"D'Angelo Jimenez - 2B - Reds

Reds sent second baseman D'Angelo Jimenez outright to Triple-A Louisville. Jimenez rejected the assignment and became a free agent. He could be quite the bargain pickup this winter. It's true he struggled mightily for the Reds this season, but it was just a month and a half. He's still a fine offensive second baseman, and that he spent a lot of time playing shortstop after being sent to the minors won't hurt his stock."

From a utility standpoint, you got to figure he would be much better than Jose Macias or Neifi Perez, given his career OBP of .350.

He's too young. I doubt Dusty would use him...

trade walker & put dj at 2b maybe? how do they compare on d?

I don't know that anyone is suggesting getting rid of Walker for Jimenez. Jimenez would assume the role Perez or Macias currently have, or should have had (bench).

sign him, and designate him as the utility guy. With him on the team ALONG with say Walker/Cedeno and Nomar/Furcal. The bench will be ESPECIALLY strong. I love his versatility. get this guy hendry.

I think he would sign with a team that he could start for.

Im sure that if Nomar and Cedeno are the starting infielders next year (which I would be alright with) that between them, and backing up Ramirez at 3rd, he could get well over 100 starts.

I just do not see that being ok with him. I'd have to think with all the teams that need a 2nd baseman he would have a chance to start somewhere. I think Boston and Minny are looking for starters and if I were him that's the route I'd go.

I think he will have a lot of trouble finding a regular starting job. He seems to wear out his welcome after a half a year or so. Something is wrong.

Possible ocf....very possible. I just don't think he'll see it that way and he will either be a quick sign for some team or one of those that linger until the end as the other teams fill up their rosters.

I don't see him getting a starting gig anywhere. There will be other 2nd basemen that aren't "trouble" looking for work this offseason.

Jimenez brings OBP, speed, a bit of power and a decent glove to the middle infield. He'd be a pretty good bench player, IMO. He'd also be a decent replacement guy if the starting 2nd baseman did go down.

What I would be worried about is if the Cubs went with Cedeno at 2nd, it probably wouldn't take long for Dusty to give more playing time to Jimenez.

In other words, going with a rookie at any position with a veteran back up is not "dusty proofing" the line up.

Jimenez would be an excellent bench option. He has a 267/350/382 career line. He's played 386 games at 2b, 43 at 3b, and 100 at SS. He would be an excellent fill-in.

I too don't see anyone giving him a chance to start, so he should be open to a bench role.

He made 2.87 million in 2005. I wonder how much it is going to take to sign him.

He'll be very lucky to get $1 mil. His act gets old, heck, Cinn. even sent him down. Don't forget how fast the Sox tired of him. His reputation will likely lead to a 1 year deal. Hopefully, not with the Cubs.

I was also someone who thought Jimenez would be a nice pickup last year.

Many people complained about his supposed attitude, but I think he'd be a damn fine player (and a good STARTER).

Personally I say save the money and don't resign Nomar. Pick up Jimenez, and start Ronny at SS.

Well that just is not going to happen in Chicago.

Yep. Jimenez would be playing everyday and Cedeno would be sitting on the bench. I love what Cedeno has the potential to become, but he's about as unknown of a commodity as anyone on the Cubs roster. The first sign of struggle, Jose Macias (or whoever the veteran flavor of the day happens to be) to the rescue.

It's one thing when guys like Cedeno get sat in favor of the likes of Perez or Macias. It would be another if he sat in favor of Jimenez, who actually has value and would be an asset to the team. It's unfair to compare D'Angelo to Neifi.

I'm not comparing Jimenez to Neifi. I didn't even mention Neifi. My point is that Baker wouldn't give Cedeno the time he needs to prove he is WAY better than Neifi, Macias, Jimenez or whoever else might be considered for a back up job behind him. The first sign of struggle, he'll be on the bench.

I'm in the bring back Nomar camp, and I believe Nomar is way better than all the above names. Quite possibly better than all of them combined.
