Pretty tough call for the home plate umpire though. It was very close to his arm, but when slowed down it's obvious it hit the bat instead of his arm. Still a tough call though.

Given the weather (temps in the 40s, rain), a pitch thrown that hard would have really hurt Dye if it hit him. When Dy started walking towards first with no sign of pain, that was a good sign that he didn't get hit. Edited by CaliforniaRaisin

After viewing it on a large HD television, it clearly hit the bat, no matter what angle they show.

Let the White Sox have the series (after 7 games), let them have all the calls, because next yr...they will have all the calls go AGAINST them, nor while the have the right to "complain" about not having it go their way.

And even if/when the Sox still win the WSeries, they'd still be the "OTHER" Chicago team. 8)

The Sox are getting a lot of calls, but the only reason we remember them is that they take advantage of the opportunities. They don't waste a gift.

Good point....Good teams almost always take advantage of extra outs.

I suppose you could turn that around and say they became a good team because they did well with all the extra outs.

The Dye thing wasn't an extra out. Had it been called right, it would have still been 3-2 with 2 out. He might have walked on the next pitch. No way of knowing.

It's mostly being doubly lucky. Give them those situations again and odds are against the grand slam, etc.

Proof that a little luck can go a long way.

Yes but the bad call led to circumstances which resulted in the grand slam. If the right call had been made, chances are the inning would of gone very differently.

Why are the chances that it would have gone differently? If the next pitch was a ball, the bases are loaded, Garner still replaces Walker, and Konerko still swings away. We'll never know....
