Murton's playing every day and looking pretty pretty good. Can they put him in RF next year or can Nomar swing over to RF?? At least Nomar can still hit.

As stated in another thread, Williams is looking quite good, especially of late. Pencil him into the rotation.

The pen's gotten beat up a little the past two days, but Ohman, Wuertz, Dempster, Novoa and possibly Van Buren look solid going into next season.

Of course still plenty of bad. Dusty's still manager. Hill's not looking good. Patterson looks awful. Welly & Mitre are still on the team, and the Cubs can't get healthy. Would have liked to have seen what they could have done w/ Nomar and Ramirez in the lineup.

Altogether, get a few of the big names (Wood and Nomar) to stay healthy for a change, and this team can compete for a playoff spot next season.

I kind of picture Dusty as the Unfrozen Caveman Coach when it comes to the bullpen.

shocking that hill wasn't razor-sharp after two weeks plus of sitting on his can.

Maybe the third time will be the charm.

He didn't do well tonight or the night prior.

Welly, too.

Is Wellmeyer still on the roster? Or is he in the Witness Protection Program with Geovany Soto?

Not cool, Dude! Definitely not cool!! (GEICO commercial)

Cavemen, in general, would be offended at such a comment.

I thought Soto was just taking Yosh's job in the clubhouse. Does he even get dressed in uniform before the games? I wouldn't if I were him.

Has he seen any playing time at all?

Why Hendry even called up Soto, Theriot, Hill, McClain, etc. is a complete mystery. He actually thought Dusty would play these guys?

Soto is still waiting for his major league debut. He's going to be waiting a while. Poor guy.

What on earth is the issue with Soto?

The guy would be sitting at home not playing baseball right now if he wasn't on the roster. As it is the Cubs have called him up to act as a backup catcher in case there's an emergency involving Barrett or Blanco. He's just there for insurance. So Soto's sitting around the clubhouse getting used to the big leagues and how everything works around here, and he's getting paid for it. Better than sitting around at home and not getting paid for it, I suggest.

Would it be nice for him to get the odd at-bat? Quite possibly. But it's absolutely unbelievable that some people are trying to have a go at Dusty because he's not playing the third catcher that's only there because the minor league season is over and the Cubs don't want to find themselves in a situation where Barrett or Blanco gets injured and they've only got one catcher, with all the minor league catchers sitting at home.

I understand that he's not going to get much playing time, but not even an at-bat? I know it's difficult with that stud Macias getting most of the pinch hits, but I'm sure Dusty can find Soto an at-bat somewhere.

good point. for instance, rusch's fifth time was the charm. of course by the time rusch had gone 0-4, the cubs' playoff hopes were pretty much over. but, boy, has he turned it on since!

I'd look for Soto to start the next time Maddux takes the mound. With Barrett still out I can't see Baker running Blanco out there every single game.

I don't see people clamoring for Soto. For me it's just curiousity. I've never seen him play. I know what Blanco can do.

When teams bring up extra pitchers late in the season they often bring up an extra catcher to help with bullpens, side sessions etc.

Given that barrett is a pretty good hitter, you'd think people wouldn't mind having a third catcher on the team just to allow barrett to PH

Or would like having him on the team so barrett could ph if the cubs were still in contention
