Rotoworld via WaPost speculates it was once Cedeno for Wilkerson, pre-Furcal signing, now it might be Williams for Wilkerson. I'd do that.

me too!

I don't know that I would so readily, since I'd want an assurance that Baker would bat him 1st and not 6th.

Williams, IMO, could be used in a much bigger deal. He's worth more than Wilkerson.

Brad Wilkerson - OF - Nationals

The Cubs are among the teams looking at acquiring Brad Wilkerson, who is considered expendable in Washington.

The rumored Wilkerson-for-Ronny Cedeno deal never seemed likely, and if it did interest the Cubs, it likely won't now that Rafael Furcal has chosen the Dodgers. The Cubs do have Jerome Williams and some other pitching they could use to try to acquire Wilkerson. The Nationals are looking for a center fielder, but it's unclear if Corey Patterson is of any interest to GM Jim Bowden. Wilkerson is also involved in the Javier Vazquez rumors with the Diamondbacks. Bagging Wilkerson will be worth losing out on Furcal. If they bring him over to play CF, that would alleviate my fears of them overpaying for Pierre. FL will want more for Pierre than Washington will want for Wilkerson, but Wilkerson is the better player. Hopefully the Yanks step up and complete the deal for Pierre before Hendry makes a bad move.

I would do Wilkerson for Williams in a heartbeat and not think twice about it.

I'd then turn around and make an offer for either Bradley or Pierre and call it an offseason.

I'd try to make both deals without including Walker.

Either this line-up:

Pierre

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Wilkerson

Murton

Barrett

Cedeno/Perez

or

Wilkerson

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Bradley

Murton

Barrett

Cedeno/Perez

would not be too bad.

Reading the Washington Post article on Jim Bowden's choices for the Winter Meetings reminded me that Scott Boras is Wilkerson's agent. That could be considered good news because Hendry and Boras seem to work well together.

If I'm Jim Hendry, I do NOT give up on trading for Bobby Abreu until the door is slammed in my face. Pie, Hill, Guzman, who do you want, Pat??

Wilkerson is a CF option for me, not RF. I don't want Bradley in RF, he's not nearly as valuable there.

Must. Get. Abreu. Repeat after me.

Where does Hendry throw away all that money if he gets Wilkerson and Bradley? You know he has to spend it or people will riot.

A raise for Macias?

do you spend money on another starter in those scenarios? I would.

Wilkerson and Bradley would be nice. I think we really need to try and acquire Bradley from the Dodgers.

Extensions for Lee, Prior, and Zambrano. Use the extra money to pay them more now so they'll accept a little less down the road.

If you get Wilkerson, then go after Bradley and Abreu If you get 2 of the 3, then you can use Murton to help get you the third.

I have to agree with Don here. Wilkerson and Bradley could be a fallback but the Cubs ought to try and do better than that. Wilkerson and Pierre would be very disappointing.

I like Wilkerson also - if my memory serves me didn't he play all year with some kind of injury that caused his #'s to be down a little? Edited by cjbucks

Just a thought: if the Cubs want to acquire Wilkerson, then Hendry needs to probably insert himself into a 3-way deal with Washington and Arizona, such that Vazquez is moved to Washington, and perhaps Corey and a pitching prospect is moved to Arizona. In addition, Arizona may require a team to take a bad contract off their hands as the price for dealing Vazquez. If it wasn't for his limited no trade clause, Shawn Green would be a nice addition in RF with Wilkerson in CF. Would you take a chance on Luis Gonzalez in LF and Murton in RF?

Definitely. I'm just saying that trying for Abreu shouldn't preclude you from continuing to upgrade the OF. Ideally we'd use Murton in an Abreu trade in place of Pie after trading for both Wilkerson and Bradley.

Vazquez looks like a good ticket to get Abreu with the Cubs dealing prospects and money. Someone else needs to put the details together - what would Arizona want?

I though Philly was on his no trade list. Could be wrong.

I thought he just wanted to go east. It seems odd that you can demand a trade and then refuse to go.

That is correct.

It appears that if Javier Vazquez is traded by the Diamondbacks, it won't be to the Phillies, Rangers or Mariners.

An industry source told MLB.com that those are three of the six teams on Vazquez's list of clubs to which he cannot be traded. While not revealing the rest of the teams, the source said Seattle is the only team west of Arizona to be included on the list.
