Today's ABJ reports that the Indians are very interested in acquiring Todd Walker, especially after the Cubs picked up his relatively cheap $2.5M option.

If they get him, the Indians plan to play him at 1B and 2B.

The Indians believe the Cubs will trade Walker, especially if they sign Rafael Furcal.

Well, if we have to see Walker get dealt and Cedeno at 2B, then try to get one or more of their relievers. If Walker gets dealt to Cleveland and neither David Riske or Rafael Betancourt comes here, I'm going to be upset.

What about Walker for Coco Crisp?

We won't get anything great in trade for Walker (from the Indians). I can't imagine getting a decent prospect out of it. Maybe we can throw in some prospects along with Walker and snag Sizemore, although i doubt it.

We need an OF with a decent arm (if Murton is going to be in LF). Crisp doesn't have a Damon arm, but it's pretty close.

I'm assuming you'd put him in CF?

Can he play CF? OUt of curiousity, where would you bat him. OBP is a bit low for leadoff.

Me too, but I think Crisp or a bullpen arm is more likely. You?

yeah, i'd agree the bp arm is more likely. they have some decent ones to choose from, but i love sizemore (i'm sure cleveland does too).

I'd play him in CF. He's played 188 games there compared to 216 in left. I wouldn't use him as a lead-off hitter, but I think he'd be fine in the seventh or eighth spot. And since trading Walker is predicated on signing Furcal, we would already have our lead-off hitter.

Crisp isn't a great player, but he isn't poor either. In 2005, he hit 300/345/465 which is much better than we got from any of our centerfielders. From 2002-2004, he hit 290/333/428. He rarely walks, but his numbers aren't bad if he can handle CF. If we're determined to trade Walker, and if we've signed Furcal, Crisp gives us a decent option to use.

My only requirements for trading Walker would be that the player we get in return must be a) very good and b) relatively cheap. That's the kind of player we're giving up, so it seems only fair that we should receive a similar player in return. Most of Cleveland's good/cheap players are also pretty young, so I'm not sure if they present the best match as their youth adds to their potential value.

Didn't Hendry have interest in Belliard last year? Walker for Belliard wouldn't surprise me, although it's kind of pointless. Edited by AAApittsburgh

In the extremely unlikely event we could get Coco Crisp for Todd Walker, I'd hit Crisp second.

Todd Walker and Todd Wellemeyer for David Riske and Franklin Gutierrez.

Yeah, I agree. I'd be willing to kick in a decent prospect if it would land us Sizemore, though.

Vance--I kind of like your plan. I forgot we'd theoretically have Furcal and thus have no need for a leadoff guy. Assuming he can handle CF, Crisp would be an upgrade over CP.

However, does it make more sense to trade Walk for pen help and sign one of the serviceable FA CF (a la Lofton)?

Grady Sizemore is one of the most valuable properties in baseball. We'd be more likely to acquire Ted Sizemore.

Maybe...but then we also have a number of internal bullpen options. If we trade Walker for Crisp, we could also use Walker's 2.5 million to sign a bullpen arm. I'd ask for Crisp if possible. Plus, I'd love to be able to say in a game thread, "I'm Coo Coo for Coco Crisp!"

I suppose you're right. A bit of a pipe-dream.

it all depends on the prospect. if it was pie and walker, they'd probably consider it.

LOL. Unless by "some prospects," you mean Pie, then you must be kidding about getting Sizemore.

Extremely doubtful that Shapiro would give Pie and Walker for Sizemore more than 30 seconds consideration.

And I'm a staunch Pie supporter.

sizemore just had one great season. he wasn't the "elite prospect" everyone thinks he is a two or three years ago.

Travis hafner for Walk?

Seriously, what kind of deal do you think we could put together w/ them?

I doubt Cleveland would trade Crisp or Sizemore for Walker and even a good prospect. You have to figure Hafner, Peralta, Martinez, Crisp and Sizemore are virtually untouchable.

About the best we can do would probably be Casey Blake or David Riske. I certainly don't want Blake. Riske is probably the guy to focus on.
