Cold Pizza just said that it has been reported that Carlos Delgado was just traded to the Mets. As part of the deal the Marlins send 7 million cash. Players are for sale over there and the Cubs need to jump in and get Pierre and Castillo. That would get rid of the worry of overpaying for Furcal and give Hendry what he wants in two legitimate top of the order guys with speed. Also, it would improve the middle of the infield defense. Then we can target Giles as our go to man in FA which would make for one heck of a lineup

Pierre

Castillo

Lee

Giles

Ramirez

Barett

Murton

Cedeno

Looks good enough to me

I heard the same thing on Mike and Mike on my way to work this morning. Delgado to the Mutts for two players (names escape me) and $7 million.

Busy week for Omar.

It's hilarious that the Pierre deal supposedly stalled b/c the Marlins didn't know "what direction they were going in" ie if they were going to have a firesale or not. What's the delay? I'm not advocating getting Pierre, but I'd be interested to know what is keeping Hendry on the sidelines.

I'd take Pierre, Castillo and Giles as our offensive pickups of the postseason this year in a heartbeat....just don't think that will be happening, though. At best, one of those three may make it to the northside.

If we could get Pierre and Castillo in a trade, the fish could have their choice at any prospects in our system and I could care less.....

Here's an article about it. Looks like it's a done deal.

The Mets have reached an agreement for a trade to bring Carlos Delgado from the Marlins, Newsday has learned. The trade won't be finalized until medical examinations of the players involved are complete and commissioner Bud Selig signs off on the deal.

The Mets have agreed to send righthanded pitching prospect Yusmeiro Petit and young first baseman Mike Jacobs to the Marlins for Delgado, according to someone familiar with the deal. As part of the deal, the Marlins will send $7 million back to the Mets to cover part of the $48 million remaining on Delgado's contract.

Maybe the Cubs should have a fire sale. The Marlins sure are getting a bunch of good prospects. How much do you think we could get for Neifi?

The 2 guys were Petit the pitcher and a 1B who is expected to immediately replace Delgado. Deal pending physical and approval from the Budmeister.

Castillo only please.

Castillo

Bradley (Walker traded to LA)

Barrett

Cedeno

Bradley will not be a Cub. Despite his good bat and good defense, he is a bad fit for a team being built with chemistry in mind. Eyre came here because of the good clubhouse. Sosa left because he was bad for the clubhouse. Bradley is a headcase and won't be a Cub. It's more likely that a cash strapped team will take a chance on him once he is released. I like Wilkerson, but don't see things falling into place for the Cubs to get him. Pierre and Castillo could come cheap if we take on all the salary and send a guy like Walker back who is an immediate replacement and cheap. Corey, Walker, and maybe Hill/Nolasco/Williams/Mitre or a combination of them could get it done. I know that isn't a ton, but they have to get rid of salary, as much as to make a point to the fans in Florida as it is to help the team. I'd give up Hill in a second. I know a lot of people are really high on him, but I can only recall how many times I heard Juan Cruz being reffered to as the next Pedro. A prospect is by no means a sure thing, (Patterson, Cruz, Choi just a few examples) and to land some good players I would deal a good prospect. C'mon Hendry make some moves that help the team NOW.

and now they're paying more for him than they offered at the time. it's hilarioius. i'm sorry, but OM is a moran! a moran with a lot of cash, but still a moran.

If I were a Mets fan i'd be pissed. Talk about no game plan...

You may be right, but it's not a certainty that Bradley will not be a Cub. Unless....wait....are you Jim Hendry?

Regardless, I really don't like Pierre. He would be an upgrade to what we had last year as far as CF production and lead-off, but there are much better options out there in my opinion. Especially for what he is making.

Petit is going to be very good. Is the 1st baseman Brazille?

Here me now and believe me later, the Las Vegas Gamblers are going to be very, very good.

No, it's not Brazille. It's Mike Jacobs.

I don't know about that. If Reyes ever learns to draw a walk, that team will have a pretty good offense, though Shea will mask that fact to some extent. A Beltran-Wright-Floyd-Delgado core is pretty darned good. If Reyes can start to get on base at a .350 clip in front of them...oh, boy.

I don't think Omar is stupid at all. I think he is doing a good job of being a GM of a big market team. Delgado really solidifies that line up. If they sign Wagner and get Hernandez for behind the plate they have the makings of a division challenger. They still need some more bullpen help and another starter, but they have a ton 'o dough and a new TV network.

Just my two cents.

I think Petit's going to be one of those pitchers who have tremendous minor league numbers that becomes a 4th starter in the bigs.

IIRC, Delgado had no interest in playing for the Mets. Delgado showed no interest in wanting to be traded this year either. Should be interesting to see how this plays off. Could he cause some problems in that clubhouse?

IRRC, I think it had something to do with beying lamblasted by the NY media for not standing during the signing of that crappy God Bless America song.

Omar is building a Latin oriented club that will appeal to NYs large and expanding Latin population. If he can get Manny turned around it will be all salsa all the time.
