Stoney was just on with Murph. He reiterated what has been being said all day on here. He think the Cubs will get Furcal and Pierre.

He said Hendry will trade a few of the young guys for Pierre, he thinks Hendry will do almost anyhting yo get him.

Said Cubs wont be only bidder for Furcal

Said Pie will be a good player, but isnt the best prospect ever and is not untouchable

Also said he would bat Pierre 1 and Furcal 2

All of these rumors are pretty consistent, I'm starting to believe more and more that Pierre and Furcal will be Cubs

Stone also said one more thing, which was obvious, but encouraging:

Jim Hendry wants to have a good offseason. He is motivated and positioned well for 4 reasons:

(1) has more than $30M to spend

(2) has decent young talent in the minors, which he can trade

(3) he was 4 games below .500

(4) he finished behind the Brewers

They better get used to finishing behind the Brewers.

Injuries are the excuss he gives every year. Yet the some of the core members of the team are injury proned

this past year was the wake up call on injuries. letting it happen to you once is a mistake. twice is just plain stupidity.

you can't prevent injuries from happening to your team, but you can have backup plans for when they do happen (extra quality starter, etc).

They don't have to get used to anything. I suspect the Cubs won't finish below the Brewers for a long time.

With the potential addition of Furcal and Pierre, no way do the Cubs finish behind the Brewers.

Brew Crew looking better & better. With the addition of Furcal & Pierre, it would still be a pretty good battle IMO.

Why do you think it would be a good battle?

What do you think the Cubs need to add to make sure it is not a good battle?

Because if there were people on base last year Lee would have drove in about 160 runs. Aramis and Burnitz would have had many more RBI as well.

I think the better 4 reasons are these:

1. Has more than $30m to spend

2. Has decent young talent in the minors, which he can trade

3. Has trade commodity on the major league level (Walker, Patterson, Hairston, Williams, Cedeno, Murton, Mitre, Novoa, Ohman, Wellemeyer and Wuertz)

4. The team was horrible last year

I think the best reason is that the organization's humiliated by the presence of a World Series champion on the other side of town and a fast approaching 100 year drought on its side of town.

Sorry, had to :)

I'm just a Cubs fan surrounded by Brewer fans in my office. I coach a High School Baseball team that is filled with Brew Crew fans and I have heard about it every single day since the Cubs finished below them. I am not denying they will be better than they have been the last 10 years. However, if we get stronger and they do nothing but get 1 year older. I don't see how they can compete. Now, if they add another bat (namely a 3rd baseman) a solid 4 starter and some middle relief. Sure, then we have a contest. Until then...I will keep betting the Cubs make the Playoffs while the Brewers take an early vacation!
