  1. i agree with most of this, aside from the liking boston thing. they annoy me a lot. especially schilling. zip it.
  2. it's really a bad blow, isn't it? dusty was just about to stop starting neifi every day........oh wait.
  3. if someone pulls a bowden and neifi goes to another team, i will be ecstatic.
  4. Seems like it happens every year. lol next, i bet you're going to tell me that mark prior is injury prone because he got hit on the elbow by a ball, right? sounds like a real good argument to me....
  5. hahahaha, the last line is the best.
  6. calling drew a bust is ridiculous. the guy had a .932 OPS after an atrocious beginning to the season, then got hit in the hand. as if he could help that. come on, guys.
  7. dmitri young's $8m option for 2006 vested last night.
  8. I could easily see the Braves trading Andruw. They have some good young OFs. They could move Chipper or Marte to the OF. Of course, it would take a lot more than that trade to get Jones. They aren't in the position where they need to give him away to clear payroll. One very important fact to keep in mind: Atlanta REALLY starts paying for Mike Hampton in 2006. As part of that way 3-way deal a few years back, in 2005, the Braves are only paying $1.5M of his salary - Colorado is paying $2.5M and Florida is paying $8.5M. But in 2006, the Braves will pay Hampton $13.5M aka $12M jump. Florida owes him nothing starting in 2006, and Colorado owes him nothing starting in 2006 except for the $6M buyout in 2009. Even with Furcal off the books, the Braves do look a bit "ham-strung-ptom." the braves have been saving up money every year to pay for hampton starting in 2006.
  9. they said if he was the "starter," he'd be paid as one. that pretty much guarantees that he'll be given (not earn) all of his $1.5m in incentives. neifi already has 508 PAs, good enough for third highest total on the team (how's that for a sickening statistic?)
  10. dude, he can't just take the ball and glove out of neifi's hands.
  11. we were asked who we think should win, not who we think will.
  12. no murton and no cedeno? i'm not watching. i'll watch a movie instead.
  13. Contrary to popular belief, Neifi hasn't had a horrendous season. Sorry. contrary to your belief, a .300 obp is horrendous. 13th in ops amongst SS's and a very good glove = alright for $1 million. Baker should never bat him 1st or 2nd though. But keep whipping him. cedeno could easily put up the same numbers - and probably better ones - all at the league minimum. neifi is NOT making 1 million - being dusty's girlfriend has allowed him to earn all of his incentive, upping his contract to 2.5 million. not good at all.
  14. neifi is going to make $2.5m this year because of all the starts he's been given, right? wow, that's bad. real bad. i really hope someone pulls a bowden and gives him a multi-year deal.
  15. boy it sure would suck to have joe mauer behind the plate. or, man, mark teixeira at first base would just KILL this team. He never said that. He said our ROTATION would be weaker, not our overall TEAM. show me where he mentions that the rotation would be weaker. he says we'd have z and wood at the end, but the whole attitude of the post is that we "got lucky" to get prior and that if we didn't get him, we wouldn't have picked anyone like him. sorry to burst your bubble, but i think joe mauer and mark teixeira are pretty comparable players.
  16. mariotti, for the most part, is pretty bad - however, he does raise some points that need to be addressed in the media. i'm glad that SOMEONE brings dusty's ineptitude to the attention of the average fan, because nothing is going to get done if nobody does.
  17. boy it sure would suck to have joe mauer behind the plate. or, man, mark teixeira at first base would just KILL this team.
  18. dusty has done nothing wrong since he came to chicago - just ask him. he and his coaching staff can't screw up - obviously it's the fault of the rookies and inexperienced players, so we better get proven vets like neifi and macias out there, since they have "truer" throws from shortstop and can get you a sac fly when you're down 3 runs.
  19. he missed a sign  Dusty made sure to tell everyone why Neifi will start again today... http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cub06.html I love how Hairston had to be TOLD he missed a sign by the MEDIA, not Dusty. This is unacceptable of a manager - calling out his scapegoats in the media like this is absurd.
  20. tony la russa did look like a genius today, and it was at dusty baker's expense, because dusty baker is an ignoramus.
  21. If I remember correctly, Murton was actually supposed to go to the Twins. Him being on the Cubs apparently was an oversight by someone. This is how it went.. The prospect was supposed to go to the Expos but the GM at the time did not want Murton who was being thrown in by Epstein. Since that was the case Hendry sent BHarris to the Expos and we received Murton from the RSox instead. correct - minaya wanted 3 prospects for cabrera - he didn't want murton, so hendry basically traded harris for murton. the twins were supposed to get another prospect for mientkiewicz, but that was lost in the rush to get the paperwork done. i think hendry fixed this by signing blanco before the arbitration deadline, awarding the twins type c compensation.
  22. Contrary to popular belief, Neifi hasn't had a horrendous season. Sorry. contrary to your belief, a .300 obp is horrendous.
  23. many sources (including prospectus, iirc) have said that the indians should have demoted someone other than dubois. the trade for him was made while hafner was on the DL, and you're not going to find many rookies (if any) that are going to replace him.
