What would a package of Walker and CPatt and a high pitching prospect (Hill?) get us from the Tribe? Would a package like that get us Sizemore and a prospect? Is that too much for Sizemore? Would Sizemore fullfill the Cubs' RF need?

I was just reading in the Dallas Morning News that the Cubs have contacted the Rangers about Mench. I could see a Walker + prospect for Mench trade.

What a bad way to start a day... :x :x

Mench's numbers make him look like a right handed Burnitz. Why would the Cubs need to give up a prospect along with Walker to get a worse player?

Would Mench be a possibility in RF?

Unless the Rangers move Soriano they will not trade for Walker.

Why? don't you like Mench? ...or is it just the thought of parting with Walker?

Both. What's there to like about Mench? Other than in 2003, his OBP has hovered around .330. Sure, his SLG is pretty good, but he's not very good at not making outs. Trading Walker for Mench would in no way improve the team.

might as well have burnitz back instead of mench. at least jerome hits left handed. i would consider mench a downgrade in rf and would much rather see tracy or wilkerson (or even floyd for that matter).

No way I make a deal with Texas unless it somehow gets us Michael Young. Just nobody else interests me, including Soriano. Well, I suppose Tex would, but we're good at 1B

As for Cleveland, hmm, I could see something happen there. How about a true blockbuster and trade Walker, Barrett, and Patterson for Crisp, Sizemore, and Martinez? (yes, I realize, never happen, heh, but I like to dream big).

He played 38 games in '03. Just throw that year out. What you see in his stats in his plate discipline developing. Check the progression of his K/BB rates. that's a very solid indicator. his obp will improve.

he is a career .818 OPS hitter (burnitz put up a whopping .757 in '05...i think he's done in MLB anyways) making the league minimum. if hendry is going out for him, i don't think he'll be a starter (he'd be a more than solid bench option). if he does start, hendry must be planning to spend a ton elsewhere (and we already have a lot of money to spend).

Mench over Burnitz because: He's younger, he's cheaper and he has more upside.

I like the trade if the cubs get a prospect.

Does Mench have a minor league history to say he might be as good as a Burnitz? Also, no one has mentioned how good/bad Mench is defensively and I would consider Burnitz to be a little above average thoughout his career and average last year.

Jeromy Burnitz 2005 VORP: 17.5

Kevin Mench 2005 VORP: 23.7

Everytime I see someone cite VORP, I crack up a little inside. Anyone here remember that guy who tried to ridicule us "stat heads"... he kept saying stuff like "VORP this, VORP that... VORPing around."

I forget what he was arguing about...lol sorry for the complete waste of a post...but does anyone remember this guy?

EDIT - nevermind, it was CubsLoseAgain... I'm sure plenty of you will remember him.

What is VORP and what is better the lower number or higher number?

Value Over Replacement Player = VORP

Higher is better

Walker for Coco Crisp sounds alright.

I'd definitely be up for that trade. I'd rather have Crisp than Bradley, even though Bradley is probably the better player.

Why waste your time thinking about these things? Hendry will trade Walker for Christian Guzman. Can't have enough guys "that can catch the ball", you know.

Hey Jim, $2 on the Long Island Iced Teas for the rest of the afternoon, sidle up to the bar, buddy!

We should start a pool on what crappy player Hendry will get next. Macias? A trade with San Diego for Vinny Castilla? He can catch the ball, right?
