  1. Because I don't think anybody believes that Nomar can still play a passable shortstop. Nomar at SS >>>>>>>>>> AGon II or Neifi. Offensively yes, defensively not so much. Whatever he lacks defensively he can make up for with his bat. As much as I like Nomar, I think his days at SS are over. But my point is I'd rather have Nomar in this stage of his career at SS rather than AGon II or Neifi.

  4. Gotta be great to have guys like him in the clubhouse, keeping things loose during the long season. I bet he's a practical joker, too.
  5. Seeing as Hendry and Baker, but especially Hendry, are in the last year of their contracts you would think Hendry is going to do everything he can to bring in some proven talent, because if he doesn't and the Cubs stink, his stay in Chicago is all but over. It is do or die for Hendry. You would think, yes. But this is Jim Hendry. And the Chicago Cubs. *refers you to my sig*
  6. I'm starting to think that none of Giles, Furcal, or Pierre will be a Cub in 2006.
  7. Excuse me for one minute..... BAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
  8. Yeah, just what we need. AGon II. Get him and World Series, here we come!! Why Nomar can't be "plan B", with Cedeno as "plan C" is beyond me.
  9. I was listening to XM Radio Home Plate on DirecTV today(by the way I am so excited that DirecTV switched to this instead of just music..really cool) but anyways one of the guys on there suggested they freeze the urine samples of the players. The reason being that sooner or later there will be a test for HGH and when that comes out then you go back and test for HGH on past and present players. He said if they implement this right now then players will fear that even though they can currently get away with using HGH sooner or later they will be caught and be humiliated like Palmerio. He said a Dr. has said that you can freeze the urine sample for a number of years and they would still be accurate. I kind of like this idea. Whats everybody elses thoughts? They COULD do that, but I think it would be unfair to punish people for something that wasn't against the rules when they did it. I'm totally against HGH and all the other stuff, but if it wasn't against the rules at the time players did it, you can't really punish them for it.
  10. Is that classified as a steroid precursor?
  11. Doubles come from hitting the ball hard, I don't see how this would make guys hit the ball harder. I mean guys maybe shortening thier swings and making better contact. Guys trying to drive a ball into a gap instead of into the bleachers. But anyway, I think it will have a better effect on the game. I just hope they develop tests for all this designer stuff that guys are on and weed it totally out.
  12. I don't mean "smart" ball in terms of Ozzie ball... but I do mean maybe instead of juicers expanding thier swing and strike zone to try to hit a homer, maybe k's will decrease a bit, we'll see more contact, more doubles, hits strung together to spark rallies. Overall, better, fundimental baseball.
  13. Maybe this will usher in some more 80's style baseball. You know, moving runners over, stealing bases, trying to drive a ball into the gap instead of trying to hit it 450 feet. Better fundimentals. More "smart" ball instead of sitting back and waiting for the 3-run homer. I think we've seen the last of the 60-homer season, but I think we'll still see 40 homer years nearly every year.
  14. Although I think Lee was the MVP (and will always be in my heart), I can accept Pujols winning it. But Jones finishing second is inexcuseable. I know he isn't because he's too classy, but if I was DLee I'd be pissed that Jones finished ahead of me.
  15. An independent auditor will be appointed to oversee all tests.
  16. per MSNBC all steriods banned. All amphetimines (sp?) banned, except for those found in cold meds. 1st offense- 50 games 2nd offene- 100 games 3rd offense-- lifetime ban, ability to appeal after 2 years 2 tests per year per player, plus random testing throughout the year.
  17. Neifi will not be a backup as long as Dusty Baker is managing this team.
  18. Yep, good points. The sky hasn't fallen yet. It appears the Cubs are in good position w/ Furcal. It's unrealistic to expect him to sign a few days after free agency begins. Most top 5 free agents take a while. good point, but is hinging the rest of your offseason on a top 5 free agent signing a smart move? i hope Hendry's backup plan for Furcal falling through is solid. I'd be willing to bet that he doesn't have a backup plan. Or if there is, it's Neifi.
  19. The fact that he's in his late 30's has absolutely nothing to do with it, right? It does. But his decline has been alarmingly sharp compared to most sluggers of his magnitude. This leads one to wonder... With some sluggers, they just gradually decline until they can't find a job anymore, or retire. Some just hit the wall. McGwire, Mays, etc just hit the wall. Decent one year, then terrible the next. Sammy was one of those. Its probably not the best idea to reference Mark McGwire as an example of an aging star who hit the wall as opposed to someone who used steroids. True, but my point is made. Your point is mde that one of your examples is a guy who hit the wall suddenly and was a user? Ok, Mays, Ruth (his final season with the Braves). Happy now?
  20. It was stupid from a negotiation standpoint. Very, very stupid.
  21. The Cubs have been doing this as long as I can remember. Let Player A walk because you're pursuing via trade/FA Player B. Player B doesn't come here, Player A is gone, so you're stuck with incredibly inferior Player C. Yeah - none of th other ML teams do this...ever. I never once said no other team did it. I'm stating the Cubs do it far more often than other teams.
  22. I do, too. In time I'll grow to accept someone else as the #1 slugger on this team. I like Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez very much, but they're no Sammy. Nothing was better than a Sammy homer to win it. Nothing.
