  1. Andy got to celebrate his pennant after Game 4, and after Berkman's home run last night. I don't feel sorry for any of them. Did you see the Cardinals' reaction after the game last night? No celebrating. They simply shook hands and headed for the clubhouse. They know that they still have work to do, unlike the Astros after Game 4. That's why the Cards are the best team in baseball. I don't think the best team has yet been decided. At least not for this year. The Cards were the best team in the league this year. The playoffs decides who gets the championship, but it doesn't change the fact that STL was dominant for the regular season. Agreed. The champions aren't always the best team in baseball that year. Sports would be boring if the best team always won. That's why you have playoffs. As it's seeded, the best team has the easiest road to the championship series. If they really are the best then they should be able to get there.
  2. So then why'd they throw Raffy under the bus? Does an independent 3rd party lab test the results, or do MLB employees? He was expendable and part of the reason why you all are disagreeing with me. You all can feel the way you want to obviously...I just think that MLB/players union are not being truthful about this. Cuse, I do think there is a little truth in what you say. I too find it odd that with the exception of Raffy, it's been all minor leaguers and fringe players. It wouldn't shock me if there was some sort of cover-up going on. The problem with a conspiracy theory is motive. Consider what MLB has to gain by protecting all-stars and then consider what it has to lose. It makes no sense. The status quo would be enough. Look at the ad revenue, the "star power" that these players have. Look at the TV money they bring in. They put fans in the seats and sell tickets and merchandise. That's quite a lot. What it has to lose is all of that and more. I think they have more than enough motivation for a cover-up. And one thing I'd like to see changed is that the test results don't go from the testing lab to MLB. They should go from the lab straight to the press.
  3. If Heredia was that bad on the juice, I shudder to think how bad he'd be off of them.

  6. But it's not like the Crawford boxes are only there when the Astros are up. The visiting team can also take advantage of the short porch there. Mel Ott hit most of his home runs over a wall that was 275 feet away. Should we take him out of the hall because he probably got a few "cheapies" in his career? It works both ways. There's a difference between making excuses for a loss based on the ballpark, and complaining about the stupidity of the design of the ballpark. It is the same no matter who is batting. But you wouldn't put the fences 150 feet away, or 600 feet away in any new stadium, and it's not because it would be unfair against one team. It's because it's dumb. The short left field porch is a joke. The insane cut-out area in left center is stupid, the center field is pointless. It was a poorly designed ballpark. The stupidest thing of all is that hill. I've said that since the beginning. I'm shocked nobody has broken a leg or blown out a knee because of that thing yet.
  7. I think we'd have bout $22m left, if my math is right... For what? a RF'er, a SS, and a couple of pen arms and bench guys? Pretty good if that's the case. We could still make a run at Giles.

  9. The Astros are in trouble, IMO. If they don't win game 6 they won't win game 7. With one swing, Pujols awakened a sleeping giant. It's now headed back to St. Louis with the Cards on top of the world and the Astros down. I don't like the Astros chances of winning. They have Oswalt and Clemens going, yes, but I don't think Cy Young in his prime would matter at this moment.
  10. I worry that if that trade goes down that Lowe's contract will become an albatross near the end of his deal. What would payroll be if in fact it would go down? About how much money would we have left to fill the other holes?
  11. Berkman just hit the biggest home run of his life.
  12. But defense is not the reason this team didn't win enough games this year. Not saying you are wrong, but I can think of 3 games off the top of my head that the defense cost us. An improved defense should be one of our concerns, especially up the middle. Ok, you can name 3 that D cost us. I don't doubt that you can, and I'm sure they were all legit. However, about 10 come to mind right off the top of my head that lack of timely hitting cost us. Okay. Hawkins threw away the comeback line drive. That cost us one. Macias in CF against the Mets probably cost us the Zambrano Sunday night game, since the Mets ran on his "arm" at every opportunity. And that's aside from his routes to the ball. There's 2. Perez had a 2 error game in May, I think, that cost us a win. Barrett's botched rundown in Philly. There's 3. :P Isn't that 4? :? Apparently counting is not one of USSoccer's strong suits.
  13. um what does that even mean? :? it's probably better that i don't know. team chemistry seems bogus to me. Bradley would be a vast improvement over CPat, and preferable to lofton, IMO. i'd rather have bradley in CF b/c it would mean keeping Pie in the minors for 1-2 years. Pie is all hype so far and has many things to work on. Take "team chemistry", write it on a kleenex, and blow your nose on it. That's about what it's worth. The A's championship teams of the 70's would routinely get into fistfights in the locker room before and after games. It didn't seem to affect winning that much.

My point was that the lack of timely hitting cost us more games than lack of defense. But I know you got my point and were just being a smart aleck. :p
  15. What would payroll be if that trade went down? And I wonder where Corey would go.

  17. I wish the Cubs would have gotten permission to talk to him. Why can't they? And why would the Braves risk losing arguably the best pitching coach ever?
  18. At least George is throwing money at the right personnel this time.
  19. Congrats to them, and I'll be rooting for them to win if they play the Cardinals. But if they play Houston, it doesn't really matter to me who wins. But if the White Sox do win, I hope Jim Hendry and Dusty Baker are forced to attend the parade down Michigan Avenue. And I hope it hurts like hell.
  20. Get it in tonight or early tomorrow and I'll let it slide in. Got it in! Please let me know if you recieved it. Thank you once again for creating my #1 timewaster and being so awesome!
  21. YAY!!! GO ASTROS!!! I don't like playing the Astros, but I respect them. I hope they win. I HATE the Cardinals and nothing would make me happier than to see them punked in 5 games.
  22. :( Missed the deadline. Dang.
  23. Don't sweat it, guys. Remember what happened to the last Chicago team up 3-1 in an LCS.
  24. What a fool. It's an absolute no-lose situation and he's passing it up.
  25. Mike_Aller might know. He's the resident Indians fan.
