Watch for me on ESPN College GameDay at ND this week. I am going to try to make a sign that makes fun of Leinart's ballroom dancing class.

I never thought I'd say this ever...but...Go Irish :-\

I hate ND more than USC, but I'm so tired of hearing about them, and I want a new Champion this year...so...Go Irish...

I'll be at the game too. Do you know where Gameday is setting up? The last time they were there it was infront of the Library (touchdown Jesus). You going up for the Pep Rally on Friday night? Montana is the speaker, and it will be aired on ESPNEWS. Charlie has been wearing a USC OWNS ND hat all week, and is expected to wear it at the pep rally as well. I really can't wait for this weekend. I also like ND being 13 point dogs.

I really don't know what to think of Charlie.

At times he seems like a really good guy, a very smart coach and has traits of that Belichick mold.

But then at times he just seems like a totally arrogant jerk who goes against that mold.

I kind of feel the same way. I love the guy as a coach, and is really is a wonderful person from everything I hear. However at times he does seem arrogant. There have been some quotes he has made where I had to do a double take to make sure I heard/read it correctly. I think he is very, very confident, and at times it can come across as arrogance.

I'm not too big on conspiracy theories but...

Pete Carroll has declined to use the instant replay in South Bend this weekend. It is the only game, not only by USC, but in all of D1 football where the replay has been denied this season. Not really a big deal however it is interesting that the refs who are doing the game are from the PAC-10, and notorious for their bad calls.

Yep.

Saying that he could "out X and O any college coach in America" comes to mind. If you're confident and believe that, more power to you. But I don't really see any reason to say that to the press. It's not something I could ever see Belichick saying and it's definitely not something Ferentz would ever say.

By the way honest question for you and any other ND fans here. Do you guys worry about him leaving to be a head coach in the NFL? I know there have been some rumblings about the new Vikings owner possibly opening up the wallet to try to lure him to the NFL. I'm sure money wouldn't be an issue as ND alumni/boosters would probably make him the highest paid college coach if he's successful.

He just seems like much more of an NFL guy and the offers will almost certainly be there.

I know he has strong loyalties to ND and I could certainly see him wanting to stick around for a long time to return them to sustained prominence and become a legend there. And believe me as an Iowa fan I know how frustrating it is when people continue to throw out unfounded NFL speculation. Just wondering if it's something that comes up in Notre Dame circles.

I think Texas might get a game out of Colorado. The buffaloes are a good team and at home this should be a good game.

I am fairly sure they will. Problem is Colorado gets very little respect, so anything close looks bad on Texas. I am hoping Texas can get a quick 14 point lead, in which case I think we could see a blow out. If Colorado can stay close after the 1st quarter, I expect they will play tough. The key for them will be their running game, just to control the clock.

The X and O quote was

"Let them have to try to stop a pro-style offense. Let's see how they are going to do it. They've had their advantage because I've come into recruiting late. Well, now it's X's and O's time. Let's see who has the advantage now.''

Also this may explain his attitude a bit-

“I have no illusions of grandeur that I’m the greatest coach known to mankind, but I look at those guys, those gentlemen who I have been able to be groomed under and be polished under and learned how to deal with the game of football and teaching of football and dealing with all of the different elements and the distractions, and get focused on what’s really important, I think finally you become a polished product.”

As far as your second question, here is what he said when first hired-

“I don’t come here to leave and take a job in the NFL in three years. This is not a stepping stone. This is an end-all for our family,” he said. “When we come to Notre Dame, we come here with the intent of retiring here.”

He also made comments saying that if he wanted to coach in the NFL he would have taken the Dolphins job. He also said he will coach in South Bend until his son, who he wants to attend ND, is finished with school and then he will retire. As of right now I have no reason to think Weis was not telling the truth when he said that. However peoples minds can change. I just hope Weis' doesn't

So far as I can figure out, I can't imagine where a better spot to set up for the Gameday set would be than in front of TD Jesus, so I imagine that's where they'll be. I can't wait to hear everyone booing the crap out of Corso every time he speaks. I'm getting sick of Lee.

