  1. Sammy either way, because my man love for Sammy will never, ever die.
  2. You can buy a "Yankees 2005 AL East Champions" shirt on MLB.com http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0927051yankees1.html
  3. Pie is a year away yet. At least.
  4. The Cubs won in 98. I think Sosa should have been dealt in 2000. The broken down players is what the Cubs do. They look for bargins to go with their superstar marquee players. I want a team of good players not one superstar to bring in the sheep. If the Cubs actually decided to go after good players to go with with Lee then yeah...I agree with you but history has shown they do not. Do you remember the trade proposals the Yankees gave us for Sammy? A bunch of crap for the #1 slugger in the game. Wonder why we didn't take that.
  5. I don't know much about Chad Tracy. He wouldn't be terrible, I guess. Dusty would love him. I've always liked Webb. Prior, Z, Webb would be a pretty darn good 1-2-3. Get a healthy Kerry Wood in there (if he can stay healthy) and that's a damn solid rotation. Williams would be a pretty good #5. It would be hard to trade D-Lee though. And it would be hard to see D-Lee kill us 6 games a year seeing as the Dbacks always outscore us like 30-5 in a 3-games series.
  6. Hendry ought to be at least considering this, and hammering out proposals for when he calls Schuerholtz. Hendry NEEDS to pick up Walkers option. He can at least deal him if he decides that Walker isn't in the Cubs plans for 2006. There is no reason whatsoever to not pick up that option. I think Lee is an untouchable right now. Dealing fan favorites who are probably the best hitter on the team (at least at the time) is always a very tricky proposal. And like someone said, Hendry would have to net Abreu or someone like that to deal Lee. I very much doubt the average fan would accept a Lee deal for prospects, even if you could nab Quentin or someone like that. While this board would be absolutey beside themselves with glee if we traded Lee to Arizona for Quentin or the other guy (I forget his name right now), most fans would rebel and roast Hendry. Usually, immediate results are needed for the public to accept a trade of such a superstar, unless such superstar is hated.
  7. 4-2 the rest of the way equals a .500 season.
  8. If the Cubs pick up all of Jones contract I wonder what the Braves would ask in return. Gotta figure the Cubs could get him at a discount, as they're doing ATL a favor. Atl's putting quite a bit of money into A. Jones, Hampton, Hudson and Smoltz right?? And Farns should get a good payday too. Am guessing Murton and Walker would be on their way to ATL. Not sure who else though. Perhaps one of the young relievers?? If we pick up all of Chipper's contract, I want to hang on to Murton. Call me crazy, but I think he can put up similar numbers to Mark Grace.
  9. I too am a big Walker guy, but if you can trade him to Atlanta with Patterson for Giles, do it.
  10. I-Rod is washed up and I want no part of him. Of course, he goes up there hacking, dude. Dusty'd bat him 3rd, man. And Floyd doesn't thrill me. I think we can do a lot better. Go big. Go after Giles, or even Damon. Then if you don't get either one, THEN get Floyd. But he shouldn't be target #1.
  11. I think he could be had at 2 years, $10 million. A reasonable price. And I think he should have the closers job until he proves he can't do it anymore. Who cares if he's not "dominant." He gets results, and that's the only thing that matters. What would it say to your players, or any potential FA's to pretty much say to Dempster that "yeah, you did good and gave us no reasons to doubt you, but we're replacing you anyway." Kind of a crappy way to reward someone for a great performance.
  12. Giles is very realistic. If the Cubs went with Walker (2.5) at 2nd and Nomar at SS (5-6 + incentives) the money will be there to pursue Giles. We went with Walker and Nomar at 2B and SS this year. That didn't work out so well for us. The only difference between this year's approach and next year's approach is that we can conceivably count on Cedeno if Nomar gets hurt. We do have money (from a lack of Sosa) to spend on the OF, but really, counting on Nomar to be healthy for a full season has a low probability of becoming reality. If we resign Nomar, it had better be at a very low base (2-4M) and high incremented PA incentive laden deal. If he does go down, we have Cedeno in the wings and money to throw away via trade mid-season. I love Nomar, but we'd better have several backup plans for SS if he stays on the team. They could have backups in Hairston and Cedeno, but my guess is that some of the pitchers are grumbling about the d. Am guessing that Zambrano's doing the most of it. Since they want to keep the pitchers happy and keep them around for a while, they'll probably tweak the d some, which probably means no more Walker and Nomar up the middle. Can see Barrett being gone too. Well then they had better get the damn bats to replace Walker, Nomar, and Barrett. Because if you think our offense sucks NOW...... I don't think the offense sucks now, but the front of the order needs to improve. Can't have Neifi and Burnitz batting 2nd and 4th again. If you get rid of Nomar, Walker, and Barrett in favor of better defense but lesser bats, this offense most definately will suck. Hardcore.
  13. Giles is very realistic. If the Cubs went with Walker (2.5) at 2nd and Nomar at SS (5-6 + incentives) the money will be there to pursue Giles. 14. Not a Howry fan? I've heard that Cleveland wants to keep Howry as their closer next year, so he may never become available. Then maybe Wickman can be had.
  15. As someone brought up a few months ago, he should probably go to Japan. He's still a bona-fide celebrity over there and a Japanese team would probably pay him more than any MLB team.
  16. "Soft" .300 is still .300 I swear, sometimes nothing will please people. Give me a "soft" .300 over a "hard" .260 any day. And his D is not that bad. Sheesh. If you have a bunch of gold glovers on a team, but they cant hit for crap, I guarantee you we'd be competing with the Royals for the top draft pick.
  17. Note to Jim Hendry and a bunch of other people.... IMPROVE THE OFFENSE FIRST BEFORE WORRYING ABOUT THE DEFENSE!! YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WIN A G---D THING IF YOU HAVE 9 GOLD GLOVERS BUT DON'T SCORE ANY RUNS!!!! WORRY ABOUT PEOPLE WHO WILL DRAW WALKS AND GET ON BASE BEFORE GETTING RID OF PEOPLE WITH SLIGHTLY BELOW AVERAGE DEFENSE WHO CAN HIT!!! GAAHHHH!!! *hyperventilates* *goes to his happy place*
  18. That says they're not looking to resign Nomar OR Walker. *sighs and points to sig* Nomar I could maybe, MAYBE see. But if Hendry doesn't pick up Walker's option, he should be (comment censored due to NSBB's rules against expressing a desire for someone to be dragged out into the street and shot) But, IMO, the starting infield ought to be Aram, Nomar (or Furcal only if you can't resign Nomar, or failing both, Cedeno), Walker, and Lee on opening day 2006.
  19. Hell, it took a lot less than a failed drug test for some people to convict Sammy of every offense under the sun. After reading opinions on this board, everywhere else on the internet, seeing them on TV, reading them in the paper, etc., let me just say I am damed glad that trials aren't held in the court of public opinion.
  20. Yeah, twice. Where's ManEatingTarp when you need him?
  21. Good AB by Murton there to draw the walk. No reason he shouldn't be given a chance at the everyday starting job in 2006.
  22. Come on, guys. Beat the Astros so the Phillies can (hopefully) tie them tonight. Since this season is over, the Phillies are my team in the NL.
  23. Go Cubs and go Philles!! I'd like to see the Cubs play WC spoiler and the Phils to sneak in.
  24. It usually doesn't come out till a month or so after the World Series ends.
