Lou Piniella in 07???

Posted

If rumors are true that Piniella might pick booth over a manager position in 06 could he be waiting for the Cubs manager position to open?????

I actually was going to post the same thing about Joe Girardi and while I am happy for him, very disappointed he won't have a change to return home.

So, Piniella anyone?

really? you guys don't like Uncle Lou?

The Cubs don't need old school. They don't need a red-ass. They don't need yelling and screaming and bitching and moaning. They need somebody who will play the best players, employ sound strategy and not kill the pitchers.

Not trying to be argumentative here, Goony, just curious. What is your definition of a red ass ?

That's not really a phrase I use. It's just the one I hear most often when talking about Lou. Basically, somebody who gets pissed off easily and yells a lot.

People use it for Larry Bowa as well.

Opposite of laid-back, Baker isn't a bad manager b/c he's laid-back. Getting someone like that isn't going to cure the ills of the Cubs simply b/c he rants and raves. Better in-game manager, correct usage of the most capable players, and cautious of pitcher's fatigue would do wonders for the Cubs regardless if they're a mute or a screamer.

I'm just wondering who you guys do want to be the Cubs next manager, assuming Baker is gone after this season? Also, were you guys for or against getting Dusty before the 2003 season? I'm just a little curious.

My choices in order...

Hershiser

Dierker

McLaren

Gonzalez.

No, Baker was not high on my list at the time of the hire.

No to Lou as manager and broadcaster. Anyone listen to Lou in the playoff games? He's about 2 minutes behind the action on the field. He really didn't appear to be very sharp.

John McLaren, TB's bench coach. Aggressive style like Lou, similar ability to relate to players as Lou, probably doesn't have the veteran fetish or the arm killing instinct of Piniella.
