A team that has beaten the ever so tough No. Illinois and E. Michigan and lost to about everyone else is marque? I don't think so.

How many times do I have to say this? Nobody is saying Michigan is marquee. They are saying the game is a marquee matchup. Nobody is claiming it is THE marquee matchup either, just one of the few.

I think you should say it about 500 times.

IMO it's not a marque matchup. If you're a Big 10 fan it probably is but it isn't for me.

They are 1-4 let's not exaggerate. You and Goony seem to want to bring in my team for some reason and I never said that a Syracuse or even a Big East game should be shown. Again, this wasn't a personal attack but a question about why this game would be considered marque.

What about

K-State at Texas Tech

and

Indiana looking to get a win at Iowa?

K-State and IU both lost fairly decisively to the only decent teams they played this season (Oklahoma and Wisconsin respectively). I'd wager those games will both be routs.

Watch for me on ESPN College GameDay at ND this week. I am going to try to make a sign that makes fun of Leinart's ballroom dancing class.

I hate ND more than USC, but I'm so tired of hearing about them, and I want a new Champion this year...so...Go Irish...

unfortunately, i wont be able to watch the USC-ND game. I'll be at the NIU-Eastern Michigan game to watch NIU put up hopefully at least 50 points. Go Irish though, i REALLY hope they beat USC..

Marquee is not an official designation. To me, it denotes a game of great interest. Personally, if an undefeated Big Ten team is playing at the previous year's champion this far into the season, I call it interesting. I'll be watching, and my bet is millions of others will be as well. Not everybody has to love the game to make it marquee. I probably won't watch much of FLA/LSU, but I won't argue that it's a marquee matchup. If the PSU/UM game isn't good enough for you, then don't watch it. Don't poop on other people's fun.

Frankly, I'm just hoping one of PSU/UM or ND/USC ends up interesting.

We disagree, that's all. For Penn State fans, this game is as important as the Ohio State game (despite Michigan's record). The state of the Big 10 is such that just about any team can beat any other on any given Saturday. I don't think Michigan is less likely to play a good game just because they are 3-3.

I'm very much interested in the game and I don't care for the Big 10.

I'm not trying to dismiss the game but just point out it is more of a Midwest game than national. People speak of eastcoast bias and there is but IMO this is a Midwestern thing not national.

For selfish reasons I want at least 3 teams to end up being undefeated...USC/UCLA, Texas, Penn State and Florida St/VTech. Maybe this will cause a playoff.

I'm not sure if there's a more interesting week of Big Ten football than this one.

(23) Wisconsin @ (22) Minnesota - 11 AM, ESPN

(16) Michigan State @ (15) Ohio State - 11 AM, ABC

Indiana @ Iowa - 11 AM, ESPNU

Northwestern @ Purdue - Noon, ESPN2

(6) Penn State @ Michigan - 2:30, ABC

Aside from the middle game, which wouldn't surprise me if it's pretty close, I'm not sure if you can really predict how these are going to turn out.

As for the NU game, IF Walker and Dunbar repeat the offensive strategy that they used against Wisconsin (i.e. throw downfield, which despite being an obvious need, had not been implemented in close games), they can repeat their success from last Saturday against Purdue's questionable secondary. Basanez has proven to be one of the top QBs in the Big Ten now that his shoulder is healthy (his only interception came in the final minutes against PSU when he had to try to make something happen) and has a ton of wide receivers to go to, whether short, over the middle, or deep. Oh, and then there's Tyrell Sutton.

Of course, they'll have to overcome their suckiness on the road, but they did score 40+ twice last year away from Evanston. Hopefully they can pile on Purdue just like last year, when we handed them their third consecutive loss. They've already lossed three in a row and despite being at home, their confidence has to be at a season low. Look for another shootout that nets about 65-70 points.

If we can somehow pull this one out, all of the sudden, we're going to be thinking about a bowl. We'd have to then win at home vs. either Michigan (night game, homecoming) or Iowa and then at Illinois. A win at Purdue will make that a possibility.

FYI, both Michigan and PSU are huge in NY and New Jersey. It ain't just midwest.

Are you just trying to flame or do you really think Indiana is that good?

