  1. What would he cost, approximately?
  2. I want the WC to come out of the Central and the Red Sox to win the division. As long as the Yankees are shut out of the playoffs, I don't care who wins.
  3. It goes in cycles. Not every decrease in power is a direct result of no steriods. In a few years when it swings up again, it won't be because everyone is on steroids again, either.
  4. That's not what I meant by my post. Not that I'm saying you're talking specifically about mine. Some new posters no doubt would be knowledgeable. However, for those who aren't, this site can provide a very good baseball education.
  5. I think the publicity will be good. If the workload gets to be too much for the mods to handle, I think there are a few posters here who would make very good mods. Trolls can be smacked around by Modzilla. Fans who come and may not be as intelligent as some of the posters here can certainly use it as a learning experience, and in time become valuable and insightful posters in thier own right. I think the good would far outweigh the bad for NSBB. And I cant wait till I become a premium member and help out a bit.
  6. NSBB should be Cubs GM by committee, with the top 38 posters each having 1 week. It should start in acending order. Oh lookie. I'm first!!
  7. Ptiching- 47.5 % Hitting: 47.5% Fielding: 5%
  8. Sad stat... of all players with 75 or more RBI, D Lee is 4th in number of appearances with nobody on base.
  9. I want to say Daniel Garabay, AAA pitcher. I could be wrong, though.
  10. Works for me. Get a few licks in on the Cards. 2 weeks left in the year. Go for it.
  11. I guess if Carpenter is going to have a bad game, today is the day to do it.
  12. Thatta boy, Z. Project me into the finals in my fantasy league.
  13. And he struck out on a pretty good pitch, too. That ball had some movement on it. A good AB for Murton. Woo, Corey!! Shut up, Carpenter. Prick.
  14. I'd root for the White Sox. Being all the way up here in Brewer Country, there aren't a lot of White Sox fans or haters. The Brewers and the Sox were starting to get a pretty fierce rivalry in the years before the Brewers moved to the NL (I seem to recall Hawk and Wimpy challenging Phil Garner to a fight, and a bench-clearing brawl somewhere in there). However, I really took no interest in that budding rivalry at the time. I'm not from Chicago, so I really have no utter dislike for the Sox. However, I hate the Cardinals and everything they represent. I'd definately be rooting for the Sox.
  15. I was thinking last night about what some realistic bench options could be for next year. I think Russell Branyan would look real good coming off the bench and spelling Lee or Aram for a day or two. He'd be a formidable power bat coming off the bench, although the only problem is that his K's will drive you batty. But, I've always loved a guy who can come off the bench and is a legit threat to homer, a la Glenallen Hill. Neifi and Macias should be gone. Macias shouldn't even be on a major league roster. Neifi, if used properly, would be a decent utility infielder, but with Dusty here he won't be used properly. Hairston can fill in at 2nd and the OF. Any other suggestions?
  16. I think it makes sense that people don't want to trade Barrett... Trading Lee now (even though I'd be against it) wouldn't be as big of a blow, becuase you can almost always find a big bat at 1B. How many other catchers in the game today can match Barretts offense? Maybe a handful. Blanco is a good backup catcher. If you have a game where you really need D at the catcher position, Blanco is the guy you want. But with the game on the line, who do you want at the plate? Today's "smart" baseball fan tends to overvalue defense, IMO, even sometimes to the point of sacrificing offense. D is important, yes, but not so important that you sub an Alex Gonzalez in for a Nomar (different position, I know, but you get my point).
  17. How serious are the D-Backs in this? Somewhat? Very? I'd like to know what the chances are of being rid of the scourge known as Johnnie B. Baker.
  18. A) The only place we could put him is the outfield. Catchers, not being the fastest guys on the team, sometimes have trouble in the OF catching up to balls. B) Tell me where you're going to find a better offensive catcher that is available and cheap as Barrett. C) Work on his D next spring training.
  19. I don't think Moorad is the sharpest knife in the drawer. I could see him bringing Dusty in. In fact, its the only scenerio that I've heard of that I think is remotely plausible to get Dusty out of Chicago. Let the trade talk of Dusty for Connor Jackson begin! Hell, I'd be satisfied if we got a bag of BP balls and a fungo bat in return.
  20. I don't hate the Dbacks, but if they can take Dusty off our hands, I hope he goes.
  21. Exactly. It would be another "Hey, this guy was great 4 years ago! Let's get him!" acquisition.
  22. No, no, no. The Cubs will tie the Astros for the Wild Card and lose in the 15th inning of Game 163. So how are they gonna do it? Walk in the winning run? Dramatic walkoff homer? My money is on at least one error being involved in the play. The bases would be loaded, the Cubs would be ahead by 1, and there would be a play that SHOULD be routine for the 3rd and final out that someone would screw up, and 2 runs would score to give the Astros the win.
  23. No, no, no. The Cubs will tie the Astros for the Wild Card and lose in the 15th inning of Game 163. That wouldn't shock me, either.
