  1. if we play like we have been? me, you, and three guys from the rec center have a shot. To be honest, observers who i trust were underwhelmed by Walker in his first game (against what was described as "the least athletic team in college hoops".) But it was his FIRST game, and I excpect him to be a matchup problem for every team you face. Anyway, to answer your questgion, of course you could beat us this year. You beat us last year, and you had less talent. But I think we'll win both games, only because we'll come out pretty jacked up for both. We play down to our competition, but I think you're seen as a threat, and you'll be taken seriously. So my prediction is we'll win both games, but if we do lose, it will be at AFH again. I think the Bramlage streak continues for another year or two.* *I reserve the right to amend this opinion based on our next game or two. I think those performances will be very telling as to how good this KU team will be.
  2. I think it would be a good win and a bit of validation for their hot start for Mizzou, but embarrassing for U of I? It's a rivalry game, and Mizzou has only one loss and already dusted a decent-at-least Arkansas team. And like I said earlier in this thread, Snyder always was a decent recruiter, Mizzou's roster consists of several recruits who were well regarded nationally. Is it to the level of Illinois, who has been at the top of the B10 for a while? No, but it's a rivalry game on a neutral floor, and as such I don't think it's a disgrace to lose the game. with the way UI fans have run their mouths RE: KU the last 4 years, I don't know who to root for. On the one hand, it's Mizzou, and I hate rooting for Mizzou. But it would be nice for the Big XII to get a nice noncon scalp, and it would be hilarious to see the Illini freak out over the loss. Plus, I'd like Mizzou to feel nice and confident coming into the KU games. There. I talked myself into it. [bathing in lye]Go Mizzou.[/bathing in lye]
  3. wouldn't he at most only be a year or two older than kirk?
  4. I love the idea of Joe Morgan referencing Ptolemy in a baseball discussion. I love even more the idea of Ptolemy XIII being our closer, especially if he looks like the little fat kid who played him in "Rome."
  5. I believe Les is a KU grad.
  6. Exactly. It's not their fault. That would imply that this was a mistake or accidental. This was their plan all along. They'd sign him if by some off-chance he took a very reasonable deal, but in reality their intent was just to keep the Yanks from getting him. This is a guy who has had hopesand dreams of performing in the majors since he was a kid, and now he got jerked around just so the Red Sox could play a stupid game to prevent their rivals from getting him. I REALLY wanted Matsuzaka to play this year. I was looking forward to it, I didn't care which team it was for. The guy got his hopes up and now they're gonna be crushed. How would you feel if your dream as to come play here and you find out that the Boston Red Sox bid $51 million for your rights first and foremost. 1) It'd give you great expectations that people take you seriously 2) You'd realize that you'd arrived in the majors, cause if someone wants you THAT bad, you're getting in. Nope, sorry, we're gonna short change you, take it or go back to Japan. IN YOUR FACE, NEW YORK! This really pisses me off, I used to have a little respect for the Red Sox, this just makes me completely hate them. I really hope the Sox make me eat my words and sign him before his deadline is up, he doesn't deserve to be shut out like this. God knows what it could do to his mental state. What if some of the Japanese fans don't welcome him back with open arms. He did just try and put Japan on the backburners for bigger and better things, and a lot of them were upset he's leaving, now he's gotta walk back in like nothing happened. Sorry, I just feel for the guy. Really wish/hope he gets signed. maybe thats just me though It's hard to feel real sorry for a guy who might turn down 8 mil/yr to fulfill his dream. That's plenty of money. If he really wants to play, take the money and suit up.
  7. Jim just needs to eat Subway a little more often and get an elliptical crosstrainer in his office. He's clearly not been taking care of himself; hopefully he will now.
  8. i think hendry is comfy with Izzy at SS, but I also think he'd be willing to upgrade if an opportunity arose. I just don't know how actively he's looking. JMO.
  9. There's no point in throwing tons of money at lilly if you can get Hudson at a fair deal. Then it equates to throwing lots of money at a guy who's been good (hudson) vs. throwing money at a guy who's never been any good. I'd take my chances w/ udson.
  10. You know what they say...desperate times call for desperate measures... it's remiscient of how Jones was the worst possible signing, and people were describing him as untradeable, and now many are reluctant to let him go for fear of the effect it will have on our Offense.
  11. Well, of the remaining guys, I'll take Soup, but remember back in October, when we all thought we might land Mats or schmidt, and we were laughing at the team that would overpay for Suppan's lights-out postseason? Now we're clamoring for him. Weird how things change.
  12. Jones, Eyre and one of Marmol, Mateo, Marshall, etc. for Penny. I'd totally do that. Would LA?
  13. Then they're bad businessmen. The LA times is a horrible business opportunity as a stand alone product. There is little growth potential in print media. yeah, i'm sure those 2 billionaires are bad businessmen. Or you are mistaken. I can't find the article that orginally said they'd spin the other asstes, but this was in the original AP report. http://www.examiner.com/a-388360~L_A__Billionaires_Bid_to_Buy_Tribune_Co_.html
  14. we're just not a very god team right now. Self better get his head out of his ---.

  16. Honestly, is there a more tired, unfunny joke than the faux-Merker love? I can't think of one. Maybe a Monica Lewinsky joke? The airplane black box joke?
  17. This thread is so early 2006. And 2005. And 2004. And every other month in between.
  18. he kind of looks like steve lyons, if lyons' face was imploding.
  19. The impression I got from that bit was that he would only buy the Cubs from whoever bought the entire Tribune Co. Smart decision on his part to look into that option, since it seems the Tribune will be sold as one big chunk. So look for Cuban to attempt to buy the Cubs from whoever buys the whole Trib Co. The problem with that idea is that the Cubs are the only asset that generates significanlty more income than it costs to prodiuce the product. That's why the Tribune Company wants to sell the Cubs with the Trib. It's like making a team take a bad contract for getting a good player. The team will not sell the good player without the other team taking back the bad contract. I cannot see whomever buys the trib selling the Cubs. They are a cash cow. The rest is just a loss leader. It's Walmart 101. well, those la billionaires have already stated they'd spin the rest of the assets (inlcuding the cubs) and just keep the times. I think Cuban could get it done. And I bet his ego loves the fact so many Cubs fans view him as "the savior."
  20. i wonder if schmidt likes him. here's a scenario: what if signing bonds would prevent us from acquiring schmidt (because of personal, not financial reasons). Which would you prefer? Chalk me up for schmidt, though I'd love to see barry in cubbie blue.
  21. Yeah, misunderstanding a question and answering it wrong on ESPN due to his language won't get him nailed for perjury. Yeah, i don't really get the criticism for his having an interpreter during a congressional investigation Of course Sosa speaks English, and fairly well. But it IS his second language, and his understanding IS limited. Why do you think we heard the same five phrases from him during his tenure here (gladiator, my house, berry berry good to me, et al.)? Anyone here in a similar situation--one with potentially serious legal remifications--would do the same thing. I know if I lived in Spain for 16 years, I'd still want a translator if i was in court.
  22. ku is garbage. that is all.
  23. what's going on in the game? can't watch Well, it *was* a close game. But Mizzou forced a lot of turnovers and Arkansas committed a bunch of unforced ones, took bad shots, and went about 6 minutes without scoring, so Mizzou leads 44-28 at the half. that's pretty surprising. outside of hannah, i think mizzou's talent is pretty subpar.