As to what I think of Weis:

I love the guy. Finally, ND hires someone with a no-nonsense attitude that truly believes that ND can win every game they play in. You got the sense toward the end of his tenure that Ty didn't even think the Irish could compete in games like FSU and USC and naturally ND was spanked in those games.

I really do not see Weis leaving until he retires entirely. Charlie knows as well and probably better than just about anyone that if you can succeed as coach at Notre Dame then you are more beloved than anyone in your entire profession. And considering that he is already having success and pulling in a top-10 recruiting class for next year (yes Bob and Tyrone, ND CAN still recruit with the big boys), I really do not see why Charlie would leave. He loves the place too much.

Pete Carroll was opposed to instant replay coming to the Pac 10 too. Reggie Bush was cleared to play on Saturday but will continue to go light in practice this week.

UCLA DT Brigham Harwell was also cleared to play for UCLA in Pullman, despite his sprained ankle. Weather will be a factor in the UCLA game with temps in the 40s and rain (which is a big deal since most of our guys are Californians - 2 years ago, half the team saw snow for the first time in their lives when it snowed during the UCLA-WSU game).

I just think it's interesting that he did not decline it for any other game this year. Like I said, I don't think it is a big deal, just some somewhat intriguing.

Louisville vs. West Virginia

I wonder which Louisville team will show up on Saturday??

Go Cards!

Louisville has more than one team? That's unfair!

Florida St. vs. Virginia has a bit of luster to it. When you take into account that it will be a nationally televised night game on ESPN, that UVA was blasted last year in Tallahassee (when the sports geniuses were POSITIVE they had the better team), and when FSU is looking like the team they were during their dynasty period, I'm pretty sure this merits "marquee" status.

A comparison of Quinn and Leinhart so far this year. The winner of this game may very well be a frontrunner for the heisman. I had no clue they were this close statistically

Quinn

com-att-int

124-190-3 (65.3%) 1621 yards 13 TDs 55 (long) 324.2 yards/game

Leinart

108-166-3 (65.1%) 1646 yards 12 TDs 67 (long) 329.2 yards/game

Wow I didn't think they were that close either. Whoever wins tomorrow's game instantly becomes the front runner for the Heisman. If the Irish win Saturday, it's more than possible that Brady Quinn will be a Heisman winner with UT as the only remaining tough game on the slate. He came into the season as a sub-.500 quarterback. Such is the Weis influence.

Vince Young may have something to say about that.

Actually I really don't see Leinart winning the Heisman this year even if they run the table. I think Bush is much more likely to win it than Leinart.

I think it is Leinhars to lose, but it may lost to his own teammate

I agree - I think Vince Young is currently the front runner for the Heisman.

Vince Young has thrown for over 600 yards fewer than Brady Quinn and Matt Leinart, and he has rushed for 377 yards -- not enough, IMO, to make up for the spectacular differential (120 yards a game!!) in passing yards, especially since Brady Quinn has himself rushed for over a hundred yards this season, and also since Brady has put up his numbers against much better defensive competition. I think Vince is a great QB, but due to Media Michael Vick Syndrome, Young is getting more pub than he probably deserves.

I doubt the voters will let Leinart win again unless he's spectacular this season. Bush won't win because of the amount of love LenDale White is getting. Brady Quinn cannot yet be considered with Leinart, Bush and Young. This doesn't mean that I think Young should win it, just that I think he is the front runner (or very close to it).

Adamb0719, why do you just show the top 5? You should show the top 6! ;):D

Didn't want to take any attention away from Brady :D

Do you think Drew has a chance, at least of getting an invitation?

For now, yes, especially if the Bruins finish well - I think Maroney and Vick are staunch competitors for the final invite but Mo can beat them out. It helps that Mo's best game (Cal game) was on national TV.

What would the ACC be this year without the Big East teams Stuy?

By the way, congrats on your season so far, that defense is very good.

Same could be asked about the ACC last year. I was shocked that VT went over and won the first year. I am looking forward to a VT-FSU championship game. A rematch of the 99 BCS game would be nice. Not a given that it will be these two, but very possible.

not to beat a a dead horse, but that "non-marquee" matchup between UM and PSU has the 3-3 team favored by 3 1/2 over the 6-0 team....
