If you like Wells that let me introduce to you Corey Patterson. Considering who youd have to give up for Wells Id rather hand the position over to Corey.

heres an interesting option....

Jose Guillen

I know he's a HEADCASE but he is a free agent and he did rip up Wrigley Field with the bat in 05

:?: :?: :?: :?:

Guillen is not a free agent. His option was picked up by the Nats during the season. Nor is he a headcase, and I wouldn't mind him at a corner OF spot at all.

not a free agent, but definitely an interest in trade talks, but the nats should stick with church, wilkerson, guillen if they were smart. But we know they arent so id ask.

the reason I suggested Wells was because we really need atleast 2 outfielders.. I am all for Giles and Murton started 4-7 in the Fall League...who is the third of?

Milton Bradley por favor.

add Guillen and Everett and you have a whole oufield in need of anger management

Bradley has loads of talent but lots of baggage. Not sure if the Cubs would have an interest. I do like the idea of lofton for a 1 yr deal...

not real big on Pierre either...I'd be for a Griffey trade but that won't happen either.

Griffey would get hurt, I'd like pierre/lofton

Pierre would be fine if furcal doesn't sign..i just think he is weak defensively, especially his arm. Then again, that might only cost you a few games..

I am entrenched in the Bradley camp. I think we could take on Odalis and him, sign nomar, giles and a set up man and call it an offseason. However there are other options out there such as Jason Michaels. IMO JHJR is a better idea than Lofton or Pierre.

Allright, Poll is done, and we are going to sign Brian Giles, Now lets discuss the terms....

Somebody else can throw up a number, I'm not good at this sort of thing.

3 yr 10M with an option for a 4th at 10M with a 3M buyout

Won't get it done.

I firmly believe Giles will sign a 4 year deal this offseason. And I'd give him one without hesitation.

4 years, $48 million. Bonuses for winning MVP, batting title and ASG appearance.

Structured 14/16/10/8. $6m buyout at the end of the 3rd season and $6m buyout at the end of the 4th.

I'd just go 12/12/12/12.

Which do you think would be more attractive to Giles? I'm thinking the sooner he gets the big money, the better for him.

Also, with players like Zambrano, Prior and maybe others coming into big money in the later years of Giles' contract, structuring it the way USSoccer has suggested might not be a bad idea. It spends big while the Cubs can afford to and while Giles' production is still likely to justify that price. It also makes him easier to trade if that need were to arise in the later years of the contract.

i dunno..spreading it out helps ease the blow of a rapid decline.

I'm all revved up to discuss CF, too. But remember the rules that Goat put forward when he started this thread. One topic at a time. So until we vote on the terms of Giles contract...

Frontloaded contract works for me, makes it easier to resign our young studs in 07 and 08

2007: 14 mil

2008: 10 mil

2009: 9 mil

I think, since we don't know how Giles is going to feel about it, what we should be determining here is the absolute maximum we'd be willing to pay - as in, at what point does his cost outweigh what he brings to this team? I'd say something close to what's already been suggested, but I'd be willing to go a little more. Like, for example, 4/52, with a team or mutual option for a fifth year (what's the harm? If he's not worth it by then, don't exercise it; and it makes the deal sound a little better). What do you guys think? (as a maximum, I mean)
