Anthony Reyes and Jason Marquis to Philadelphia for Bobby Abreu and some cash. I have no idea who the source is or if it has any validity or not.

I do know that Marquis' (arbitration eligible and free agent after 2006) name and a prospect have been thrown around in a bunch of rumours lately involving Cincinnati (Griffey or Dunn) and Texas (Mench).

With the Winter Meetings less than a week away, things are beginning to heat up on the trade front.

I rip on Hendry for his FA actions, but he gets it done in the trade department. No worries.

A 79 win season last year leads me to believe Jim doesn't always get it done. I will worry about this team until he does something to drastically improve it.

I agree. I was just saying that Hendry is good when it comes to the trade front and horrible in the FA market. Those aren't the only two parts of putting together a winning team. I just wish Hendry would play to his strengths.

Why oh why do the Cards have to do this to us?

Same contact suggests that if the Cards do trade pitching for Abreu, they will also look seriously at signing Paul Byrd to a 2-year deal.

This makes no sense.

1) Why would the Phils trade Abreu?

2) They already lost Wagner, and Thome, they need to keep the impact bats.

3) Philly fans would kill management.

4) The pitching offered, is little to nothing in regards to high quality proven players.

5) They can do MUCH better then that for a trade.

That cash better have 7 zeros on the end of it... even then Philly gets hosed in the deal and would look to be sellar dwellars.

My good buddy works for the Cardinals and has said that there is a feeling of something going down today. Plus, he said that they did get a memo today to keep everything on the down low.

Living in Philly I can state that they will kill management no matter what they do.

Apparently Micheals is not going to get traded. They now have too many bodies in the outfield, especially with the trade for Rowland.

Believe it or not, philly fans HATE Abreu. They think he is lazy. Never mind that he is a 30/30 guy with a wicked OBA.

bobby A. could be had, trust me, for less than you might think. Phils also have a big payroll, a little smaller now that they have lost 1/2 of Thome.

I guess I should have introduced myself since this is my first post. I'm stuck down here in Cardinal country, unfortunately. Anyways, my friend is a scout working directly for the assistant GM. The point of my post was that there maybe something going on down at Busch today.

do you give much creedence to "a feeling that something is going down today?" anyway? He's not really trying to hook us into anything so why be suspicious?

Any talk of him coming to the Northsiders?

nope, but to me he'd be a great fit. he's just the kind of hitter who would thrive in Wrigley. And yes, he does go to sleep sometimes out in the OF in a way that reminds one SCARILY of a certain Mr. Sosa, but he's better than people (philly fans) at least give him credit for.

there is a better than 50/50 that Bobby A is moved. And I think you might be surprised at how reasonable the price might be.

Wasn't trying to be derogatory, that is why I probed with another question as to the source. Trust but verify. I love to read all the rumors and speculation, but I also like to know where they are coming from.
