  1. WOAH WOAH WOAH. He won't be able to THROW until opening day? Who the hell said this? Nobody said that. I was asking how far along he was in his rehab. I was asking if he'd even be able to throw by Opening Day, or if he would be able to throw before then. I guess I should have phrased it better.
  2. You don't have to use Paypal. I know some people refuse to deal with that company. You could send Tim a check if you like. Or just some money in a briefcase would do. ;)
  3. I never thought I'd say it, either, but I'm feeling myself slipping.... I thought I'd be a Cub fan till the day I died, but it gets REALLY had to like this team when you have stupidity beyond words at every level in this organization.
  4. OK, so now will he not be able to even throw until opening day? If that's the case, he won't be back till June. But if he'll be able to rehab before then, he'll be ready maybe by the end of April (hopefully).
  5. Guess the news today about Woody missing Opening Day makes this thread kinda irrelevant.
  6. Ok, can anyone truly say they DIDN'T see this coming last year when they pitched him out of the pen. Good lord this team is (bleeping) stupid. Dusty, I hate you with the fire of 1,000 suns. Kerry, as soon as your contract is up, bail to an organization who knows what the heck it's doing. And now the price tag on any FA pitcher that the Cubs have their eyes on has just raised tremendously, because now everyone knows how desperate this team is. Say hello to overpaying for Milwood or Washburn, guys.
  7. I've been wearing my Nomar shirt all day today in hopes of a miracle.
  8. One of the reasons I will forever hate Antonio Alfonseca.
  9. How about having a manager who encourages walks, instead of saying they "clog the bases?" I'm sure once fines and benchings would come for swinging at everything within the city of Chicago, the OBP would improve.
  10. HHHBK channeling Ric Flair. WOOOOOOO!!!! *beats the crap out of a motorist* *gets a divorce* I'm Ric Flair, too! WOOOOOOOOO!!
  11. Wow, I can't recall an offseason where the Pirates of all teams were right in the thick of things.
  12. Trading Walker so Perez can start would be the absolute dumbest thing JH could possibly do.
  13. I don't know. With Washburn, you could be getting a 16-win guy with a 3.20 ERA, or an 8 win guy with a 4.75 ERA. It would be a gamble.
  14. Having Mark Grace at 1B and nobody at other spots to offset his lack of power certainly did hurt the Cubs. You can make due with less than ideal hitters at certain positions, but you have to offset it with better than normal hitters at other positions. And again, my motive in this discussion is to make the Cubs the best they can be. Part of that is making the offense as good as it can be. I don't think Pierre comes close to making this offense what it should be, considering the resources available to create it. I don't think he makes them bad by any means. My complaint is that this is more of a "compete within the division" move than "let's win 95 games a year for the next 3-4 years and play into late October every season". I see no reason why the Cubs can't go for the latter. Nor do I. But the Pierre move has given this eternal pessimist a faint glimmer of hope. Now, come July I'm probably going to regret I ever said that, but as of right now I'm willing to wait and see if we land Bradley or Wilkerson or Huff before I say this team can't compete to win the National League. And no, this move doesn't make them great, but it makes them better, so I like the move. I think, at this point, getting two good players is just as good as getting one great one.
  15. Many people don't want Pierre on the team at all, why would extending him make things better? Pie isn't a RF. RF is an impact bat position, unless of course you have studs at positions that don't normally have studs, but that is not the case with the Cubs, and not likely to be in the near future. If things work out Pie will be a good hitting CF in 2007. If he ever becomes productive enough to be a RF, that won't happen until his 26/27/28 year old seasons, 2010 and beyond. Just throwing things out there, goony. Some people seem (at least to me) like they're mad we gave up Pinto and Nolasco for just one year of Pierre. But, to each his own. If he does well I'd like to see him back.
  16. Just because it's the only explanation that you can come up with doesn't mean it's the explanation. What does it matter if it's his fault or not? The point is he's still getting caught. He's still out. He still can't come around and score. Are you trying to irrationally argue, as USSoccer is, that Hendry/Baker have gone to such lengths to acquire this prototypical speedy leadoff man just so that they can tell him to run less often, to get caught stealing less often? It matters because you're lowing HIS on base percentage to make HIM look like lesser of a player. I'm saying that that is faulty because it's not entirely his fault. And yes, I would agree with USSoccer that Pierre will likely run less with Baker as his manager. It's pretty logical to assume that. I hope Dusty doesn't totally ground him, though. Having a speedster like that on base can get inside a pitchers head.
  17. I don't want to get into the whole "do you really need power at power positions" arguments, but do you think having hitters like Mark Grace or Tony Gwynn at "power positions" hurt their teams?
  18. If Pie develops and is ready by next season, then there's no way on earth you want to keep Pierre as a 4th OF. You'd let him walk and (depending) offer arb for the draft picks. True, although say we back off from power a bit, and have Pierre and Pie in the same of, with Murton in left? Is that too much of a lack of power, or do you think we can pull it off?
  19. Who says Pierre has to be a one-year rental? Why can't he be extended to two or three years? Why can't Pie play right when he gets called up?
  20. Does anyone know if Pierre caught that "wiggly feel"?
  21. Wow, I want to see something done but we shouldn't need three highly rated prospects for a one-year rental from a team selling their team for spare parts. I have no issues parting with Mitre, but I'd only give them Nolaso OR Pinto, not both.
  22. I think you keep Walker in this situation. Pierre/Walker could be a hell of a 1-2 combo ahead of DLee and Aram.
  23. It would have to be Non-Cubs non-MLB, as all the baseball news can fit in baseball discussions, rivalries, or transactions.
