Some 'morans' don't even know how to spell moron. And the funniest part is when they call out a GM in their avatar for being a 'moran' and have no idea how 'moronic' it looks.

Ease up on the personal attacks. It's just a difference of opinion.

No mine was an opinion. Then he called me a moron. So I threw it back at Mr. Intelligence.

You don't get it.

Me? No, apparently not.

It is an old joke on the board. There was a picture of a Cards fan holding a sign saying something to the effect, "Get a clue Morans!"

Since then moron has been spelled moran by a lot of people as a light hearted salute to that picture.

Fair enough. That's fine until he starts directing it at others. Which he did.

He's responding to someone calling JH a moran is their avatar. You may want to ease up on your hate for some of the Cubs.

Steve Stone coming up to talk baseball

In other words, Steve Stone coming up to here himself talk.

"Hey everyone, I know baseball, I want to be a GM... Look at me... I look good...real good"

Hmmm, sounds like many of the posters on here as well.

One thing that is worth considering as far as Pinto is concerned.

He has only one option year remaining.

No doubt someone will put me in the "will complain about anything" camp for this, but Hendry could almost certainly have got away with not protecting Pinto from the December 2003 Rule 5 draft...

there is absolutely no way we end up with Fural, Pierre AND Giles. We don't have that kinda money in our payroll, and the Gile's dreamers need to realize that he's obviously not on Hendry's radar at all.

Eliminate Eyre, Howry, Rusch and Neifi and there's plenty of cash for those three.

Which is the point we were making in the Howry thread that you fought against.

OK, I see your reasoning. But what would the bullpen be then? Pretty much the same as last year's? I'm not proclaiming Eyre and Howry to be saviors, but they improve the pen.

I'm not sure how much Furcal and Giles would help if the Cubs still had Novoa, Wuertz and Van Buren working meaningful innings late.

I don't "hate" any of the Cubs TBCF. I don't like some of them as players, and have criticism of moves, but I don't "hate" them.

Look, I just want everyone to get along. If you disagree with those of us that are critical of JH's decisions, or whatever, fine, that great, but let's debate that instead of talking about how we don't know what we're talking about. Likewise, there's no reason for any of "us" to call anyone a moron, or a moran, or a "Moran", unless your last name is Moran.

In any case, let's just chill. Let's agree to disagree. Or, let's have a constructive argument. :D

That's true, but if he hadn't done so and we had lost him, a la Sisco, they'd have been able to hear the hollering down in Pinto's native Venezuela.

Many act like Giles is dying to come here but the Cubs just aren't interested. He may have no interest in coming to Chicago, whether the Cubs have the money or not.

I agree, but there is a double standard on this board which allows attacks on certain members of the Cubs(JH,Neifi,Dusty,Macias, etc) & doesn't allow attacks on Sosa & Patterson.

Defending someone who calls JH a moran in their avatar is hating on the Cubs. Sorry, if you don't like it, but I call it the way I see it.

I will say this in every thread Giles hasn't signed anywhere yet, now that the Padres seem out we can see where he's serious about playing. Don't rush judgement we don't know the Cubs payroll the new seats, Ticket price hikes, Mlb revenue money and new rooftop could play factors sending the payroll in the 110-115 range instead of the reported 105.

Has Dunn been dealt? Abreu? Ramirez?

Well said. I think we should drop the "moran" or " moron" and the " if the Cubs do this or that I will never watch them again". I'm pretty sure neither of those lead to any constructive arguements. Disclaimer: Not pointing fingers at anyone in particular - just my opinion.

Has anybody heard anything else on the Pierre deal?

I would be very impressed if Hendry were able to get Pierre for a deal including Pinto and two lesser minor leaguers.

I don't think USSoccer was defending me. Actually he was telling me to chill out. he just got confused on who used "moran" first (ie me).

I haven't. I as well would be impressed. As much as people have critisized Hendry, me included, I think he is going into this off season with a plan, and he will not be stopped. He has vastly improved the pen, going hard after the 1 and 2 hitters, and like I have said all day long, I have a gut feeling that when its all over we will have one of either Manny, Abreu, or Dunn. With Furcal and Pierre at the top and then ARAM, Lee and 1 of those 3  wow

I believe you're forgetting so quickly WHO I was defending - I mentioned nothing about the Neifi or Rusch deals. I think the acquisitions of Eyre and Howry will prove to be important to our '06 season, and those two wouldn't be the difference maker for us overpaying for Furcal, Pierre AND Giles. Some of you folks on here just aren't very practical in your theories about us dumping all our cash on 2 players. This team has many more holes that need to be fixed than dumping half our cash on Giles.

Now, would I like to have Giles? YOU BETCHA!!

I'm just being practical and would like to see everything get addressed in the offseason.

So if we're spendnig nearly 8 million on two relievers, that helps us address the other issues how? I understand that you think they will be a help, but the issue is more of whether they're worth the expenditure when there are other areas that need help more (offense out of RF/CF/SS inparticular). And when you have someone like, say, Giles, who could raise the team's OBP by 15 points just by being in the lineup, that is, to me, a much more important and valuable way to spend money than nearly the same on two good-but-not-spectacular middle relievers in their 30's.
