Most teams that go .500 or better on the road have a great season overall.

Not the '05 Cubs.

You guys have any theories on why we stink up the joint on the northside?

This sounds like a perfect question for Dusty to make another stupid remark.

Fluke?

Hitting

Cubs Away: .269/.326/.438/.763

Cubs Home .273/.327/.449/.776

Opponents Away: .253/.329/.409/.738

Opponents Home .247/.323/.407/.729

Pitching

Home: 93 HR, 281 BB, 636 SO, 7.88 K/9, 1.32 WHIP, 4.07 ERA

Away: 85 HR, 277 BB, 574 SO, 7.80 K/9, 1.37 WHIP, 4.42 ERA

The Cubs hit better at Wrigley - it's a hitter's park, right? However, the Cubs also pitch better at Wrigley, let up fewer runs and runners at Wrigley, and opponents bat worse at Wrigley. Fluke.

That's a myth. Wrigley goes between being a hitter's park and a neutral/pitcher's park year-to-year. It's park factors over the last four years:

Year Park Factor-Runs Park Factor-HRs
2002 .953 1.252
2003 1.061 .975
2004 1.123 1.329
2005 .930 .904

We haven't performed especially well at home compared to the road in recent years. Maybe our players are too busy enjoying the Chicago night life and make it to Wrigley under the weather.

Here's Dusty's rationalization in today's trib

"Baker said the biggest problem facing players is constantly changing their body clocks from night games on the road to day games at home. He said more night games means 'guys get a chance to get more rest'."

He is the master of making excuses......

I have never heard a coach so quick to offer excuses as Dusty. Most coaches/managers have that "don't make excuses, just win" attitude. Dusty makes an excuse for everything. If his players don't overcome his ineptitude his team will struggle.

I had this all lined up and ready to go. You beat me to it. Allow me to add this nugget:

With more night games at home, "You get to do 'life stuff,' like go to the laundry, go to the bank, go to the car wash, go shopping," he said. "Things you don't get a chance to do when you're playing day games. …… You're always conscious here of oversleeping because you can wake up in a panic, especially if it's cloudy and dark outside, and you're like, 'Oh, man.' Or if it gets sunny real early, you're jumping out of bed at 6 o'clock."

I can't even follow half of this. You oversleep sometimes, but get up too early other times, all because of day games? I suppose he blames Steve Stone for the Sun.

Interestingly enough, I work during the day, and still have time to do laundry, go to the bank, wash my car and go shopping. Sometimes I even have to pick up my daughter. Not to mention that I work out four times a week.

Dusty would think that I'm a superhero or something!!

Even if we try to grasp the logic (if it can be found) of Dusty's day game excuse, doesn't our opponent have to show up at the ballpark at the same time we do? I don't get how the club is disadvantaged by day games.

I don't think it's a fluke at all. This team scores runs in bunches and I think it's their inconsistancy that makes them struggle at Wrigley.

I think the fluke is that we are better on the road. We're bad at both, with equally negative run differentials. We could easily be <.500 on the road and dismiss the discussion of being worse at Wrigley.

Agreed. I feel terrible for all of the people with jobs during the day that have to wear dirty clothes, carry uncashed checks, drive dirty cars, and not be able to go shopping.

The real reason the Cubs play poorly at home is the lack of 1800 extra bleacher seats - luckily the Tribune is all over this problem.

Cubs fans don't work during the day. Lee Elia told me so.

It's a good thing the other team doesn't have to play during the day too. I would think that their schedules would be more messed up then the Cubs is. This guy should look in the mirror and see what one of the biggest problems is.

is that a real quote by him? why isn't publicly laughed at by the entire country?

also, i kinda doubt that many professional baseball players go to the laundromat.
