honestly, I'm more impressed with rammy's commitment and loyalty than wood's. and that's not meant to disparage wood. his decision to stay with the cubs and forgo a better deal was honorable and refreshing to see. But Rammy could have done worlds better, and he didn't even have the underlying guilt of kerry's regular DL stints. But he didn't even test the market, not even just to drive up the Cubs offer. kudos to both guys, though.

That's right, nobody likes 40 40 guys. we need walks. LOL In five years Alph will be 35 plus change. I agree with IMB. To be fair, Soriano is probably one of the most athletic, well conditioned guys in the game. It's not like we're talking about some unathletic guy who's always out of shape. Conversely, his loopy swing isn't likely to age well with declining bat speed. If we don't get drew, what options do we have to improve this team though?

I've read on another board that Kaplan also said that the Japanese team might think the BoSox offer is fishy (blocking another team or something), and might take the 2nd highest bid, which he said the Cubs would stand much more of a chance then. Did he mention this? 24 still wouldn't beat Texas or NY, but it gives us a little more hope. i don't think that's possible.

That FSU/ND game was close to being a tie in the waning moments. Hardly an easy win for ND. KSU at KU this week. After seeing them beat UT, I don't like our chances. Hopefully they'll let down.

the most messed up thing is now I don't want them to win the Matsuzaka so Hendry can't hide this behind his posting victory. I'm operating on 100% spite right now.

I was going to write a long angry rant, but I just don't have it in me. Hendry has failed. And he'll continue to fail because he's not good at his job. He's in in over his head, and he always has been. And now he and McDonough are going to force feed some BS marketing on the fans and convince a lot of them everything's great because that's easier than assembling a good team. That's easier than having a clear, effective plan regarding player acquisition and adhering to it. That's easier than investing a lot of money in good players. Yep, we're going to hear the same tired song--"we made a competitive offer, and it was rejected," followed by a lengthy smear campaign RE: ARam's hustle. And then we're gonna seem some Shane Andrews 2.0 plugged into 3B, and they're going to talk about the great year he had at XXXX, even though it was really a mediocre year, but if you look at one stat, ONE SPECIFIC STAT--maybe it's avg. this time, maybe it's RBIs, whatever--it doesn't look that bad. But anyone who scrutinizes it all will realize this Ron Coomer/Steve Buechelle hybrid they're gonna drag off the scrap heap sucks, just like the team, just like the organization, just like the people who run it.

what's next season's FA class looking like? If this is true, hendry might as well lock up Z and bank the rest of the cash for his successor.

Honestly? I hope he spends a lot of money signing a lot of mediocre players to short-term contracts. Well, given his track record, that's a pretty realistic dream.
