I was playing MVP 2005 last night and when D Lee was up, the announcer said "This guy's a pretty good hitter, but he's not going to win any batting titles."

The irony!

yeah, i've heard that one before. makes me laugh every time.

They also said it once for Bill Mueller, the 2003 AL batting champ. But for Derrek Lee?? That's iffy.

As a .270 hitter coming into the season, that was a pretty decent description of Lee.

The funny thing with Mueller is that he was always a .290+ hitter, and Dusty Baker said he'd win a batting title one year.

They've also talked about Kerry Wood and Carlos Zambrano:

"Some pitchers are just made to pitch and never hit and this guy is one of them"

and

"There is one word that can describe the way this pitcher hits... ugly"

By the way, I just bought NHL 06 today :D

I was hoping the Derrek Lee quote would read:

"We need to get this knucklehead manager out of here if we are ever going to improve as a ballclub."

Funny thing is with my version of Lee on MVP that he's hitting .330 in late August, but only has 18 HR and 68 RBIs.

Ramirez on the other hand is competing for the Triple Crown. .352-49-129 with September games still to go.
