urbina;_ylt=Av.70zDcJSOAj9TvIvY9hEes0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3cm82NXAwBHNlYwM3NTU-
  8. Born into it. Grandpa was a fan, dad was a fan, made me an my brother fans. My kids will probably be fans as well, although I'm going to try to steer them away from this sad-sack bunch of losers as I don't want them to have thier heart broken as many times as I have over the years.
  9. Looks like Ill be heading up there on a Friday night. The last time I was up in Milwaukee for a Friday game was in early September of 2003. Cubs won the game 4-2, Sammy hit a two run bomb in the first, and Juan Cruz picked up the win. Even Alfonseca had a huge strikeout to get out of a jam. And best of all, there had to be over 20,000 Cub fans. Man those were the good old days. I was there for 2 of those games. I think game 1 and 2. One was Randall Simon's first game in Milwuakee after Sausagegate, and the game after. I believe the Cubs blew out the Brewers in both those games.
  10. Woo! A weekend series in Milwaukee! Yay!
  11. I don't think anyone here has really any beef with Neifi being on the team. I think the beef is that he's on the team with Dusty here, therefore will be misused to the detriment of the team. Either Neifi can be here, or Dusty can be here. He can be a good late-inning defensive backup, and has a little pop in his bat. He'd be a good 25th man on any other team in baseball except for this one.
  12. Please, please, please, please... We'll even take Castillo off their hands if they'll sign Neifi. I'd say there is a good chance the Marlins could go after Garciaparra as well. I would hate to have to root against Nomar for going to the evil, Godless, commie Marlins.
  13. Pfft. Not me. He can take his .220 average and his double play ball dropping, Game 6 costing ass and stay the hell away. Aww c'mon man. The homers were nice, eh? That's the only reason people valued him. He hit a few game-winning homers and all of a sudden he's the second coming. Never mind the insane amount of k's and the numerous 1-40 slumps.
  14. Pfft. Not me. He can take his .220 average and his double play ball dropping, Game 6 costing ass and stay the hell away.
  15. And if that's the case Cedeno will have a rather impressive collection of butt splinters, because he's not going to get much playing time at all with Dusty's boy manning 2nd.
  16. If it were me, I'd rather part with Rusch than Williams, but that won't be happening because we just signed Rusch. Something about me says Williams is going to be a valuable pitcher one day. Not a 1 or a 2, but I can see him being a solid #4 starter or a good long reliever for someone some day. I'd prefer Nomar over Furcal, but that seems like a pipe dream at this point. I'll miss you, Nomar!! I could go for Pierre in center. But there is no way we could get Burnett, Furcal, AND Pierre. Personally, I'd rather have Pierre, and see if we can re-sign Nomar. Walker can lead off, too, but stupid Hendry values getting to a few extra balls over base hits and OBP, so he won't be here next year either. If the chips fall right and we sign all these guys, it could turn out very well, and it likely will. However, it could possibly be a disaster as well.
  17. He is now a free agent and probably won't be back with the team, as if this shocked anyone. If he is a White Sox member next year, it'll be for a lot less than the $10 million he made this past year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2214118
  18. How could he be taking the rap? Did he pee in the cup of another player? Wouldn't that have been snuffed out as soon as he stepped into the room with players and MLB officials?
  19. It was rough on him, though. He lost all the money in his purse, even his "mad money" and had to walk home.
  20. Knightlife_in_Lubbock beat me this week by less than a point. Stupid Brett Favre and his 5 INT's. One less and I'd have won. Grrrr.
  21. You'd think someone on the Cubs team would have been able to figure that out by now.
  22. If I was there I'd give him a standing ovation.
  23. You gotta give him another shot after his only MLB at bat ended up with him getting hit in the head. I don't know enough about him to make a completely educated statement, but from what I've heard he may be a good backup OF.
  24. .285/.350/.430 Yeah, I'm really being an optimist. Mark this down, it doesn't happen that often.
  25. I disagree. What the Cardinals do this offseason has no effect on our success next season. As long as we improve in the areas that need improving we'll be fine. My ideal offseason would be trade for Huff, sign Furcal, and improve the bullpen. I'm fine with the rotation the way it is. Williams is a good 5th starter imo. Furcal Walker Lee Aramis Huff Murton Barret Corey With an improved bullpen, we can make the playoffs with that team. Regardless of what the Cards do. IMO, that offense doesn't even mildly compare to St. Louis'. Furcal is highly overrated. he's simply not a great offensive player, and I think many of our fans are placing far too much hope in how much he would "improve" the offense. He steals a lot of bases, but he's not particularly good at getting on base for a leadoff hitter. Huff is coming off a terrible year, so that's a gamble at best. Corey was darn near the worst player in baseball last year. BArret's fine, Lee is very good, but we have to question whether he'll be 2005 DLee or somehwere between '05 (batting champ, slugging the snot out of the ball) and the rest of his career (very good, but not one of the top 3 hitters in baseball.) Don't get me wrong, I want him to be a Cub for a looong time now, but I don't know that we should expect him to repeat his '05 numbers every year. Ramirez is great, and I really hope Walker is back. But to be honest, as a whole, I don't like that lineup. I don't see it as a significant upgrade to what we already have, and it's far and away short of a Cardinals offense with Giles. I really think the Cubs need to be the big players this off-season in adding top-notch talent. they must add one impact bat (at least) and at least one or two above average bats in addition to a bullpen arm or two. Furcal and Huff don't cut it, IMO. I don't know if I"d want Huff here. Maybe if we could get him for a bargain, as he's coming off a bad year and doesn't seem to be welcome in Tampa, I'd give it a shot. But I wouldn't be willing to give up too much for him.
