Penn State at home against a bad Purdue team for homecoming. Why am I so worried?

I have no idea.

nor do I. Go drink beer and enjoy this one.

That's a foregone conclusion. Beer is ready to go.

Penn State has proved that for the first time in years they have depth, which should be enough to overcome Derrick Williams' injury. The game is at home, so It really ought to be a blow out. 8-1 wouldn't be too bad going into the "Big 10 championship game" vs. Wisconsin in 2 weeks.

On a more serious note, Mizzou travels to kU this weekend. Please don't suck against them, they're bad.

They have an excellent run defense, and their D is very similar to Nebraska's.

That being said, we should win by at least two scores.

I'd also LOVE a KSU upset over Colorado, but regardless we still have to beat Colorado next weekend. BUT, Kansas first.

Oh man, if we win and KSU knocks off CU, then there's no excuse at all for us not to win the North. I really need to stop thinking about how good a position we're in right now, I'm setting myself up for a major disappointment.

I'm not worried about the Wildcats against Michigan. The Wolverines have needed Lloyd Carr's personal timekeeper and overtime to escape with wins the last couple weeks.

Don't forget the first half of the Michigan-Iowa game, which featured some of the most atrocious referee work I've seen in the Big 10 since the Michigan-Illinois game in 2000 - and that's saying a lot. Michigan got 2 pass interference calls, one where the ball was uncatchable and well past the receiver when the hit was made.... there was another horrendous one as well. There were also two Michigan fumbles where the runner was ruled down, one of those fumbles coming deep in their own territory where a correct ruling very likely would have led to points for Iowa. There was also a bizarre ruling of receiver interference when the Iowa punt coverage guy was really not all that close to the receiver who fumbled the ball.

Also, the Iowa AD said that he and Kirk Ferentz would be speaking with the Big 10 about the officiating in the game:

Coach Ferentz and I will likely provide some comments to the conference office for review by the supervisor of officials," Bowlsby responded . "The game is finished and the outcome cannot change, so all we can do is make our concerns known and seek to improve where we believe deficiencies exist.

Looks like Penn State fans aren't the only ones "whining" about the refs after a tight loss to Michigan...[/url]

I predict that if PSU manages to beat Purdont and Wisconsin, there will be a ton of Nittany Lion fans in East Lansing for the season finale on November 19.

DJAXX and dave, where are you? The evil genius is back and your team is in trouble. Word on the street is that they aren't too happy with Phat Phil and his inability to win with a pretty sweet stable of talent. I guess they don't think a preseason top 5 team should be 3-3.

I am looking forward to this one big time. You guys are favored by 14. What are your thoughts.

Go [expletive]. Darth Visor is back in Knoxville!

And I for one am glad to see him back!!!! Welcome back Steve. It looks like it's gonna be a battle for sure. We can't even score 14 points so I'd take that spread every day of the week. I think it's gonna be too close to call. A lot of Vol fans hate The Ole Ball Coach, but I love him. Darth Visor is a heck of a nickname for him. Best of luck SCCubsfan!!!

Same to you Dave.

They ran an article in the paper here today discussing all the things that Spurrier has said about Fulmer and UT. There was one in there I hadn't seen. He was playing golf in early '97 at a charity golf event and Fulmer and Pat Summit were both in attendance. A pro at the course asked Spurrier if he was going to play his round with Fulmer. Spurrier said no, he'd rather play with Pat Summit because he only plays with people who win national championships. Classic.

Its going to be a battle. I am just worried that your big uglies will push around in the trenches. For the first time in a long time I think we have an advantage at the skill positions.

I had forgotten about that one-handed catch...and game, apparently.

The game starts at 6:11...my date of birth (6/11)...

No, Iowa isn't on that level. Just ask 'em

"There's no conspiracy," center Brian Ferentz said. "We're not like Penn State. We're not crying about any conspiracies. There's no conspiracy against us. It's just luck of the draw."

I wonder if Brian's dad and the AD mentioned the awful fumble call late in the game deep in UM's territory or the missed safety call when their kick returner muffed the kickoff, then proceeded to kick the ball as it lay on the 1-yardline before recovering it in the endzone. Instead, the officials ruled it a touchback.

I want this game so bad...

6:00 on ESPN, by the way.

I'll be there. Hope it lives up to the last MI - NU game in Evanston.

Me too

Right. That should've read: Hope it lives up to the last MI - NU game I attended in Evanston (2000 game).

While it would actually be better for PSU to see Northwestern lose (netting a 2nd conference loss), the Wildcats are just too much fun to root against. Of course I went to NU for grad school for 3 years as well, but they didn't manage to convert me from my Nittany Lions loyalty

The only reason I'm not going to start a pointless, drawn out argument with you, again, is because you have that Arrested Development video clip in your signature. It's frankly mesmerizing.

They fail to convert probably about 90% of Michigan football fans who come in as undergrads, so they don't have a chance with grad students.

BTW, Cheap Seats is doing the '89 Holiday Bowl between PSU and BYU this week. It should be replayed tonight at 9 PM central.

That was a prototypical Holiday Bowl. The over/under on that game is always about 87 points. I think PSU won 50-39 or something like that?

Yeah. And it featured BYU going for a 2-point conversion in the 4th quarter to tie the game. Instead, the pass was picked off in the end zone and returned 100+ yards for 2 points.

The episode also features some PSU player talking to Shamu.

You aren't going to remove the Sklar Bros. pic for UM/NU week?

Meh. They're Cardinals fans, which is worse.

I attended a PSU vs. BYU regular season game in which Penn State destroyed the Ty Detmer lead Cougars. Good times

This could be a good time to re-launch my "Rocket Ismail for 1990 Heisman" campaign. Seriously, that was pathetic.

That was back in the days when Penn State beat every team with a Heisman winner on it. I remember I had a T-Shirt that said "Heisman Graveyard" with the Nittany Lion next to the headstones of Detmer, Vinny Testeverde and Herschel Walker

It wasn't just PSU, Detmer was a product of the BYU system, as was exruciatingly proven in the NFL. The classic example came in the team's respective bowl games after the 1990 season, where Detmer threw five picks in his bowl game while Rocket was a BS clipping call away from a national title-reversing punt return for a TD against Colorado.

Though Rocket was a bit better, neither of them lit the NFL on fire.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed in that. Rocket's career was unfortunately derailed by injuries. I remember a brief period in the late 90's where he played for my Carolina Panthers and he was my favorite player in the world. My first college football memories are of the Rocket.

Rockets career was above average IMO. Not the best but nothing to scoff at. He did tear up the Canadian league as well.

Nothing close to his college career though. I will never forget the two KO returns against scUM. One of the best ND memories I have. I still have the SI that has a few page layout on the phantom clipping call. I still get pissed anytime I hear about it.

Also have the SI with Rocket posing with a ND helmet with a $ sign.
