Evidently some of the OF grass is being removed; anyone know why?

I went there this morning and they had a Bobcat hauling big sections of sod out and creating a big pile right there by the Harry Carey statue. Some old guy took a number of pieces and loaded them into his van. Not sure who he was, I joked "Looks like you'll need a bigger van!" He just laughed and said yeah. Since he seemed harmless, I waited until the Bobcat guy was away and I grabbed a 2' x 2' piece of sod and loaded in into my trunk and left.

Since Tuesday they have put up green tarps in the temporary fencing, making it much harder to see the progress. But the openings where the trucks go in and out seem to be kept closed unless there's a truck there, so it would be hard to get any bricks since I'm sure they button up everything tight at quitting time.

Kind of O/T, but I don't see why they don't sell the ivy. I'm not talking ripping it down and selling it off piece by piece, but sell little vines that people can take home and grow themselves.

I would totally pay whatever they wanted for my own little Wrigley vine that I could grow.

After all these "improvements" are done, don't you people realize it isn't Wrigley anymore?

Why don't they just tear down the whole park and build a modern facility? Just watching games on TV with the new brick wall in back of home plate: THAT'S NOT WRIGLEY ANYMORE.

Build a new park and keep the old scoreboard and home-plate-entrance sign. No difference from what is happening now.

Well if we want to be literal, Wrigley didn't have bleachers at all when first built, so our Wrigley isn't even the real Wrigley.

BTW, I have a brick from Old Comiskey. I guess I consider it a part of Chicago. (ducks flying tomatos)

Not to ask the impossible or anything, but does anyone know if / where we can get a shot from the rooftops across the street?

I went to one the sponsors' website that was re: rooftop seats and at that website I'm pretty sure that I saw at least on shot from a rooftop.

is everything going to be done this offseason, or just the new seats?

I doubt the building on Clark will go up this offeseason. They haven't broken any ground over there at all.

Handily, there's a lot of bricks knocking about for this at the moment. ;)

It won't be done until 2007 at the earliest.

Good, that still gives them time to change the design. :D

Seriously. I personally think it needs more glass.

For all you guys asking about the bricks.

A friend of mine went down to Wrigley last weekend and took took a look at the contsruction, I guess you could see through at both ends. He asked the workers if he could get a brick, they said they were gonna reuse them, and if they had any extra they were gonna sell them on ebay or something. Anyways, my friend tried convinceing them, but they said there would be supervisors watching so they wouldn't be able to. Somehow though he convinced the workers and they were able to slide him one under the wall or something.

He has pictures of the contruction, so I know he was actually there. And he had a picture of him grabbing something from under a gap in the walls around the construction, but he didnt have oa pic with the brick. So at this point I am still skeptical, but it sounds as though it could be a possibility to get some bricks.

if by "slide him one under the wall", you mean they lifted the thousand pound concrete construction barriers and slid him one, sure, I believe it.

when i looked at the pictures it looked as if those barriers have gaps at two spots in the bottom, likely so a fork lift could place them down and then move. . . so thats actually what i mean by "slide him one under the wall".

Im still not saying i beileve it still, but I could imagine it possible if someone was willing to try hard enough to get the brick to the other side.

EDIT--

http://bc.images.trb.com/media/graphic/2005-10/19858433.jpg You can see some light shining through under those walls. Yea they are thick so you would probably need a pole or something to push it through, but if you really wanted to get that brick to the other side, it could be dones assuming the brick fits underneath that hole.

There was a store in Chicago that sold seats and bricks from Wrigley Field, but their online link isn't working. If I can find their new link I'll post it.

Ok, the link is working, although I think they may be under new ownership. The last time I conversed with the owner, it was my understanding that he was a guy that did lots of work on Wrigley Field. In return, he was given seats and other items from Wrigley. In any case, you can order bricks and seats from Wrigley. Here's the link to buy a brick:

yeah, they're always driving a heavy-duty work pickup around the field with the stadiumseats.com URL written on the outside. They used to have a retail location up the street, actually. it was the former Hispanic grocery up on Sheridan just short of the Sheridan red line stop, but it got knocked over earlier this year in order to put in some really, really expensive condos.

My brother paid $20 to park in their lot one afternoon when he was running late and they gave him two beat-up Wrigley seats.

It was after they were bought out but before they moved.
