I don't expect McKeon to be back in Florida next year anyway so maybe there is a chance he could stay in Florida. Maybe Burnett can find a manager that is veteran friendly and is always positive about veterans even when they make countless mistakes.

Hmm...who could that be?

Back in April and May there was lots of talk about McKeon possibly being fired, then when they got hot the talk stopped. Is Burnett the only one that has been critical of McKeon and why did talk of his possible dismissal stop?

Good bye Miami, hello New York or Boston.

And hello pile o`money.

Next up Becket. Then in a few years Dontrell.

why new york or boston? i think we have a decent shot with the money we have to spend.

I don't think the Cubs will offer him the money he is looking for. I also think Boston and NY are more in need of starting pitching. Boston first, NY second.

But I also am basing my claim on my own beliefs and hopes and not on anything I've read so I could be way, way, off base here.

I truely hope the Cubs target the pathetic offense and not pitching. They have a number of relatively cheap alternatives they can use for the 5th spot. While the offense is filled with holes.

I have no idea why the Cubs would even consider signing him. He's no more reliable than Wood, and no more accomplished. Would you sign Kerry Wood to a 4 year $50m contract this offseason? I wouldn't, and I sure wouldn't sign Burnett to one either.

i wouldn't compare him to wood just yet. while he's no more accomplished, he's thrown over 200 innings this year and has shown no nagging shoulder or elbow problems since his tjs.

like wood, though, he's a very good pitcher, which is why i'd sign him.

Why not compare him to Wood. They are the same age (AJ is 5 months older). They've each pitched in parts of 7 seasons.

Wood has 1109 IP in 174 starts. He is 70-54 with a 3.67 ERA, 1286 K's, 538 BB, 856 H.

Burnett has 854 IP in 131 starts. He is 49-50 with a 3.73 ERA, 753 K's, 377 BB, 719 H.

AJ missed most of 2003 and a good portion of 2004. He's been on and off disabled lists with many different ailments. Wood has been the more effective pitcher throughout his career using just about any measurement. Both are injury risks, neither is particularly reliable. They are very similar.

In the Tribune article, they reported that Cabrera was suspended for disciplinary reasons. Now there's the person we want lol.

some people are pretty high on milton bradley & being suspended for disciplinary reasons is only one of several negative incidents on his resume. i certainly hope they stay away from guys like these and pursue other options. all the cubs need now is another albert belle type pycho.

Burnett is the kind of pickup that could make a GM look like a genius or an idiot.

He's exactly the type of guy that Boston or NY could fight for. He could be great, he could miss half his starts. A pitching starved team with loads of cash should strongly consider taking the chance on him, especially when they already have a great offense. An offensively challenged team with lots of arms should probably spend their money elsewhere.

I would take an Albert Belle type hitter.

It's not psychos, malcontents or bad clubhouse chemistry that holds down this team, it's lack of productive players. Last offseason was the offseason of "attitude purge", and it turned into a disaster.

Ok that is just plain foolish. Cabrera is a top five baseball player and is under 26. There are few if any position players I would rather have than him. He has been a chior boy since coming up to the bigs at the ripe old age of 19.

Funny thing about the so-called "malcontents", "psychos", "bad attitudes", etc., most of the ones you hear about you never hear former teammates call them a bad teammate. You'll hear media guys, ownership and fans doing the name calling, but I've never heard anyone call Milton Bradley a bad teammate, I don't remember anyone calling Albert Belle a bad teammate, and Gary Sheffield may have been hated by ownership in Milwaukee and San Diego, but I never heard any of his former teammates call him a bad teammate.

It should be interesting watching them battle for him indeed. When does Brown come off the books for the Yanks...not that it matters? I still think Brown would have been a great closer.

This year, I believe.

Correct.
