I don't care much for Pujols walking to first on homers, or him being a Cardinal, but after reading about how he is off the field, I find it difficult to hate him, and I don't think he is a juicer like Mac and Sosa.

I really liked Pujols at first, but he is really disrespectful with the way he stands and watches his homers now. He wasn't like that when he came up, but has developed that habit over time. I don't care for it any more than I cared Sosa's stupid hop. Plus, he's a Cardinal. It is every Cub fan's birthright to hate any Cardinal.

Ya, he's a great player, but.....

He's been disrespectful watching his homers for a while now. Do you remember when Gary Bennett confronted him about it? He's been doing that for a couple years now, and it is tacky.

Yes, I do remember that. All the Cardinal fans were immediately coming to his defence and calling Bennett bush and what-not.....

If I was pitching, I would put Pujols on his arse if he did that to me or one of my teammates. More than once, if needed.

Really?

And the Astros celebrating like they had won the pennant after Game 4, and again after the Berkman homer last night, and again with 2 outs in the 9th last night................. that's not disrespectful?

What's the difference between Pujols walking trotting to first base and Berkman clapping and dancing around first base?

I hate Fat Elvis, and like Albert more, but the difference is that he was running while he did it. Players who casually stroll down the line draw the whole thing out and irk the pitchers.

Berkman was running (in my opinion) because he hit a soft liner to left that probably felt like it should have been a long single. I imagine he was probably thinking about stretching it into a double.

Pujols hit a home run.

you really want stros fans to have a leg up on us now? i'll root for the cards, at least their bragging rights over us extend so far back that most of us can't remember when they began. houston, what have they won. if the cards win, it;s just another world championship and another pebble on the mountain.

if the stros win, it's a big fat asteroid falling on our collective heads.

I'm glad someone else on here sees it the same way I do. Just imagine having another team and its fans to pile on and gloat at the Cubs expense. And they will if the Astros' win. OH BOY, GOOD TIMES!!!!

It kinda be like having the Marlins win another WS, except this franchise has been around for about 40 years.

Had someone asked me at the start of the season to name the worst possible scenario for the playoffs and WS this is what I would have come up with ( except for the Angels). I found myself rooting for the Cards to win last night - I don't like a single thing about the Astros. Their players, their uniform, their stadium, their tradition(or lack of one) - I don't like any of it so I won't be rooting for them. I once met Jimmy ( Toy Cannon ) Wynn he is the only Astro I've ever liked.

I think Berkman knew, he has hit enough wall scraping cheapies into those boxes to recognize one.

I just don't like the bad ass stroll out of the box staring down the homer routine. I don't like it when ARam does it, I don't like it when Manny does it, and I don't like it when Pujols or others do it. At least jog for Pete's sake.

If someone did that to me when I played ball, I'd have earholed him in his next AB.

I don't have a big problem with any of those players, but I respect the fact that you call out ALL of those guys, instead of just Pujols. I agree with your premise........... we should either be OK with it or we shouldn't, but we can't pick and choose which players can and can't do it.

Is there really anything to debate? A Sox win would constitute a tragedy for the human race.

I can live with any NL Central team winning it all, but I'd rather see the Cards pull it off. Houston just strikes me as a wannabe baseball town.

The difference is in the respect shown for the opponent, and it is large. When pujols or whoever hits a hr then watches it and calmly jogs around the bases, they're saying "I'm so much better than you I knew this was going to happen. There's nothing surpring in its happening, and it can't even get me excited that it's happened"

Berkman celebrating says "yes! I did it! I was unclear of my ability to assist my team in this, but I came through!" etc.

I agree. And you can go ahead and mark down Sosa's little 'homer hop' as one of those things as well. Very disrespectful, IMO.

SOX. I have friends who grew up on the south side and are hardcore Sox fans and I have no problem joining them for a while. I didn't grow up in Chicago so the Cubs/Sox hatred isn't in my blood. Sure there are some annoying Sox fans, but there are plenty of annoying Cubs fans too. It's not like I love the loudmouthed drunk frat boys in Wrigleyville.

You might as well throw Reggie Sanders in there to because when he hit the homerun in the 1st inning he did the little hop also. Which of course no Cardinal fans have a problem with Im sure, but they were the first ones to be hammering Sammy for doing it. Once again it goes back to the Cardinal fans having different standards for their own, while knocking other players for things their own team does.

And Zambrano's finger-pointing, after a strikeout.

And catchers who "whip" the ball down to third base after a strikeout.

The world is entirely too sensitive these days. It's a game, people. Pujols didn't insult anybody's mother.

Show you one? There have been plenty of discussions regarding Sammys hop while he was here, and alot of the Cardinal fans always said how disrespectful and unsportsmanlike it was. If you want to wear your rose colored glasses about it thats fine, but its the truth.

Reggie Sanders doesn't hop after every deep fly ball that he hits.

You're reaching.

We will all get our answer soon enough.

Oswalt is known for dusting guys. Let's all watch closely during Pujols' first AB against him. If there is nobody on base, I'll bet Oswalt gives him a little chin music.

Becasue he took four steps before he started running, after a gigantic home run?

Are you serious?

I hope Oswalt does it.

Simply because I want to see Albert go out to the mound and snap that punk in half.

Ya, sure, why not? You can bet that Gibson or Drysdale would have covered their teammate under such circumstances. Oswalt has the rep, so it would not surprise me at all.

I'm not saying Oswalt will hit him, but I'll bet he brushes him back, for sure, as long as the situation presents itself (e.g. nobody on base).

I think Oswalt is a twerp..., a talented twerp, but one nonetheless.

It takes a lot to piss off Michael Barrett...if you've done that, you're a grade A jerk, IMO.
