Does anybody know which pole his #23 is going on? Left field with Banks, Santo, and closer to United Center, or Right Field with Williams?

I have no idea, but I'd venture to say it would be on the right field pole to even them out and because he played on the right side of the field. Just a guess, though.

The #23 pennant will definitely go up the right field foul pole. Gary Matthews, Bobby Dernier, and two other former players whose names I don't recall right now will perform the ceremoneous flag raising.

MacPhail got booed??? Why?

Because he's part of the upper management that has not produced a winner.

Yosh got a big cheer!

I hate booing, but I had to laugh at MacPhail getting booed, and then his reaction.

That's right, start a "SANTO!" chant.

I hate booing too. I thought he handled it well. I liked the Santo chant as well.

Too bad they'll never retire Andre's #8.

I can't wait till they have "Sammy Sosa Day" somewhere down the line and #21 flies in right field forever. Wonder where the boos will be on that day.

I'm not saying one way or another if #21 should be retired...but I don't think his # deserves the same respect that Sandberg's does and I would hate to see #21 under #23.

Neifi finally doesn't play and he sneaks in Holla.

Who would you rather have, Hollandsworthless or c-patt?

Why won't it let me type Corey?

I don't see how you can't retire it.

Sammy was the face of this franchise for many years. You said "Cubs", people thought "Sammy Sosa." He and McGwire brought a lot of the fans back after the strike. He was the only reason to come out and watch the pathetic teams of 1999, 2000, and 2002. He is a sure-bet HOF'er, hit 500+ homers for this team, and is one of the best players the Cubs ever had.

Regardless of what you thought of him when he was here or how he left, you can't deny his importance to this organization and what he did for it while he was here.

Patterson.

Great ceremony and great honor bestowed up on Sandberg today and this year.

You will never see that happen.

What, Sammy's number being retired? There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that it will happen. And it should.

he put butts in the seats, thus allowing management to sit on their laurals and take a few years off from trying to field a winning team
