  1. i've heard that story. doesn't mean he was using it for anyhing bad. and even if it did, it could be for lots of things--cocaine, prostitutes, whatever. hope that cheered you up.
  2. That is some much needed good news. I wish Bruce would mysteriously come and post that the Cubs and aramis are this close <-> great early news. get it done!
  3. KU vs. a decent Northern Arizona, a decent mid-major, in 10 min.
  4. ^i'd be very surprised if no makes a hendry weight joke now.
  5. anything that keeps nd out of the NC is fine by me.
  6. I recall a month ago when I created a post that said that a Tribune exec. was 99.9% sure the Cubs would be sold before the start of the 2007 season began and was ripped apart as a liar and chastized as a "troller." My post doesn't look so bad anymore does it Giles Bros. and Vince the Cub Fan. The fact that I knew of the impending sale of the Tribune's assets before it was made public was legitimate. Anyway, here is an update from the same source: About 2 weeks ago the Tribune started taking bids on all of their assets from potential investors to gauge the demand/value of each asset. The bidding was to last for 2 weeks and then they were going to have a meeting of the top exec's and make a decision before they presented it to the board of directors at the monthly meeting. This all should happen quickly, oncew the decision is made to sell off the assets and go back to its core competencies because the bidders are already out there. yeah, that vince is a real jerk sometimes you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone on this board who likes Vince the Cub Fan.
  7. This board is gonna meltdown when we find out the Cubs posted 25 million for the rights to sign Buster Olney.
  8. Wouldn't that be crazy if LA ended up with Aramis? Wow. If the Cubs ended up with Drew and ARod I would live. No H in the forehead for you. he never said that. gooney's got an amazing tolerance for hard-core drugs.
  9. those are soundbytes, and i almost never hold a player accountable for that. What's he supposed to say? "Thank God I got this opt-out just in case the team sucks and I can blow this dump of a town"? He negotiated the opt-out. People asked him about it. He gave the right PR answer. Nothing to see here.
  10. we play you guys this year, and with mejia, chandler, and the way the team gelled at the end if the season last year, I'm expecting a tough game.
  11. Why? If they were expecting $20m when they decided to post him, but only got $13m (for example), then they might feel the need to debate whether it's worth it. They might be desperate enough for cash to accept, but they aren't going to jump at it immediately. it could also be posturing for future postings. If they look like they won't take just any bid--that there's a real chance they'll reject it if it's not up to expectations-- teams might be inclined to up their bids should seibu post players in the fiture
  12. i wonder if posting this poll in the midst of the diasuke fervor influenced the results at all.
  13. i'm trying to do work, and it's very difficult right now.
  14. who do you want and why? EDIT: Daisuke's numbers, obviously, were accumulated in Japan. Sorry, forgot to put the asterisk.
  15. certainly wouldn't be the first time the cubs made me do that.
  16. don't like "d-backs". do like the snake.
  17. if they're thinking roberts in CF, that rules out soriano at cf. so that means they're either: a. going after Soriano for 2B. b. going to replace one of our exisiting corner OF guys with a guy w/ pop (prolly Murton) c. pursuing pop via trade at SS (arod? tejada?) d. not going after another big bat. am i missing anything here? Options a & c I could totally live with. b i'd be unhappy about, unless it's jones; d is unacceptable.
  18. Jim Rome just made a funny comment on the hiring. He was basically debating the Padres position and had this to say: "Hmm, let's see... should we hire Bud Black or bring in Dusty Baker to shred Peavy's arm with pitch counts of 140 every outing?" Hammer, meet nail. did he follow that up with 30 seconds of silence, which was then followed by him saying the exact same thing but worded slightly differently, which was followed by 30 more seconds of silence? Epic.
  19. Lou wasn't my first choice, but so far I really like this coaching staff, though the grim spectre of rothschild looming over our staff still makes me uneasy.
  20. I think any school that even considered hiring Huggins should've ben cited for lack of institutional control.
  21. Ha, what an idiot. He was just told no more too. Does he not want to succeed in life or what? How fast does Huggins call him? Hilarious. I don't know what's wrong with him. The saddest thing is, his dad moved to Lawrence to be close to him, but that sure hasn't helped keep him in line. This kid had/has NBA written all over him, and while he still could make it, it'll be harder if he doesn't prove himself in college. And while your huggins statement was probably most in jest, I'm sure he'll get a shot somewhere. At this point, though, he's just an embarrassment, and I'd be real surprised if he ever pulled his act together.
  22. CJ Giles, our back-up (but probably most athletically gifted) center was reinstated to the team Friday, though he was suspended for the first semester. All of this was due to a pattern of irresponsible behavior that included bad grades, missing practice, and not paying child support. Last night he was cited for a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend. That's three days after being given his "last chance." Per KC radio, he has been re-dismissed from the team, permanently. Good riddance.
  23. Holy cross is tradtionally a tough 1st round out, aren't they? FSU has some talent. Al Thornton, Isaiah Swann, Jason Rich. I think they've got a kid coming in from AUburn, too, and a talented Frosh pg. They could be decent. They just have to be more consistent.
  24. I prefer keeping Zambrano, Prior, and Aramis, and signing Iwamura for 2B/SS/CF while signing Matsuzaka to be the #2 starter. Can we afford Soriano, Matsazuka, ARAM, and Iwamura? Because if we can, and if we get those guys, we'd have a lot of options. I'd probably go Murton LF Iwamura SS Lee 1B Aram 3B Soriano 2B Barrett C Jones RF Pie CF But if you're worried about Soriano's IF Defense, you could put Soriano in CF and Iwamura + Cedeno/Theriot could fill the middle IF.
