    Patterson was the starter when Dusty came in. Murton is not. Murton hasn't "earned Dusty's trust," either. He would have kept starting Hollandsworth against righties. if he wasn't traded away.

    Isn't Young abysmal on defense, too? As a SS yes, I thought he was avg. defensively as a 2B, although I haven't seen the stats. Is he really that bad? I know his fielding percentage at SS is around league average, but I honestly know nothing about what kind of range he has. As far as range, not as bad as putting a china cabinet out there, but it could be close. wow, i didn't realize this. 86 Rate2 this year, -20 RAA. that's pretty bad.

    I wouldn't say Murton is a given....remember, Johnnie B. is still here. Hollandsworth is gone. That's a plus.

    Yes, another Patterson thread, but I think this could be a legit discussion instead of just bashing the guy. Yeah, Paul Sullivan, too....but still. What would we be able to get from the Rangers? Is Mench a possibility? Apparently he's on the block (or is going to be). I can't imagine being able to trade Patterson straight up for him, but if it's CP and a low-level prospect, would it be worth it? What about stepping it up and trying for someone like Michael Young? To be honest, I don't know how high Texas is on Young, but he could certainly solve our problems at shortstop, especially if Nomar is going to want too much money (or Hendry doesn't want to bring him back). He fixed his home/away split problem this year, it appears: Home: .331/.386/.527 Away: .330/.384/.500 I know Texas had interest in Walker last year - maybe he could be a bargaining chip used to obtain Young (if Texas is willing to give him up, that is). We've got plenty of pitching in the minors, which is something the Rangers are always looking for, too...

    No, it'll be for 13.5 million. They will either pay him 13.5, or 3 million to buy out the contract. 3 million is sunk. it's 10.5 or 0.

    it wouldn't be. i'd be fine with this, as long as it meant neifi was as far away from this team as possible.

    both would be high quality signings, to be sure ;] especially al reyes, maybe he can bring us some of that ridiculous cardinal luck while he recovers from tj. or wickman can close because he's a proven closer with lots o' saves and thus he rulz.

    one thing about grudzielanek: if the cards want him back, he will have to be re-signed early. there's a clause in his contract that forbids the cards from offering him arbitration.

    this would be a terrible decision by mccourt, but it could end up being fantastic for cubs fans. if the new gm is stupid enough to pursue dusty, that would be amazing.
