Mentioned by Jason Stark on ESPN Sportscenter. The Giants would then try and sign Matt Morris. Edited by E.J.

The edit function doesn't seem to be working. The Giants and Phillies have talked about a Abreu for Jason Schmidt swap. The Giants would then try to sign Matt Morris to replace Scmidt in the rotation.

Yeah, we're not getting Abreu for Pie and some other minor leaguers. Front of the rotation starter, hmmm.

No way I give up Z or Prior. Wood's NTC complicates trading him, but I doubt Philly would take him even if he waived it (unlikely).

Wouldn't Jerome Williams classify as a front of the rotation starter for the Phillies? :D

Jerome and Pie might merit consideration, but we'd probably have to sweeten the pot beyond that.

Nobody has pointed out that this trade would give SF a Bonds/Abreu/Alou OF, while easily the most productive offensively, it would be sickening to watch defensively. Abreu in CF in SBC would be hilarious.

We all thought that about Bonds/Grissom/Alou, but then Bonds got hurt, and Moises deprived us of the high comedy of watching him patrol that giant CF.

Anyone catch the comments from Bonds on sportscenter that he wanted to lose 40 pounds before next season? I wonder what that is about...

That deal just doesn't seem like one Brian Sabean would make. Abreu makes more than Schmidt and they already have 5 quality OF; Bonds, Alou, Grissom, Winn, and Feliz. I could see them trading Schmidt for someone like Hank Blalock but definitely not another OF. This trade makes sense because they could then make a run at not only Morris but also another starting quality pitcher.

Yes, I know that Feliz plays third, but I've read on ESPN that they want to trade him.

Did Stark say where he got his information from?

Gammons?

He didn't say. Just said there have been talks. Didn't even say how serious the talks were.

Unless he's planning on another move involving one or two of thier other outfielders...
