  1. wait.....what? 3.20-3.50 ERA for wandy? i don't see that coming close to happening. that would be an amazing 4 starter sure would. i suppose pettitte is set to pitch 350 innings with an 0.85 era then

  3. I've seen numerous articles over the years where some of Maddux's more accomplished former teammates have stated he's helped them alot with various things, including pitches, pitching strategy, and even mechanics. One good example would be Tom Glavine. there are plenty of reports of this during his current tenure with the cubs, even. i think maddux would probably be a fine pitching coach. it seems like he wants to keep pitching after this year, though, i think.
  4. are you kidding me? he's played less games because HE WAS A BACKUP IN 2004. and last year he was injured by the carlos lee slide. your "facts" are severely flawed. and how are his age and "limited fielding ability" relevant here? they're factors cited in what? your post makes no sense.
  5. i thought he said he was retiring last year?
  6. past few years? he was signed as a backup for in 2004 - how on earth would that contribute to the team's evaluation? it sure seems like you're just saying the ONE freak injury last year with carlos lee has effected the two years walker has been a cub.
  7. oh man that article is awful i hope the first manager canned thing is right, though.
  8. i hope so.
  9. uh, the boston media certainly has a reason to misrepresent him. just like they do with every other player that's ever left the city. Juan was never really there... you've got to be kidding me. nice argument. the boston media is notoriously extremely critical of anyone who decides not to play in the BEST BASEBALL TOWN EVAR. taking anything they say seriously is a big mistake.

  11. after garland signed a 3 year deal? that would be awful, especially considering i don't think he can keep up the walk rate reduction he had last year.
  12. and which one of those numbers is heavily weighted by 2002 and 2003, 2 years that player has not come close to matching, even in one of the best hitter's ballparks in baseball? come on now. soriano has shown nothing but decline - walker is the more valuable player.
  13. you mean career backup tony graffanino who has never had more than 379 ABs in a season? tony graffanino, the guy who was below average defensively (-6 FRAA) at 2B last year? sure sounds great to me. i'd much rather have him over todd walker!
  14. Hmmm, that's classy. of course you're going to get biased information coming out of boston - his agent may have contacted the team for him.
  15. read carroll's blurb again. he said his mechanics are what kept him together for so long.
  16. this is what i was thinking.
  17. what an amazing shot awesome
  18. Roto reported that Baltimore could send Matos to Boston for Graffanino. That sounds good to me, especially if it means we get to keep Walker (and don't get stuck with Graffanino).
  19. but despite his backhanded comments about cedeno, neifi is? give me a break - walker has every right to be angry here.
  20. why do you keep using wins as a stat that a pitcher should have? for the most part, he can't control that. zambrano is an elite starter and to say otherwise shows ignorance of the facts. Z has elite ability. 1 elite pitcher then Maddux doesn't come close to making us a competitive ballclub. uh....wow. please show me where i said we were going to be competitive. without wood and prior, we're not going to be.
  21. They got lucky with Hermanson in the first place. I don't see how they could have gone into last season thinking he was going to be anything more than a league-average pitcher. I think the earlier comparison with Rusch is very accurate. For that matter, the Cubs got lucky with Dempster. At least Hermanson had a track record of late inning success coming into the season. a track record? he relieved for like half of 2004. that was the only experience he had in the "closer role." that's not a track record.
  22. hermanson was a random member of the staff who happened to pitch in the ninth inning. he had a nice shiny era, but he's nothing special. wood and prior are -- or at least they would be, in my opinion, if we hadn't already run them into the ground. Hermanson was acquired to be that team's closer, he wasn't someone who pitched in the 7th or 8th inning only to later work into the closer role. I think you just want to argue because my point was never to compare or add value to any individual pitcher's worth on the team. I merely made a point about a pitcher who was mishandled on the Sox staff. IMO, Phil Rogers only mentions points that support his argument. Obviously, Prior and Wood mean a lot more to the Cubs than Hermanson does to the White Sox (especially since they have Jenks as plan B). Next! wuertz was mishandled last year, which led to some problems later in the season (notice how ineffective he was for a while?) - so was chad fox. the fact of the matter is that these guys are not that important to a bullpen, so they weren't mentioned. the same goes for hermanson.

  24. their offense was ridiculous last year without griffey hitting out of his mind
