I know this might be a sore topic for some . . .but I can't help throwing in my two cents.

I grew up a Cub fan living in the New York area. As a huge baseball fan in general, I've spent a good deal of my time at both Yankee and Shea Stadium.

There are very few in the NY area that cheer for "both" NY teams. I just find it hard to believe that you can grow up cheering and pouring your emotions into one team on one side of town . . .and then cheer for the other team on the other side of town it they make it to the dance and you don't. It makes me sick to my stomach reading all the stories about Cub fans, now rooting for the White Sox . . .I can't stand it . . .nor can I stomach watching any of these World Series games . . .it's like a Cubs fans worst nightmare . . .

Not only that . . .but in Chicago . . .what Cub fan wants to see the White Sox bring home the first championship in Chicago in ages??? I know here, if the Mets made it to the WS and the Yanks were watching from home . . Yankee fans would rally against the Mets more than ever before.

Look - baseball is a game . . .I can honestly say congrats to the Sox. Sure, they had a great season . . .and they are a very good ballclub . . .

Cheer for the Sox? . . .I think not.

I was pulling for the stros in 4 . . .I guess I will have to try and make it 5.

A lot of Cubs fans I know are cheering on the Sox, and it makes me mad. I'm not really rooting for anyone, because I don't like either team, but I don't know how some of my friends can openly root for the Sox when they normally say they hate them.

All I know is I think I am the only Cubs fan in Carbondale IL that wanted both the white sox and the cardinals to lose in the playoffs so far Houston has taken care of the Cardinals hopefull they can take care of the sox as well...And to all you Cubs fan jumping onto the white sox bandwagon damn you all to hell for you are not true Cubs fans...

It's not about jumping onto any bandwagons or abandoning the Cubs. It's about wanting a great sports town to have a championship.

If the Sox win, that's fine. It's out of my hands. Better than the Cards winnig. If they lose, no problem either. I'm basically indifferent, but won't jump off a bridge if the Sox win. As you said, it's a game

I'm cheering for the Sox. I live in Chicago but didn't grow up there and don't relate to this Cub/Sox hatred. I also have friends who grew up on the South Side and have been loyal Sox fans since childhood and I'd feel like a mean-spirited turd rooting against their team purely out of spite.

I'm cheering for a sudden and unexpected players strike that lasts until next February.

I, too, am rooting for the White Sox. I pretty much dislike all things Texas. I've never cared for Biggio, hated Kent when he was a stro, and can't stand ESPN's penile fest with Clemens.

I do not live in the chicago area, so I've never experienced the cub / sox hate thing first hand.

Yep, anyone that grew up in Chicago knows that you can't have it both ways. You're either a Cubs fan or a Sox fan... or you just don't follow baseball and are along for the postseason party. There is no such thing as a "Chicago fan" when it comes to baseball.

This is spot-on the truth. Damn the Sox, I say!

i hate Houston. I hate Clemens, I hate Berkman, and i HATE Biggio. I've lived in the Chicago area my whole life and sorry to say, but I have nothing real personal with the Sox. I've been to a few Cubs-Sox games in my lifetime and they are awesome to be at. However like i said in another thread, I hate St. Louis and Houston much much more than the Sox.

I lost a bet and had to wear a White Sox jersey out last night. I still feel dirty. And I've read all the articles about it being for the whole South Side, that they represent my way of life. #### that.

They're an obnoxious team with an obnoxious manager and the worst personality in sports this side of Loria as their owner. May the Astros get hot and take it in 6, in embarrassing fashion.

Exactly. The fans are getting worse though. I wore my Cubs hat out last night (I live on the northside, and I ALWAYS wear my Cubs hat), and I was having things thrown at me in the bar by a group of Sox fans. One of them even started harrassing the girl I was with calling her a "working girl" (i cleaned it up quite a bit... family site) because she was with a Cubs fan. The bouncer politely escorted them outside, where they were seen harrassing an older man wearing a Red Sox hat. If the Sox manage to win the world series, I'm moving. Many of the fans won't care that their team won the world series, they care more that it gives them a reason to mock Cubs fans.

And last night was not an isolated incident by a few fans. It's spreading throughout the city.

I just can't do it. I can't root for the Sox, and I'm not too crazy about the Astros either. If I may get slightly political, it's been like the last two (at least) Presidential elections: hold your nose and pick the one you think stinks less.

I can't remember being more disgusted with the Cubs and unenthusiastic about baseball as I am now, and that includes 1994 and the Braves/Yankees series in 1996.

It may sound nice to be diplomatic and try to have some dignity about not hating the White Sox, but this quote is why most Cub fans in Chicago don't want to see the Pale Hose win.

"When the Cubs played the Marlins [in the 2003 National League Championship Series], I would go places where most people were disinterested and yell out, `Go Fish!'" he says. "There's only one team from Chicago that plays real baseball. But if people up here find out you're a White Sox fan, they look at you like you're an alien."

It's just an obnoxious fan base (and I am including close friends and some relatives in that group) and we are going to have to put up with crap like this until the Cubs win a WS, even then it will only take beating them in the WS to finally shut them up.

My friend you are right...If the sox win the WS we aren't going to hear the end of it till we win one and that might not be for a while at the pace we are going...So if the baseball Gods want the right team from Chicago to win the WS they will have the Astros win 4 straight...

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but after living in the heart of Chicago during this whole postseason, and seeing the abuse (both physical and verbal) and overall low class treatment being handed out by the large Cub- hating section of Sox fans, I would probably root for the Cardinals if they had made the world series.
