I'm rooting for the Phillies, as I dislike the Fish (for obvious reasons). The Phils always seem to fade down the stretch. Houston was there last year, and while I don't really dislike them, I'm not rooting for them either.

With the loss tonight, the Phils drop 1.5 back of Houston.

The Phils have always been my 2nd favorite NL team. I hope they can pull it out.

Mods, sorry if there is a thread of this type elsewhere.

And in the American League the Yankees lose to the Devil Rays for the 8th time this season. With the Cleveland win, they move to within 1/2 game of the lead. Oakland is also ahead and should they win, they also close to 1/2 game.

I think it would be cool if Washington won, and Cleveland since an AL Central team has never won the WC.

I don't know that I want to see the Nats in the playoffs. Selig would take some sort of credit for moving the team and them turning it around in just one season, which would make me ill. And as for the Indians, that would be all right, or the Twins. Just as long as the White Sox fizzle in the first round and the Yankees don't get in at all, I'm happy.

I'd like to see the A's win the WC because they'd completely trounce the White Sox in the first round and I've always wanted to see them get far in the playoffs to disprove the lives of Joe Morgan.

I'd like to see the A's in the play-offs period. As for disproving Joe Morgan, anything they do he'll be able to explain away somehow....

I'm gonna have to root for the Phillies to get, I guess. I can't stand the Astros, not much a fan of the fish, and the Mets...bleh. I could live with the Nats getting it as well.

I think I'll be pulling for the Braves once the playoffs begin.

Another reason to root against the Astros (if you needed one). The Astros winning the Wild Card would allow St. Louis to play San Diego, currently under .500, in the first round

I'm rooting for the Phillies or Nats because I hate the Cardinals and don't want to see them playing the Padres in the NLDS. What is the rationale for the wild card and division winners not playing in the NLDS, anyway? I don't agree with a lot of Joe Morgan's opinions, but he's right regarding the NLDS. The wild card should only get one home game instead of two. Thus making it a 2-1-2 series, instead of a 2-2-1 series.

I see great minds think alike!

That's exactly what I want to happen. The Cards should wipe the field with the Padres, and they have a better chance against the Braves or Stros in a 7 game series.

It aint over..5.5 back is this a miracle season??? can we rely on three other teams to collapse????

More like 5. The Mets and Brewers have the exact same record as us.

True, but we don't need them to collapse. If the Cubs play as well as they need to to pass Houston, Florida, and Philidelphia, I really doubt either of those teams will come anywhere close to matching it. The problem is, how on earth are the Cubs going to go undefeated for the rest of the season? They can might be able to afford one or two losses, but more than that means they are probably out.

Don't do this to yourselves, guys. By even talking about the possiblity you're setting yourself up for a dissapointment.

We're in another classic Cubs tease. They're showing you just enough to get you believing again, and then when they have your heart again, they'll rip it out and stomp on it.

In fact, it woudln't shock me if they pulled within 2 and had people coming around again, and then went on a collapse.

No, no, no. The Cubs will tie the Astros for the Wild Card and lose in the 15th inning of Game 163.
