  1. His plan is to throw obscene amounts of money at mediocre relievers and crappy utility infielders.
  2. Always liked the old logo. I'm interested to see what they'll look like. I had no clue there was an M and B in the ball and glove until like last year. I'm a fan of the logo. I figured it out a bit before that, but I had seen that logo for years and years before one day I looked at it and said "Hey! There's an M and a B in there! Cool!" I was in middle school when they got rid of the old logo, and hated the new one. And why does it just have to be for Sunday home games? Why can't it be for all games?
  3. I don't think it's a given that Howry has signed with us, correct? Or did I miss something?
  4. If we give 11 million to Eyre and 12 million to Howry, Hendry should be shot without trial. Ok, not literally, but it would not be a good move.
  5. 2 things... 1) Does this affect us getting Burnett at all? Are we still in that running? 2) How do the Yankees counter?
  6. The X factor in this whole discussion is if Cedeno will be the starter on Opening Day, and if he is, will he get a fair shot at holding onto the job? I think we'll see some thinly-veiled comments from Dusty about Cedeno starting (but only because management is pushing it on him), then if we see just one 1-12 slump, Neifi will be in there for 2 months.
  7. He's a very smart businessman who made a ton of money and wants to play with it. He's willing to spend to have fun, and while I don't think he'd lose millions to win (he might, but I doubt it), he isn't fundamentally opposed to it as a publicly owned company (the tribune) is. He could pull a 97 marlins if he wanted to, risky as that is. If it brought me a World Series victory in my lifetime, I'd go for it.
  8. Exactly. If they were only broadcast once a week on a local station in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, I couldn't care less if they won it all... I'd still have Pat and Ron.
  9. Something else to consider is attitude. While BH with the I-Cubs, I had the "pleasure" of meeting him a few times. He was an arrogant , and I was overjoyed to hear he was dealt. From what I know, Neifi has always been a very well-liked teammate. And exactly how is Neifi being a stand-up guy going to get us wins?
  10. There is a dark cloud behind every silver lining. Everything would get shimmied over to FSN-C (which I don't get) and I'd never see a game. Grr!! But if it brought us a World Series, I'd be all for it.
  11. Don't be so sure about that until we have a moment where we're close to getting to the World Series and don't blow it in a most agonizing fashion. This is just one of those things that will get our hopes up, and then we'll all be bummed out when those hopes are crushed. It's called "Being a Cub fan".
  12. They can have him.
  13. If he has another disaster like last year and he and Dusty both recieve extentions as is rumored, then nobody here has a leg to stand on when trying to claim that the Trib wants to win. The Trib put all its trust in Andy, and they've given management alll the resources they could use to build a winner. It's the management that has let down Cubs fans, not the ownership. But don't you think the Trib should be responsible for cleaning house if the management team they put in isn't getting the job done? The fact they've let it go on this long shows me they don't care as much as they should. To be somewhat fair they were within a few outs of the World Series two years ago. I doubt the Trib will eat both Hendry and Baker's contracts when they were so close, not so long ago. Not saying I agree but they did bring them to the brink not too long ago. Yes, but look at the personnel and management moves that have been made since then. The Lee and Nomar trades were the big ones, but you can't keep Hendry here just because of those moves. You have to look deeper at the Alfonseca fiasco, the Neifi and Macias situations, etc.

  15. I thought I felt a trade coming, too, but it turned out to be gas.
  16. Of course not. Why would Hendry want to pay for someone talented when there are Scott Eyre's, Neifi Perez's and Jose Macias's out there just waiting to collect a hefty payday for being crappy?

  18. I'll always remember where I was when I heard that Geoff Blum had signed.
  19. Because I don't think anybody believes that Nomar can still play a passable shortstop. Nomar at SS >>>>>>>>>> AGon II or Neifi. Offensively yes, defensively not so much. Whatever he lacks defensively he can make up for with his bat. As much as I like Nomar, I think his days at SS are over. But my point is I'd rather have Nomar in this stage of his career at SS rather than AGon II or Neifi. I'd rather have 35 games of Nomar @ 2b and then, after he gets injured, take my chances with Cedeno than have to watch another season of Neifi-ball any day :!: Works for me. Not a guarantee he gets injured, though. I'd love for Walker to stay, but if it comes between Neifi and Nomar at 2nd, I'd rather have Nomar, because as long as Dusty and Neifi are here, Cedeno isn't going to start more than twice a week.
  20. I'm still holding out for UW-Whitewater alum Bob Wickman. Yeah, I know he sucks, but *points to avatar*.
  21. If the Cubs, Cads, Astros, Yankees, or Red Sox can sign BJ Ryan I think that team jumps to the favorite in the division. A 2 headed monster of Ryan + the Closer would be huge come playoff time. I would love to see Hendry add Ryan even at the cost of having an expensive 8th and 9th inning. I don't know. Don't get me wrong, BJ and Dempster (I guess I could say Ryan and Ryan) would be great in the 8th and 9th innings, but I don't think you could, right now, say the Cubs would win the division next year because they signed a setup man. They have to address thier other needs as well. BJ Ryan would be a wonderful addition, but he's not the be-all-end-all.