I think Indiana is very much improved and they can keep the game close. But I really have a hard time seeing them end Iowa's 21 game home winning streak. We haven't lost a Big Ten home game since Michigan in 2001.

Especially after Iowa really put together a solid game last week, and showed solid improvement two weeks ago against Illinois.

Also keep in mind that Iowa is 21-2 in October and November over the last 3 years. Since he arrived in '99, Kirk's teams have always gotten much better as the season goes along and they're showing signs of that again this year.

Well...at least as of right now, at home against Northwestern to close the season isn't a guarateed loss for you guys.

Being at Gameday live is maybe the coolest thing I've ever done. I went to Purdue-Wisconsin last year at Purdue and it was amazing. Just hope Corso puts on the right mascot head.

Jon- I watched the NU game last week and the Purdue game. There is no reason NU shouldn't put up at least 40 on my boys. Our defense is absolutely awful and the players confidence is visibly shaken. On offense, Tiller had better scrap this spread option thing until he finds someone who can run it. Kirsch is clueless. My call- NU 42, Purdue 24.

In general, "the right mascot head" is "the head of the opposition's mascot" if you have a rooting interest in the game. If Corso puts on the mascot head of the team you're rooting for, get ready for disappointment.

I've read about Purdue's secondary woes and everything, but the problem for us is that the Wisconsin game was really the first time we had a good offensive gameplan and executed it. It was also the first time we had success in the red zone (7 trips, 5 TDs, 1 FG, 1 to run out the clock at the end of the game). Before that, our offense was absolutely terrible inside the 20s. If Dunbar lets Basanez air it out, though, Basanez and his receivers certainly have the ability to one-up Iowa's passing game. As for the ground game, what's interesting about last week is that Iowa ran it 50 times for just 3.6 yards a carry, but still had that much success through the air. If Sutton and the new o-line can keep it up, that's going to create some real problems for Purdue's defensive coordinator.

But on defense, when you don't have a pass rush and you don't have a secondary, it's going to be real hard to hold a team like Purdue to 24 without 3 or 4 takeaways. And despite the talented linebacker corps, the defense has yet to show any ability to a spread offense (except Ohio's option offense, but that can hardly be considered an offense).

Even though Purdue is playing Illinois and Indiana to end the season, with three homegames left and just two wins, it sure looks like Purdue absolutely has to win this game to keep their bowl hopes alive. The only way Northwestern wins 42-24 is if we make far fewer mistakes than we have all year. There's no way to stop the big play with this defense, but hopefully they can cut out the really stupid and timely penalties.

Speaking of Purdue, Terry Bannon of the Trib is saying that because of Texas QB Joe Mauro verbally committing to NU yesterday, we're "effectively" no longer going after 3-star Deerfield, IL QB Alex Loukas. Loukas was down to Purdue (made his visit vs. ND), Northwestern, and Standford. Alex was supposed to visit NU in three weeks against Michigan and Standford at the end of the season, but I'd have to imagine that if Bannon is right, Purdue certainly has the inside track on Loukas.

Penn State is not dominate and can lose to about any team in the Big Ten so I don't see why this game is any different. It's just giving a big name school more chances for glory.

Chances for glory? What glory do they get for being on a list of marquee matchups this weekend in college football? Sorry it's not a Big East matchup. Perhaps Rutgers/Syracuse deserves more glory.

It's an undefeated Big Ten team, facing the previous year's conference champion.

That's a marquee matchup.

A team that has beaten the ever so tough No. Illinois and E. Michigan and lost to about everyone else is marque? I don't think so.

While we are talking about the wonderful Big 10/11 let me know how many top 25 teams they have beaten out of conference?

They did beat MSU.

I'll be at the game too. Do you know where Gameday is setting up? The last time they were there it was infront of the Library (touchdown Jesus). You going up for the Pep Rally on Friday night? Montana is the speaker, and it will be aired on ESPNEWS. Charlie has been wearing a USC OWNS ND hat all week, and is expected to wear it at the pep rally as well. I really can't wait for this weekend. I also like ND being 13 point dogs.

I really don't know what to think of Charlie.

At times he seems like a really good guy, a very smart coach and has traits of that Belichick mold.

But then at times he just seems like a totally arrogant jerk who goes against that mold.
