In the November issue there's an article by Bruce Levine and Joel Bierig. For what it's worth it got me excited.

Names on Hendry's radar screen include Furcal, Brian Giles, Burnett, Washburn and B.J. Ryan.

Talks about what an asset it would be to have Ryan and Dempster in the bullpen. Sorry Vance but it makes mention of closers that failed or were hurt last year and how Hendry lucked out not signing any of them. Octavio Dotel was on that list. Hendry still might get him on the rebound though.

Also says Dempster and Aramis are trying to help the Cubs aquire Burnett and Furcal. Burnett and Dempster are friends and Aramis and Furcal have the same agent.

Points out Rich Hill and Ricky Nolasco will have a fair shot at making the big league club.

Mentions Ronny Cedeno can play second and that Nomar is likely gone. Lists Giles as the second answer to the Cubs offensive woes behind Furcal. They mention the Cubs think Giles would hit 25-30 homers away from Petco.

The last thing I want to point out is they list the last four times we made the playoffs and they think it's because of Bob Dernier in '84, Jerome Walton in '89, Lance Johnson in '98, and Kenny Lofton in '03.

Most of this probably has been talked about on the board but my main reason for posting this is to show that Giles and B.J. Ryan :D are on Hendry's radar.

I was going to play in a golf tourny this weekend in Shreveport, but I had to work. Turns out Todd Walker and B.J. Ryan are in it.

I love the cubs. Get a leadoff hitter and we make the playoffs. Excellent reasoning.

actually its more like "get a leadoff hitter to get on in front of lee & aram AND keep the starters healthy and make the playoffs."

Dernier 84

Walton 89

Lance Johnson 98

Lofton 93

That is some world class lead-off men there. Without looking(which I shouldnt do) I am guessing that only Walton in 89 lead the team in runs scored. This is unfair to Lofton who is easily the best player on this list but it is not like we are talking great lead-off men. Sadly Juan Pierre would fit right in with this bunch though. He always reminded me of Lance Johnson.
