    I disagree - I think the three years is pretty **** bad. If it was, say, 3 years, $7 million, it would be better. Who in the hell would take Jacque Jones off our hands at 5+ million per year? nobody. i'd rather this be 1 year/16 million.

    Toronto denies ever offering it. And Toronto is: 1. In another country 2. About as far away from San Diego as you can get 3. American League 4. In a division with the Yankees and Red Sox maybe they deny it (though lots of teams do that after losing out on a free agent, especially because anyone else that wants to sign could ask for that money), but i don't see what anything else you said has to do with his comment that "[he] couldn't know" about anything regarding giles.

    signing giles would be admitting that there's something to the statistic of on-base percentage. hendry will never do that, he hates OBP, and will go out of his way to avoid players who have it. Who wouldn't want Giles? But I think its unfair to criticize Hendry for not signing Giles. Giles had no intentions of leaving the West Coast. He turned down bigger money elsewhere to stay in SD. according to who? Ummm..maybe Giles? Giles signed for 3/30 to stay in SD. Didn't Toronto offer him some big money? I know LA was in on him, but they are also a West Coast team. Giles has made no secret over the years as to his preference for playing on the West Coast. This isn't news. ummmm......are you in contact with him? because there was nothing out of the giles camp to indicate that any team had offered him more than 10 mil per. so unless you had some inside info, you couldn't know. several sources (including those in toronto) indicated that toronto offered 5/55.

    these obps are distributed evenly throughout the lineup. last year's cubs team did not have the same thing going on.

    are you sure he can opt out? I thought the mention of this is that he can demand a TRADE after '06 if he's traded during this offseason, as he's a player traded in the middle of a multi-year deal.

    What about Lowell? The Red Sox only picked up Lowell because they had to pick up his salary to get Beckett as part of the deal. I would expect Marte to get every chance to win the job with Lowell backing him up. What about Youkilis? 1b with petagine
