I heard Santo say today that "Neifi has had a stellar, stellar season. I haven't seen anyone play a better shortstop. He'll be back next year."

Maybe he accidentally overmedicated himself today? He can't be serious.

Ron rates players with his Die Hard cubbie blue heart. So however he rates a player, just bring it down a 2-3 levels. So for example, if he said a player had a good season, he probably had a below average season. If he had a stellar season, then he probably had an average to good season.

Would Lee be having an insanely ridiculous, superbly great, above-average season then?

Santo is right.

I agree. Perez is not this team's problem. He's one of the pluses.

Is he awesome? Heck no, but he's done his job. The problem with Neifi has been Baker. Neifi is an 8 hole hitter. Not a lead off guy. Not a 2 hitter. 8.8.8.8.8. Baker refused to see it.

Neifi has a solid glove and puts the ball in play. He's pretty much done for the Cubs what he's done his entire career.

.278 / 9 / 47 is way more than any of us would have expected when Nomar went down.

What Neifi wasn't signed to do was start. While he has done admirably compared to his career numbers, he definitely wasn't supposed to have the 3rd highest # of games played (behind only Lee and Burnitz, one ahead of Ramirez).

Yes, Nomar went down, but since his return, Dusty has still managed to get him into 5-6 games a week, usually at Todd Walker's expense (Walker has appeared in 86 games compared to Neifi's 124).

People can debate whether or not Neifi should have started over Cedeno, but Neifi starting over Walker is indisputedly stupid, regardless of who is pitching.

Not true. Neifi has historically been a godawful hitter outside of Coors, not even good enough for a defensive backup, and if that were not the case it would have taken more than a telephone call to acquire his services last August.

nefi is hitting .347 this past month. . . . .wow.

Where were you in June and July? I hate that Neifi's fans are alternately insufferable smartasses or invisible ghosts, depending on whether he's hot or cold.

excuse me?

I didn't make that stat up. I'm not a neifi hater, nor a neifi supporter. Face it, the guy hasn't been that bad this year. We could have done a lot worse than neifi this year.

OK, maybe I jumped on you too hard, but we have had some real wiseass Neifi fans here who always disappear as soon as he gets cold. As for Nefi, he's way above his non-Coors career numbers this year. You have to expect him to regress back to his horrible sub-.600 OPS self, which is why I want nothing to do with him for 2006. Tony Womack 2004 version is a decent analogy.

big dog, I never said anything about next year.

As for outperforming the past, am I to assume you don't want Derek Lee back next year?

Sometimes players play well. Give neifi a little credit for playing well. He could have hit .220 with baker running him out there 9 days a week :D

Where's a mod to stop this insufferable garbage? If you wanna eliminate silly stuff like the Corey (with a K) eliminate crap like this.

Mark, it's cool. He apologized.

Its not that that actually bothers me, its that those who use far less demeaning terms than Frost used for many of the posters eare chastized and then he makes a post that is incredibly insulting on many different levels to many different people given the tone and target of his nonsense.

This kind of stuff is just irritating the hell out of me, that's all.

And for the record, I don't want Neifi to play again this season. He's been pretty darn awful sans April and provides no future potential for this team. Giving Cedeno a chance to prove himself could give you money to save on Rafael Furcal.

But then I guess the league would have the "book" on him, then

Relaxing after work, watching TV. Okay by you?

If you have a problem with a post or poster in the future, I suggest you PM a mod about it. Hard to be everywhere at once.

Give neifi a little credit for playing well.

Why? He hasn't. He hasn't been as bad as some feared, but he's been awful. His presence in the lineup significantly hurt the team's chances. He's not a 2 hitter, he's not an 8 hitter, he's a defensive replacement with no offensive value. As for putting the ball in play, I'd love to have seen 17 more strikeouts instead of his 17 GIDP.

he's just trying to unclog the bases.
