  1. Hoops, You say M Giles may have ticked off management in Atlanta, but what do your sources say about the Cubs possibly being interested and offering Walker in a deal?
  2. I'm beginning to think that that is what is going to happen too. Damon will go to the Yankees or Angels. Beltran will become Boston's CF. Cliff Floyd coming here. So you're ok with a Murton, Wilkerson and Floyd OF? Yes. Though if you can sign Giles, you can use Murton as your 4th OF. Then you have something to really get excited about. Giles-Wilkerson-Floyd would be excellent. 'Course, getting Giles, Wilkerson and Floyd is a pipe dream... I think any one of those guys is a pipe dream. I really don't see Hendry pulling off a "big" signing this winter. I really don't.
  3. Was Clemens wild? Not like him at all to give up 5 runs in 3 innings.
  4. Kind of O/T, but I don't see why they don't sell the ivy. I'm not talking ripping it down and selling it off piece by piece, but sell little vines that people can take home and grow themselves. I would totally pay whatever they wanted for my own little Wrigley vine that I could grow.
  5. I'm beginning to think that that is what is going to happen too. Damon will go to the Yankees or Angels. Beltran will become Boston's CF. Cliff Floyd coming here. So you're ok with a Murton, Wilkerson and Floyd OF? That would be an improvement over what we had this year. Murton > Hollandsworth/Lawton/Dubois/Hairston Wilkerson > Patterson/Hairston/Macias Floyd > Burnitz Would it be enough? That would depend on how well our infield produces. As Raw said it would be ugly on D. Furcal Wilkerson Lee Floyd ARam Murton Barrett Cedeno Insert Manny for Floyd if he is the one aquired. Interesting lineup. With that lineup, assuming Manny is in there, I think the bats will make up for the lack of D.
  6. Trading for Manny would be more difficult than trading for Abreu, though. We don't have the ML impact talent to trade for him, and unless you want to give up Pie and Pinto, it'd be hard to swing a 3 way deal. The more of his salary we eat I'm sure the less we'd have to give up. I'm sure Boston at this point would just love to be rid of him and out from under that contract.
  7. Exactly. That's putting all your eggs in one basket. If you don't sign Furcal, then you could really be screwed. Re-sign Nomar if he'll come back for low base/high incentive deal with Cedeno as backup. Nomar can play third, Cedeno can back up SS and 2nd. Sign Branyan and you have yet another 3B backup and someone who can spell DLee every so often.
  8. I thought they did in the Chicago market. No? Oh, that's right, they did. My bad.
  9. How come they never showed the Cubs games on WGN when they were in the playoffs in 2003?
  10. Even so - with current state of legal america (Patriot Act, DMCA, etc) i wouldn't even joke about stuff like this. Because if you steal bricks, you're a terrorist!! Yeah, this woudln't be a good idea at all. But it's fun to play around.
  11. televisionwithoutpity.com or TWoP for short, routinely has "death pools" in thier show forums. The one for "24" is primarily a place to discuss those who had died. I don't think that would be a good idea here. The injury thread was a jinx. I want no part of an "injury pool."
  12. Except for Colon suffering from Kerrywooditis (one bad inning), he pitched quite well.
  13. But do you think it could snowball? Cubs fans grow tired of Sox fans and thier incessant gloating, put more pressure on the franchise to field a winner.
  14. Make sure you have a quick as hell escape plan.
  15. Dammit, all 3 games turned out the wrong way for me today.
  16. But, as I've said before, I am NOT in favor of improving the defense if it means our already pathetic offense takes a hit.
  17. Colon struggling a bit. Come on, get out of the inning and you'll be fine.
  18. Theo Epstien was really young when he got the Red Sox job. Worked out OK for them.
  19. Now that would rock. UMFan could grab as many as he could, and ship some off to Tim and he could put them up for auction to raise money for the site. Or, Tim could get them his dang self. Seriously, though, I'm sure that the Cubs wouldn't like that and sic thier flying monkey lawyers on Tim and this site.
  20. If you get arrested all those who want a brick ought to pay your bail money as well.
  21. Easy...Tony LaRussa pinch ran for Ron Santo, Opening day 1973 Kasey Well fine. Crap all over everything I try to do. :p But anyway, kind of odd that TLR was a former Cub.
  22. Here's one... Which current MLB manager made exactly one career appearance for the Cubs during his playing career?
  23. I actually agree with Derwood. He's exactly right that fans would say "Well, the Red Sox and White Sox haven't won in forever, either." If the White Sox win, you take away yet another excuse for complacency and crappiness. Maybe the White Sox parading the World Series trophy through the streets of downtown Chicago would be the kick in the ass this franchise needs.
