if they both keep winning, it'll be a tough thing to do

I think if they both win out, VT will be over Texas. VT plays three more ranked teams (Miami, BC, Virginia) and Texas has to play only Texas Tech. True Texas did beat OSU, which was a big win, but VT is killing everyone they play, including then 15 ranked GT and a WV team that many thought would give them a run for their money (including me). If they are both undefeated at the end of the year IMO VT deserves to be above them.

Of course this may not matter since ND is going to beat USC, leaving Texas and VT as 1 and 2

Hey, how about a VT loss to Virginia and a Big 12 title game loss by Texas with the Irish sneaking into the national title game? That works for me.

That would be great. I was actually talking about this last night. It is very unlikely but if ND wins out, they should have a shot at the NC. They would have beaten UM, USC, Purdue, and Tennessee. One loss to a very good MSU, and that is the only loss, no way they can be denied for the NC game. Of course a loss by VT, Texas, FSU, and Georgia would help alot. I really don't know who will beat VT though, or Texas. ND definetaly has a shot if they win out. Only problem is that ND will more than likely lose at least one more game.

On another note, they do look like they are well on their way to a BCS game. If they can beat either Tennessee or USC, they should win the rest of their games. With 2 losses they should be a lock.

The only reason Tennessee would ever be ranked above Bama is because of the ridiculously stupid pre-season polls. I've watched both teams several times (and I'm not pro or anti SEC, I'm a ND fan), and Alabama is BY FAR a better team at this point. The SEC is down in a big way this year. Tennessee has played no better than a 15-20 team this season. Alabama and Georgia are the only two SEC teams I'd have in the top 10 right now.

I happen to agree that the SEC has been overrated this season thus far. IMO, Alabama and Auburn are going to prove themselves to be the top two teams in the SEC this season...Obviously, only one of them can represent the SEC West at the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. Alabama has looked very, very good this season and they have a balanced attack. Auburn started the season looking very shaky against Georgia Tech, but they would handily beat that team at this point of the year. Replacements for Jason Campell, Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown, and Carlos Rogers from last season are now starting to come into their own. Brandon Cox is starting to gain some needed composure in the pocket at QB, Kenny Irons/Brad Lester who combined for 4 running TD's against Spurrier's team yesterday have stepped up at RB, and David Irons (Kenny's brother) has comeback after missing all of last season due to injury to solidify the hole left at CB when first rounder Carlos Rogers graduated.

Barring key injuries, Alabama and Auburn may both be top 10 teams.

Well if you were looking at schedule strength and quality of victories, then Auburn belonged in the title game last year ahead of both USC and Oklahoma... but things don't work that way. Sans playoff, there's probably going to be controversy once again.

Bama is now 7 in the AP, 10 in the coaches.

I wasn't really referring to the BCS poll. In the AP and Coaches VT is getting closer to Texas each week in amount of votes received. If they both keep winning, VT is eventually going to surpass Texas, especially if they beat Miami. Those polls allow the human thought of schedule strength, quality victories, etc to play a role. As a result it may affect the BCS poll, but not as much as it should. Unfortunately the BCS polls don't use rationality to determine things. If so Auburn would have been in the NC last year, which they deserved. The BCS will be a mess again this year, I think.

EDIT: I hope the BCS will be a mess this year. I worse it gets the more likely it is a more suitable solution will come about.

Hahahah, OU sucks so bad that a guy blew himself up on campus during the game yesterday.

Suicide is hilarious :(

In other news, I knew Penn State would be a Top 25 team, but 16? That's a little overzealous I think

Hey, I'm in that picture!

And again MSU finds itself way behind a team they beat in the polls.

I'm pretty sure that they erase the memories of the pollsters every week to make sure they are only judging their picks based on yesterday's games.

My Huskers continue to be the worst undefeated team in college football. I went to the game Saturday. It was effective, but extremely ugly. Texas Tech will be a major challenge. If we win, there is no reason we shouldn't crack back into the polls.

You're having a nice year there buckaroo try to enjoy it will ya?

Wow, Cal in the top 10 in both polls. UCLA at 16 in the USA Today Poll. :)

Congratulations Raisin. Do you realize if you go undefeated you won't be able to go to the BSC Championship game if Texas and VTech remain unbeaten too? I know it's a long way to go but this no playoff is a joke.

So where are my Gamecocks on that list?

*cough*

Maybe our two teams should meet in the inaugural what ever happened to those teams bowl.

I expect to be winning 8-10 games in 2 years again.

If we go undefeated, we'd have beaten USC. We'd be in the national championship.

But, we'll lose 2 games out of Cal, ASU and USC, I think. Hopefully no more than 2 losses.

same place my Mizzou Tigers are :-\

So I think the only hope we have of having anything worthwhile going on this year is for Nebraska to be undefeated coming into their trip to Mizzou. That and beating Kansas.

Not when you are #16 and they are 2 and 3. History shows this to be true over and over again. I admit you will have a tough time going undefeated but even if you do the system is going to bounce you out.

They've had a touch schedule thus far for sure, Slugger_16. I thought they were strong after the Georgia game, but I'm thinking they just don't have enough horses on the offensive or defensive line this year.

And so is Florida, Michigan, South Florida, Georgia Tech, and maybe a few more. Those are just the ones I noticed right away. That is my biggest complaint with the polls. I doesn't matter how many 1 loss teams there are. It matters what week you got that loss. Losing at the beginning of the season will not hurt you as bad as losing towards that end. I believe that is what screwed Cal out of BCS game last year, but I am not positive on that.
